So I'm still having issues with my steam games not working. They still either freeze steam which requires a system restart to even log back in, or they go to the title screen and then close. And it's only steam games. I've tried everything and now I'm just at the point where I'm mad at myself for spending so much money on steam games. I'm trying to remember if anything changed the day they stopped working, because they literally just stopped working one day. When was the last time steam updated? Because I seem to remember steam requiring a restart to update and then when it came back I couldn't play my games.

The addition of achievements to Civ may end up being my undoing. I am systematically hunting down THOSE CHEEVOS, which makes the game even more sustainable for me since it helps me set goals.

I haven't dared to look at them. Took me several months to get off my xbox live achievements addiction. I was quite pleased when the "Rastafari Messiah" achievement popped up though.

Hey quick question. I can gift games across regions (to say china) correct? And would the portal games happen to have Chinese subtitles? I'd check myself but my computer is thousands of miles away.

EDIT: Just tested it. Steam is in Chinese and all the Portal menus are in Chinese. I couldn't test the subtitles because I don't know what Chinese is for "subtitles". :P

I couldn't agree more. For a while I stopped playing those "open ended" types due to my game backlog (A horrible mistake, I can assure you). Having those achievements really focus the time I spend playing Civ 5, going for a specific achievement on a play through. It definitely exposed me to play styles I'd have never tried regularly.
Ugh, strike two with point and click adventure games tonight. In Ben There, Dan That, I'm getting an issue where the text is just speeding by without a chance to read anything. Like, entire conversations within 1/10 of a second.
Makes the game kind of not worth playing.
Are you alt tabbing or clicking outside the game window? That will speed up the text.

There's a cheevo for triggering a mine. Yes.
I still don't know how to play this, and I've sporadically tried since Win 95.
Payday is the midweek deal (5$). DLC has also launched but no discount and no 4 pack option. This makes me a sad panda.
From its feature list:
"Hosting Ability: Invite friends to play in the new DLC maps even if they do not own the DLC themselves"
Nice! I think Magicka did something similar too.

Two of the guys I play with have already picked up the DLC so I will at least get to try out the maps. But the call of sentry guns and grenade launchers may be too strong for me to resist.

Basically every square is surrounded by 8 adjacent squares right?
So say you click a square, and it shows a number. When you see a number in a square, say "3", that means that there are 3 mines in the squares immediately surrounding it. And if it said 8 (unlikely), that means EVERY square around it is a mine.
If a square doesn't have any mines around it, it'll be blank, and all the squares immediately surrounding it will be revealed.
There's a bit of randomness involved (especially at the start), but through clicking around and interpreting out the numbers, you can get a bead on where exactly the mine(s) are. Then you put a flag on each square you think is a mine, and click the ones that aren't mines.
The game ends when you've uncovered every square that doesn't have a mine, and put a flag on every square that does (no more, no less).

Yeah that seems a bit much since the whole game only cost what $20.00 upon release? I'm all for them getting some more money but lets keep it reasonable. I'll probably still get it though cause i like me some Payday.
Why are there iron-sights in the game?
You can look down the sights of the .357 for a slight zoom and increase in accuracy at the expense of your rate of fire. It was a mechanic that was present in Half-Life: Deathmatch, but we've brought it into the singleplayer to help solidify the weapon's role. We've added an option to the main menu to completely disable that functionality, as a result of the feedback we've received from the video.
The .357 and crossbow are the only weapons that you can use the sights on, and they're for decent gameplay reasons. We aren't casualising or consolifying the mod; you don't have regenerating health, there aren't chest-high walls, you won't get strawberry jam on the screen when you're hurt, etc.

Putting flags on the mines is usually optional in most versions of the game, including the Windows one. The win condition is just to uncover all the non-mine spaces.
Also, in the Windows version, if a cell says it has (for example) one mine in an adjacent cell, and you've already marked one adjacent mine, you can click both left and right mouse button together to clear any remaining adjacent cells instead of clicking them one by one. This will blow you up if you messed up on marking the adjacent mines, though, or do nothing if you haven't marked the full number of mines specified in the target cell.

and whoever coded in the question mark block option is the worst person. IT SERVES NO PURPOSE
The ? serves a purpose! There is an occasion where you know 1 of 2 blacks may contain a single mine, you mark both with a ? and can safely click remaining blocks in the surrounding area until a clear minefield has been found.
Also minesweeper on WP7 has achievements that provide Gamerscore.

Many years ago I worked as a security guard at this empty building used for storage. I had my computer up there to keep me company. I would pretty often play Minesweeper or Freecell when I just wanted to zone out for a bit. One of the other guards started getting on my computer and playing Minesweeper, so we eventually had a little competition going to see who could get the best times. Neither of us ever beat my time of 14 seconds for the smallest one. I don't remember the others, but I do remember that one.

The hook for this store is that you can use Gala points, which you get for buying indiegala bundles, to create discounts on games.
For example, Syberia II is in the store and is $8.99. But, if you use 5000 gala points, it becomes $3.99.
Seems like an interesting idea.
