Nice that they have patched the biggest concern I had, hopefully more patches to fix the other niggling issues are forthcoming. Not being able to use Diving Catch with Hail Mary Pass is a severe WTF though, I mean that's one of the only ways that Hail Mary Pass is even remotely usable. I'm also not sure what they mean by "Goal posts aren't displayed during penalty shoot-out" because I don't even know how you would do a penalty shootout in Blood Bowl. Unless it's blunderbusses at 20 paces?
Also yeah, only showing the block animation when the armor is broken? That's a fantastic change right there.
I imagine a penalty shootout in Blood Bowl to be the equivalent of the playing card game, War. You basically just keep rolling dice until the other side is dead.
So I'm trying something a bit different (or not?) with my Empire team. I took 4 catchers, 4 blitzers, 2 throwers, and the Ogre as my main group. The idea is to get all the catchers leveled up and take Block on them. Then I've got 4 super mobile recievers who are almost impossible to knock down, and it's almost like my team has 8 blitzers, even if the catchers aren't great on offensive blocks, and they get pushed/moved a bunch, they're incredibly sticky and very good offensive threats. They make good defenders too because they have huge move, can run through tackle zones, and are very hard to knock down.
I'm on the X1, so this might be a different story than on PC, but looking through the options I don't see a choice for an online "open league" or whatever, where I can just get a quick random matchup with another player who is also online. Am I just missing where that feature is located, or did they really leave it out? Thanks.
As someone who had a 50+ game human team that ran with 4 Catchers for a good long while I think you are making a mistake. Admittedly that was under LRB6 so my Catchers only had AV7 so much more fragile but I still think you will have serious issues.
The problem is the Human team can't carry the Catchers starting out. With an 11 man roster you will hve to be putting either your Blitzers or Throwers on the Line of Scrimmage on defence. The last place you want your Blitzers is on the LOS - they need to be free like the wind to act as threats - not knocked over onto their arses by superiour bashers. I fear your starting catchers will get blocked into the KO/injury box leaving you with a big number disadvantage and starting humans are precarious enough as it is that they can't afford to lose the numbers game.
To run with 4 Catchers you need a deep roster to be able to hide the non-defensively speced ones on the Bench when kicking. I went with 2 offence, 2 defence with Block on the offence and Wrestle on the Defenders (Wrestle, Dauntelss, Strip-Ball on a MV 8 piece is stuff of nightmares for defensive coaches especially when combined with Guard on MV7 pieces).
I named my Lizardman team Jem'Hadar since the Saurus and Krox look like them (being reptilian humanoids).
I'm going to name my High Elf team Vulcan.

I'd say that's a pretty timely patch, hopefully they'll keep on trucking. This version of the game looks and plays (imo) much better, I just want all the teams!
I have this for PC and PS4 - anyone else on the playstation? I picked it up to play with a buddy of mine (then immediately got bummed realizing I won't have the Lizardmen or Wood Elves...). I'd like to get some other people together for a fun ps4 league or something, to show my friends the ropes (aka we kill their guys hah).
I've got it on the PS4. Feel free to send me a friend request.
Do note that I am from Europe, so the weekends might be best for coping with the time difference.
I haven't played it too much (currently a bit distracted by Destiny and Lego Dimensions) but I am familiar with Blood Bowl from the styrofoam days
Ooh if I remember right it was Second Edition that came with the styrofoam pitch (my friend's older brother had it). There, uh, MAY have been a rule change here and there (I would be utterly shocked if you played it back in 1st or 2nd edition and never touched it again, of course).
Made a Chaos team, entered an Old World league vs. the AI, and I got matched against Chaos...
Result: 1 lineman with STR 2
Then I entered the second match, Chaos again, with exactly the same colours as my team... at least I managed a long pass with my Beastman to a Chaos Warrior, and a level up for another Beastman... my team is again 1000 points
PSN (PS4-Europe): Carolus-Billius

how satisfying is a win with a fresh Chaos team against Dwarves who already have 2 skills?
so satisfying.
less satisfying: having your pass intercepted by an AGI 1 marked Saurus
That is even worse than what happened in my third match (Chaos vs. Chaos again):
- pitch invasion resulted in 2 players being stunned : 2 of my Chaos Warriors
- The first two opposing blocks of my opponent resulted in 2 more stunned Chaos Warriors...
- And then they KO'd a Beastman

Well, interceptions always succeed on a 6, and the roll is done with a -2 modifier, so you'd need agility 4 and to be unmarked to even do it on a 5. So that AGI 1 Saurus in eight tackle zones has the same chance of intercepting as basically anything else on his team.

I think this Chaos guy just conceded because he felt bad about all the rats he was killing (MA -1 on my star Gutter Runner which I apo'd into Miss Next game, then killed my Rat Ogre and a Lineman who'd rolled doubles for Guard). Him asking ME to concede so that he didn't kill all my rats and me responding with "Fuck you and fuck Chaos" may possibly have contributed. I wasn't even doing that terribly: it was turn 8, I was up 1-0, receiving next half, and I technically had a shot at a touchdown this turn, though it required landing a 2 red block on the ball carrier with Block, picking up the ball in a potentially bad scatter (and not having one of his guys catch it) and then making a pass or handoff to my GR that was in position to score (though with two GFIs). I would've liked to at least have given that a shot. Nonetheless, the team remains undefeated, at 14-6-0.
Incidentally, that star Gutter Runner has +1 agility, +1 strength, and Horns. As soon as I can actually give him some normal skills (wrestle, strip ball, tackle, thinking about leap) he'll be an absolute terror, until he dies horribly from that Niggling Injury he acquired.
Sacrifice some of your better players to the RNG or dwarf up, take the low road, and drive your opponents before you and hear the lamentations of their women.

depends on your point of view I guess.
easy access to higher lvls just due to silly skills out-of-the-box. add guard/MB/tackle to your liking and you are merely restricted by movement rate while other teams have to take block which Dwarves get for free.
also you will get easy concedes due to fun-leeching but that is just my very own personal opinion.
More like other teams reach close to parity with them, and surpass, depending on how the level ups went both ways.
I mean, think about it, my first level up on nearly everything is guard. Now you can't ever get a two/three die block unless you use a big guy, have extensive guard yourself, or I let you due to positioning. Throw mighty blow next, and now you're constantly stunned if you're lucky. Toss on some Stand Firm and I'm never moving unless I feel like it.
All of this at about the time people are getting block on everything.

the short version: winning with Dwarves does not make you a BB savant.
you start out ahead of the pack for a long, long time.
any skills you gain during that time makes your team stronger while other teams still try to play catch-up.
you also have strength skill access on normal rolls.
I guess it depends on what TV you are talking about. At super high TV they can get mauled by Chaos teams that have Claw and Mighty Blow and naturally higher strength. Then again, very few people really want to go up against a Chaos murder squad at high TV. A determined team of the Elf variety (Dark, High, Wood and even Pro) can cause serious problems if the Dwarf team is actually trying to win and not just break players. Skaven can also make use of their ridiculous speed and potential mutations to cause a lot of issues.
As for fresh teams, Dwarfs are good but I think the Orc, Necromantic, Undead and Norse can bash pretty equally while being more mobile, and the finesse teams can manage a good showing against them, though it's far from guaranteed. Very few fresh rosters are as consistent as the Dwarfs though.
So basically, Dwarfs start strong and remain strong, and are definitely a top tier team roster. They are just super boring because they have so little mobility, are difficult to knock down and have the best armor of any roster once you do manage to knock them down.
I had to concede my previous three matches because they were all Chaos with claws. By turn 5 I had five in the injury box that number would just grow if I kept playing.
So, of the teams currently in, Chaos, because claws.
Players conceding matches loose fan factor and give up 5 SPP for one of their player. They also waste 1 match for their players when ageing is activated in the league. And on your side, you earn a lot of free SPP and gold! The topic of punishment for disconnections is complicated because we can't punish people for having a bad connection. I think people will slowly realize how much they loose by conceding and concede will be scarcer.
I didn't know you lost 5spp on a player, that is fucking rough.
But my current task is to bring one of the most community demanded roster with a brand new visual aspect ribbit.
Responses to that seem to indicate it being Slann? I don't know tabletop BB, so
Well when you concede you do not get an MVP for the match, the other team gets both MVPs, which is what they mean by losing 5 SPP (unless they have changed that rule too, but I don't think so). Slann are really the only possibility that has anything at all to do with frogs, so yeah probably Slann.
As far as team selection goes, the counter to Chaos with claws is really Wood Elves, Skaven, Norse, Amazon and to some extent Pro Elves and Lizardmen. I suppose that Undead and Necromantic can be considered partial counters because of their regen, and Bretonnian might fill that roll to some extent as well with fend and 7AV on the linemen and wrestle on the blockers. I'm not sure that adding more team rosters will change the balance away from bash teams, because the best non-bash counters to Chaos are already available. Admittedly, adding in Amazon at the very least would probably make a lot of Chaos coaches invest in some tackle before claws, which would help out Dwarf and Orc teams to an extent. Claws is one of those skills that I think they have just never gotten the balance right with.

I made a game, it has penguins in it. It's pay what you like on Gumroad.
Currently Ebaying Nothing at all but I might do in the future.
You were guaranteed the win as this is literally impossible to achieve in Blood Bowl.

Okay thats a gem. I like the animations in the cut scenes but not every god damn block.

nice!
it is just not how I want to spend an hour.
private league is a different matter but most pub Dwarf teams? have fun leeching the fun out of somebody else's game.
granted it is mostly due to lacking options in building Dwarf teams but guys who play them mostly knew what they were getting into.
I am not above playing pub Dwarves myself mind you.
