I just wanted to throw out something regarding the next goal (Stripsearch). Since many great webcomics are done in teams, PA being one of them, I hope that the competition will allow for these wonderful artists/writers to apply.
I'm not sure how that would be an advantage/disadvantage. But it's something to consider, I think! Shall we discuss in the forums??
Can't wait to hear official news on this.

What are you even talking about?
Edit: after actually reading the front page, I now know what you are talking about.
Well, not everyone is interested in the same things. I don't really like reality TV, but this sounds particularly fun because A. Penny-Arcade sponsored, B. It'd be fun to see how people make Webcomics, and C. it isn't such a main-stream/popular skill to have*
*Big and popular among its own community, but not widely known outside. It'd be cool to get the attention it deserves.
I also think that there's a lot of untapped talent out there. That could really really use some guidance, and PA could be a great mentor for developing webcomics. I'm so psyched. I can't wait.

But is "America's Next Top Webcomic" really the way to get ANY of those points conveyed?
If your goals are "showcase up-and-coming talent, show off the creative process, and highlight people's unusual skills," forcing creators through dumb hoops and manufacturing drama around them doesn't really seem the way to do it
Well, again, I don't watch reality TV so I don't know much about the manufacturing 'drama' bit. But I don't imagine that's what Ty/Gabe have in mind. Just a feeling though.

I know people that work on some reality shows. Most of them are about 90% manufactured. Whether it be through actors playing "real" people or through clever editing.
Oh, I don't doubt that at all. Big networks are kind of pressured for ratings, and unfortunately "reality" wouldn't really have watchers interested (or they would be too busy living their "real" life).
I guess I don't see this as being the same as a 'manufactured show' since it's not being manipulated by another agenda, that I'm aware... But who knows, we could all be fooled! PA just doesn't really have that reputation... If that were the case, we'd be hearing about it.

so i think we'll be seeing some change around here
a cacophony of laughter at your inadequacy will deafen the earth
whereas we're already blinded by your own inadequacy
