The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
My posture? It had improved but now I might become a slouchster again, and I sleep on a couch now so that probably isn't all that good for me either.
We all have the bad habits. When I finish typing this I'm going to face off with what's left of a bottle of whiskey.
I've come to learn that on the West Coast, people near the city, suburbs and even the crumb bum areas are either into holistics or Fitness Routines or Fussy Shit They Joke About In That Show Portlandia.
What is your healthy habit? What do you do almost reflexively that helps you maintain yourself?
It's not so much a habit as a lifestyle I guess but I almost never drink sodas of any sort. The last time I had one was a few months back when I saw a movie with the wife but the last time before that was 5-6 years ago.
Breakfast: Eggs, toast, half an avocado.
Lunch: Ehhhh I am terrible at lunch - just usually not hungry. Veggies of some kind are important at that point but I snack on veggies through out the day. Celery and carrots are common.
Dinner: Stopped eating out the second I left the Army knowing I wasn't working out as much anymore. Chicken breasts, soups, etc. Standard homeade dinners. Helps the budget too.
Drinks: No alcohol, no soda, coffee once or twice a week in the morning. Homeade sweet tea so I can limit the amount of sugar, I use a little bit but mostly sweeten it with lime and lemon juice. Pure OJ is great way to get goodies in you and it's sweet without the raw cane sugar.
Sodium: I don't buy or make packaged foods anymore because 90% of the shit out there is an entire day of sodium in 2 servings and that can't be good.
I am semi-broken so my physical activity has taken a backseat, although I am forcing myself to get better. Power walking, moving around with the dog a lot, even 30 minutes of fierce pacing in the house with leg lifts to get the blood flowing. I've also started to time myself on the computer - even working on projects. It's amazing how fast time scoots along and sitting for 9 hours straight is just awful, especially with bad posture. Fixing it though!
It's easy to remind yourself to try and be healthy when you break yourself though, that sudden realization that you're old and things won't be getting better sets things in motion. Keep it tight and fit while you can but be happy about it.
Coffee and soda was irritating to break when I was abusing it. That thirst for sugar just kept nagging at me. Still kinda does but then I just cram an apple into my mouth or something.
I bring my own water to movies (3.00 for 20oz of water? lol no) and i'll splurge on a slushy depending on the theater, popcorn with butter. Fat kid in me demands it lol. It isn't even butter i'm sure, oil and salt but.. movies!
And of course when I attend fairs? I am a train wreck at fairs. Deep fried EVERYTHING. Oreos? Snickers? Someones child? Nomnomnom.
I usually hate myself after fairs so thankfully they are kind of a one time a year thing.

I should eat less ice cream.
Either that or just stop eating things that aren't ice cream.
Reckon you can lose weight by eating one ice cream cone for every meal and nothing else?

Popcorn isn't that unhealthy! The majority of the calories is in the oil/butter. And my opinion is as long as you aren't having salt rich meals every meal and drinking plenty of water its fine.
Yeah the popcorn isn't bad, but I know the butter on it and the sugar isn't good. When you're trying to manage a strict diet every "cheat' is a guilty pleasure. Popcorn is also one of those things it's easy to put a lot of it away, I can just munch on it totally forgetting what I am doing lol.
OH and one thing I did to help break my terrible eating habits? Not eating at the computer. That helped soooooooo much.
I walk to and from work in every weather, if I'm quick it takes about 35 minutes. I try and eat right but it also goes to hell a little bit over the weekend if I'm not careful. I never drink during the week. I do no proper regular exercise at the moment, hopefully when I go back to college. I should start running in the evenings again. I would say I'll start today but I'm going out boozing for the next 3 days. oh well
We did a survey on heart health at work a couple of weeks ago and I'm pretty much category A1 ++ for a heart attack. Like, intellectually I know I have to do something about it but I don't really want to do anything about it. It's a pretty fucking stupid way to be so maybe I'll just go for a walk or something tonight

Also, I never ever skip breakfast if I can avoid it. I turn into the nastiest, most horrible person on earth when I have not had breakfast.

Usually walk to and from work. And get maybe another twenty minutes walking time at lunchtime.
I've also recently added an afternoon snack of dried dates which is good.
And I try and climb twice a week and do some other chin ups and junk during the week.
I find the secret to not drinking during the week is don't keep beer in the fridge until like two hours before you want to drink it.

Man, that is the truth.
There is a nice beer in my fridge and it is calling my name.
Not gonna drink it though! Gonna go to hot yoga!

Otherwise I rarely if ever drink soft drinks.

It was just torture
