Denis Leary stole his jokes from Bill Hicks, not Joe Rogan

I like Dane Cook for one simple reason: He makes me laugh. It's not really because his jokes are top-notch or really creative or twisted, but rather because he talks alot about things that are just funny in real-life, and don't need much of a twist or a punchline to be funny (like lying, and car accidents, and such). As such, I laugh at them when I hear them, and therefore I like listening to his comedy, because anything that makes me laugh makes me happier, and is therefore good in my book.

I also like George Carlin (old George... new George is still good, and I laugh, but the shows lately seem to end with me feeling down, rather than laughing and smiling... old George is beyond awesome, though... "Hippy Dippy weatherman" FTW).

Also Brian Regan. He's awesome! Probably one of my first favorite comedians.

My guilty pleasure is Robin Williams. Yeah, he's psychotic, and can occasionally can be irritating, but he can also be surprisingly poignant, and he makes me laugh more than he doesn't.

I also liked Jeni. Hence this thread's existance.

If I were a comedian and Mencia was stealing jokes from me, I don't think I'd accuse him of stealing my material because that would mean my material sucks ass too.

I know what he's trying to do, and I appreciate it for what it is, which is why I still watch it. But I don't watch current George if I'm looking to just lift my spirits, which is what I meant.

he steals material from Louis CK.

That is not really true. You really think Louis CK was the first guy on earth to joke about itchy assholes and funny names for children? Steve Martin used to do similar bits.

    Tourgasm was stupid though.

There is a difference between similar bits and outright theft.

Dane Cook has been accused of this. Comics don't just go throwing that shit around, it is a VERY serious accusation.

Don't give me that "seriousness of the charge" bullshit without looking into the basis of that charge. From what I have gathered, Dane Cook has done very different jokes about similar subject matter to Louis CK. If that's theft or plagiarism than were all fucked.

CK, though funny, is kind of a cunt too. He's a pretty angry dude. Bitches about a lot of people.
    Drano wrote: »
the thing is... hes got good delivery.... but he delivers every joke the exact same way.
i used to like him to, until i saw what a prick he was on Tourgasm, then came the shitty movies...
and the fact that his jokes arent even his just seals the deal for me.

Movie(s)? His role in waiting was pretty funny and very small and then you have one other movie. When is the last time a currently successful comedian has been good in a movie anyway?

Yeah Tourgasm was stupid and that was partly because of the hacks that were on tour with him. Those guys stunk. But you know what? CK's show didn't do so well either.

Finally, only two comics that I know of have accused him of stealing material. CK and Joe Rogan. CK's assertions really are reaching if you ask me and Rogan accuses everyone more successful than him of stealing his jokes. He accused Denis Leary of the same thing at the height of his popularity.

    http://www.dead-frog.com/archives/2007/01/steal_this_joke_louis_ck_dane_cook_steve_martin.php

actually in the interview i read aobut CK defends cook saying it was all blown out of proportion. maybe trying to stifle his tongue for his careers sake.
then he remembers how cook would bully other comedians that had acts remotely similar to his own. thats when he calls him a cunt. which while true, was probably tongue in cheek.

plus, it doesnt matter to me how cks show did. i thought it was funny.
where as tourgasm just revealed to the world what a festering vagina dane cook is in real life.

either way, i watch too much HBO

when I played those clips my room mate immediately screamed out that CK was ripping off Dane Cook without realizing CK's was recorded first.
Then 2 other very similar jokes followed from the exact same comedian.
and these are just whats on record.

Often times, when we are faced with a sudden and tragic loss, there is a natural curiosity – a need to know what exactly happened.

The family of Richard Jeni would like to put to rest any assumptions as to the cause of Richard’s death. Despite the fact that the coroner’s office has publicly stated that a suicide ruling will take two weeks, pending the results of an autopsy, Richard Jeni did take his own life.

Rumors have been circulating as to the cause of his death and have included speculation of Richard being depressed over the state of his career or a physical ailment. His career was not even addressed by his specialists when they were trying to diagnose Richard’s illness. In fact, he had just enjoyed one of his most financially rewarding years to date. He was consistently creating new material for his busy touring schedule, and during the last week of his life, he had meetings scheduled with Chris Albrecht, Chairman and CEO of HBO, to discuss future projects following his last HBO special. In actuality, the past few years had been more prolific than ever. As his agents can attest, prior to his illness, Richard only missed one engagement in over twenty years, and that was due to weather.

The truth is: earlier this year Richard Jeni was diagnosed with severe clinical depression coupled with bouts of psychotic paranoia. One only needs to have a family member or friend with a mental illness to understand that there is nothing rational, predictable, or fair about these diseases. Mental illness is as serious as any physical affliction and can be just as devastating.

He was not down or blue, he was ill. If you knew Richard, you could understand, this was as much a shock to those close to him, as it is to his fans and colleagues. Perhaps Richard’s passing will encourage people to have sympathy, compassion and understanding for those who are afflicted with mental illness. As we are all trying to make sense of this, take time to remember the joy and laughter Richard brought to the countless people he touched during his much too short life.
