Valk has severely lowered damage...but his damage was always absurd so severely lowering it isn't an issue. He seems to have much better mixup now...and his mixup already was his strong point so it's gonna be super hard to get out of his pressure once you're in.
He only really was top tier in EX, in CT he was meh, in CS2 B, in CS1 something like A-, people initially thought he was top tier in CS1 due to things like double bellial edge combos and then people started using Bang and Litchi lol.
It's not really an infinite as much as an infinite-hitstun blockstring, it seems as something you just block until you get enough meter to counter assault out of. The most damage it did was a measly 2k, Azunyan can get much more than that off of a confirmed JA.
as for the new characters: people have absolutely no idea what to do against amane so they're getting straight murdered by drill chip, azrael is doing work just because people aren't accustomed to his slayer-style teleport dash, and bullet players need to figure out ways to get in on people
I am having a great time playing amane but what you do against him is pretty obvious. Get in his face and rush his shit down. If you are in his face he can't set up ground drills, he can't use his C attacks, and he can't really use his drive (too long of a start up, generally). You will notice that good Amane players spend a lot of meter on his CA just to create breathing room. Or on his start up invuln distortion drive, but either way Amane is looking as spending 50 meter to have a solid answer to pressure. Also, his drills are only okay at level 1, but really scary at level 3. People will eventually learn to respect level 3 Amane more.

Super fun character though!
I saw someone go OD instantly as the match begun so as to benefit from lvl 3 drills right away. Would you say that's an applicable strategy to start strong?
It's a roll of the dice. You get your drill to level 3, sure. But maybe you eat a combo from the enemy and get corner carried and then have to survive in the corner without a burst while your drill loses heat.
Or you know, you catch them with a combo and then get them in the corner and chip away half their life with drills.
It's a fun start but it can be a bit all or nothing.

It's like they feel they have a rep to protect. like the non anime fighting communities will see them as less than weeaboo animu fighting nerds because "Hey look guys we can shit talk too!"

Dacidbro is a pretty good announcer, Xie too. I've met Xie in person at a super arcade tourney and he's a pretty good organizer too, he had his own megaphone too. xD

I hate you. James is my hero.
I don't hate you.
I didn't say anything bad about him lol. He seemed pretty cool up close too.
I find this dichotomy of "anime" vs "not anime" hilarious when Street Fighter, the game where one of the main villains turned super saiyan 2 (even electricity is there) and which has japanese calligraphy-like brush strokes for shoryuken and stuff, is included in the "not anime" group.
SF has had actual anime made about it even, multiple ones! I just don't get where these people come from when they blast games like BB and then go on back to their kamehameha-lookalike spaming game and pretend they're not being hypocrites while they do so.

And there would be Hima playing Valkenhayn.
or Hima being Hima

In this case, he seems very toned down from Extend, to me. Probably for the best.
Though the game is still early so who knows if when people will discover some crazy stuff.
yeah, he seems like he still has all the stuff that made him good in CSEX
just tweaked to be more in line with the rest of the cast

Lots of whining about it.
"...only mights and maybes."

Not always. I love James Xie on the mic. Him and the other dude who's name I forgot on Arcade Infinity's old channel were my favorite.
Yeah I miss the Arcade Infinity guys. They were pretty class and represented weeaboo anime fighting pretty well. We don't need a Yipes in blazblue.
"...only mights and maybes."

Sorry, had to do stuff.
And as much as regular FTG commentators talk smack about BB, maybe they're justified.
