This feels like it's borrowing pretty heavily from Fanboys. Definitely better to work on developing your own style.
I was actually thinking this myself. Decided To scrap the game comic project, after all It's been done a billion times by better folks that I, so here's the scraps
alrighty enough of that
Instead, Lark here is gonna be the main character of a little lighthearted fantasy/adventure comic
holy shitballs it's really really washed out isn't it
god damn it
I don't know if I should fuck with the curves at this point or just go back and redo it manually

Something wonky is going on with the hairline. Either it need to move forward down the forehead on the top right, or it needs to spike back farther on the opposing temple, maybe?
This study took wa~y too long without relying on opacity brushes. Overall looks less muddy though, so I'd say a success!
im not super photoshop savvy, and maybe im stating something that you are already doing, so if thats the case im sorry. but without playing with opacity, do you use a pallet on the side of your drawing so that the eyedropper can quickly change the value you are using?
if, not, try rendering a gradient strip up in the corner so you can save time finding the value you want to use next.
but like i said, you may already be doing this, and your time issue might be that you are just super fast when manipulating opacity. so...
omg! is that a .50 AK-15?
edit: you know those things arent legal in cally...
I think so: I used an Italian female soldier as a photo reference.
Funny story; turns out if you do a Google search for "female warrior" you will get 1000+ results returned, all of which portray women who look like porn actresses wearing steel string bikinis and carrying huge swords.
Hard pressed on my right. My center is yielding. Impossible to maneuver.
Situation excellent. I am attacking.

Thanks for the reply!
I made that comment because beforehand I would generally lean too heavily on opacity brushes, even for the blocking stages. This time around I spent a lot of time just getting the values as correct as possible with near 100% opacity hard round and soft brushes, with the color picker hot-keyed (I'm not sure if it would be faster to make a gradient on a separate layer or not) and using the eye dropper when needed.
The transitions were handled with opacity brushes after the fact.
To be honest, I'm still not sure what level of opacity on my brushes during the blocking stage is the most effective. Is it better to block and erase at 100%, or allow a little bit of transparency? My next study I think I'll give it a go at around 80%.
This is a first go at using crayons for rendering. I used white to blend, but it takes away from the intensity just enough that I'm going to have to try ironing instead.
In any case...

I love the use of color in the skin and hair tones.
trying to come up with pirate concept for a comic i'm working on putting together.
Here's one of my concept pages. just trying to get the character style i want. some stuff is reminiscent of Flapjack because i was watching it at the time.
and here's the final drawing of the final character concept.
@Tam I agree with Godfather. How'd you get such smooth transitions on his forehead and cheekbone? Smudge, soft brush or some other wizardry? Really nice!
Some real rough gif's, trying to create a logo for my tumblr and maybe to put on some biz cards. Whadya guys think/prefer? I tried to go the pixelart route but haven't quite worked out the crowns perspective. Urgh.

The one on the left looks like the burger king logo if you squint (blue ring with gold inside) and they are both in the same realm (condiments), so I'd avoid it. The crown around the bottle ain't bad, though.

also this
The animated one invotes an inverted trapezoid instead of a circle, and distinguishes somewhat from the BK/HJ's logo.
Having worked in a grocery store with condiments, if the theme you're going for is condimonts I think you could achieve something with more than one encircled by a crown.
I'm not sure if this is the place for music but I'm committing myself to making 2-3 minutes worth of rough material every (week)day for the next week.
Its rocky, riffy stuff
Catching this before it flies under the radar. I really dig these. I'm pretty sure musical arts is just the same around here. You made a follower, good sir. (Also I always approve of Sam and Max.)

Man I really like these, I don't know why.
Maybe it's your use of the digital brush strokes? Whatever it is rock on dude.
It all started when his eyes looked like man-boobs, and only got messier from there...

Video games or fan art?
it was a slow day at work.
no dude it's a SOCOM .50 AR-47 Tactical Compact obviously :P
Oh wow, I really like the values in this!
Some really nice value transitions, and do I detect some occlusion in those darker shadows?
Thanks for the reply!

ive been researching glitch art recently and the way these colors and the textures work together remind me of it

I think it would be hard to get a gif onto a business card.
