Something to remember is that just because two cars have the same PI doesn't mean they're going to be equal. Where you get that PI from is just as important as what the number is.
My totally legitimate SERIOUS BUSINESS driving set up.
Puppies are my co-drivers. Now if I could only attach a wheel to the dog on my lap.
Which one of those is responsible for the mic licking, Cow?
The one on my lap was the one trying to lick my face while racing.
So I just got the Mclaren F1 Gt (R800) car and I feel like no matter what I do tuning wise that thing either handles like a bag of drunken door knobs or a squirrel on crack. Then I hop in the BMW M3 GT2 art car (R800) and that thing handles like a dream. I don't know if it is a matter of me still being a noob but I feel like the Mclaren should handle better than that.
If someone thinks they can tune the Mclaren well, I would love to hear what settings you use.
Yeah, that's just an issue of them being very, very different types of cars. As Deliverator said, PI is rarely a good judge of how a car is going to handle, especially in R classes. Compare my Ascari (generally considered my sanest car) and Knight's BMW M3 GT2, which we both run for our R3 'ring cars. My Ascari tops out around ~220, his BMW tops out ~180, but his car can power through nearly every corner without touching the brakes where my Ascari would kill me if I tried the same thing. That is not to say the F1 can't be tuned into shape (though that car does have more power than sense), but it will always be more of a handful than the BMW.
In other news, good racing last night and it looks like Horizon is going to be going on at least a short break if we can keep getting people wanting to run F4 on Tuesdays. Sorry about the NAT issues meaning that you only got the one race with us when we were well past the "Herp Derp" line, ebo.
That reminds me that, for those just joining us or those coming back, remember to check your NAT and get them Open before Thursday. Forza netcode is still Forza netcode.
Since it is looking like there is a strong possibility that I'm going to be running SBC again (unless Bast shows back up, please show back up Bast), I'll try and get through some rule clarifications and setup notes here.
Thursday will be an Exhibition race on Nurburgring GP Short. Exhibition means points will not be awarded, it's just a "If anything can go wrong, get it out of the way" race. The point system will be posted after Thursday by either Bast or myself.
PI adjustments are still possible, we'll see how things shake out after GP. The main issue is going to be if people feel the AWDs need a bump down or not.
Since many people haven't gotten a chance to run SBC practice in live conditions, you may change your car after the exhibition if you find it isn't what you want, but whatever car you run next week on Road Atlanta will be the car you're in for the series, so choose wisely.
The only paint-job requirement is to please go to my storefront and grab one of the SBC 13 number panes, any of them as they're close enough in style that we can just have people run what they want (unless someone offers a suggestion on which one they want to be official) in the division of their car and slap that on the sides and hood. If you don't have a number yet, there is a list of taken ones in the OP, just pick a free one to claim.
EDIT: Ah, and a note how things are going to be setup. We will be doing qualifiers for grid positions again (since I think it also helps cut down on lap 1 accidents). How that will work is the lobby will be "rebooted" right before the the start of the race if any pre-race-night practice was going on. We will run 3 laps with collisions off (ghost cars) with scoring by best lap times. Grid order will then be set on lobby points, meaning the person with the best (clean) lap time will start in the pole position.
Also, SET DNF RULES: DNF's will be awarded points based on their final position on the results screen as long as the crash occurred during their final lap. If you crash earlier in the race and can still make it to the pits, you will also be awarded points for your final position even if you fall many laps down and have to Quit Race for the consideration of others as long as you are still racing at the end.

So if I can think to put a car together tonight, I might show up tomorrow just to chat and try and stay on the track.
... Actually, it dawns on me that I might need to get enough credits to buy a car and the upgrades first. Heh, woo ... At least that's a slight refresher on 'HOWE I PLEY DIS GAYM!?"
Thanks for the PI / handling clarification. I kind of figured that the Mclaren F1 GT would handle better since it has forza handling rating of "6.5" and even my exige 240 has a rating of "6.0". I'm guessing the exige should really have a handling rating of "11" and the Mclaren should be rated "nah-uh-no-way"
The BMW M3 GT2 car may be salvation, but I feel a bit like I'm cheating when I drive that car or my Radical SR8. I can miss a brake point and take a shitty line and still stay on the track. A have avoided driving cars like these too much just so I don't get used to their super sticky cheat mode.

No, I am not really communist. Yes, it is weird that I use this name.
Lotus anything needs handling rating of "only eclibull could fuck this up."
I did premiere my A-Class (up from F class) Lotus Elan last night. On Maple Valley. Flipped it twice...
Oh and yeah, the Handling/Speed/Acceleration numbers are absolutely meaningless. The spread of them might mean something on the car itself, but it should not be used to judge a car vs. any other car. HP/Weight/Torque will tell you more once you figure out what they mean for the performance.

Well, the F1 GT can probably take corners at a far higher g-force, but with it's vastly increased power/speed, it's going to be putting even higher forces on the tires. I have always wondered where those numbers come from, but they're not good for anything but amusement really.
Also, if you're following the braking lines for R class cars you're probably breaking too much/too early. Forza braking lines don't understand the concept of 600 pounds of downforce on both wings

That's quite alright. The blame should really lay at my feet for not upgrading my router's firmware, but such things can be touchy and I was abiding by the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" idiom.

I have next week off, so I guess I can participate in the first race? I should probably start tuning something up.
I'll also be interested in some open racing on Tuesday.
Since I won't be able to participate in any more races until sometime in mid to late Feb, if you guys would prefer I not race in the first SBC race, that's totally cool.
Oh, and what times are you guys racing at? Is it still 9 EST?

The more the merrier, even if it's just for a race.
Yeah, official start time is still 9pm EST with practice/etc. for anyone who shows up earlier.
Also, SET DNF RULES: a person that DNFs will still get points for the position they finished at (likely last) if the crash occurred during their final lap. If you crash earlier in the race and can still make it to the pits, you will also be awarded points for your position even if you fall many laps down and have to Quit Race for the consideration of others as long as you are still racing at the end.
I think you need to simplify this to "all DNF's will be awarded points based on their final position on the results screen." Yours reads like you can crash out and still keep your pre-crash position in the standings.
Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

Mmm, sorry guys, I'm out.
Sat down and played long enough to realize I'm way out of practice, chose a car that would require more finesse than I cared to devote, and more tuning that I cared to afford.
Enjoy to those involved. Forza 5, I will come for thee.

Boo! Commie's racing and he's only had an xbox for a week.

DERP Ignore what I said about the Mclaren F1 GT earlier. Somehow I forgot to put goddamn race tires on the 600+ hp monster. So after I threw some race rubber on it and detuned the engine back into the R3 range it handled pretty fine.
Alrighty, well I shall see you guys tomorrow because I am not afraid of getting my ass kicked like @ArcticLancer. I'll have fun no matter what.
Edit: So take what I said about the Mclaren and apply it to the Australian v8 supercars. I'm not sure I see the point of gears 1-3 because unless I'm doing 1/4 throttle its just bouncing off the rev limiter and spinning the wheels.

*rolls eyes*
We'll see when I'm done work today. Maybe I should buy an R32 instead, because at least it won't be as sideways as the S13 and risk hitting some other people. I just did not want to devote the time to making the S13 go around corners instead of through them.
@ArcticLancer I realized I have way too damn many credits for how much I play Forza, so if you want me to gift you a car or something let me know. The Carlton vinyl apparently is popular with the kids.
Also, I've got an M5 ready for tonight. So don't pass the Trolluminati on the outside, because the ass gets a little loose sometimes. I've never gotten so many drift scores before outside of Horizon.

It's okay. Remember that Forza 4 hands you credits like cheap halloween candy. I actually have a decent garage at the moment because an old friend gifted me some of our favourite cars. Obviously, none of them fit into this series is all.
Sticking with Nissan will be fine. I unlocked free upgrades already, so it's just the purchase price, which is no biggie at all.
I don't know about you guys but I've been getting better lap times in my M3 than I have with my Cosworth.
It seems to largely depend on the track. The Lancia at least dominates on GP but is less competitive on some of the other courses. It's hard for me to make the call, since I'm running it, but we'll have to see how things shake out. If the top of the board on GP is completely AWD, it will have to come down a little, but it's hard to find a sweet spot that doesn't kill them on Road Atlanta and the like.

The Lancia's got no nut above 120. Commie's M3 was pulling away easily in 5th gear down GP's front straight.
Speaking of Commie, did you get anything useful out of the car I sent you?

I havent had much of a desire to play Forza the last few weeks so thank you to Eclibull for organizing SBC while I've been away. I had originally envisioned this season of SBC having qualifications prior to the races again but now I'm kind of like fuck it, just put it on random grid order.
