Yea, but that doesn't mean that dota 1 is perfect and every element from dota 1 needs to be preserved here. The engine now is a million times better and techies should be able to be better implemented.

In fact, Dota 2 doesn't even preserve every elements of dota 1. There's a lot of quirks that have been fixed (Batrider being immune to some spells while flying, Luna completely breaking apart with some orbs) and some design elements that Icefrog thought weren't significant enough to bring in the sequel (the creeps being awake at night is a significant one that pro players actually questioned Icefrog about).

changing minor mechanics such as orb priorities != removing a hero because zomg he blew me up

since that was what we were talking about?

Shameful pursuits and utterly stupid opinions

Those aren't "changing quirks" so much as "fixing bugs that can't be fixed in original dota because WC3 engine"

basically techies will be in the game so page still makes bad posts

You know, I have now had three games in a row with pretty good teammates who communicate and are like. Generally competent.

Not sure if I'm lucky or if I got kicked up a notch in matchmaking. Probably the former.

Opinion time: I don't like mines in general when it comes to video games, more so in shooters and ARTS and games where you control one main hero instead of an army. They just feel too detached, like I'm not even responsible for whatever they kill: woo, someone ventured somewhere where I put a mine sometime ago, and now they are dead.

Techies would be funnier if you had to set off all his mines manually, and not just his ult mine. Would be too hard to use though.

Alternately just replace him with HoN's Bombardier. He was a fun guy.

............we're through the looking glass here people.........

Anyway, Clockwerk is awesome right now. If only because no one realizes what kind of damage he puts out with that Q, eventually he'll make it back into a pro rotation and the jig will be up, but it's so much going against bruisers with him. And he straight stomps on a carry if you can isolate em.

Customizable wards are awesome. No, not for the direct benefit of having spiffy looking wards, but because there are people out there who will spend their money on this stuff - the compulsive people who "gotta catch 'em all!" So, when people buy them, they are going to want to show off their sexy bling. The only way to do that is to actually place wards!

Though I suppose they could just buy one and plop it just outside the well... :?

I'll admit, I am a courier nut. I've spent probably 30 bucks since Diretide released getting my Baby Roshan and Diretide keys to trade for seraphic eggs and unusual essences (I didn't want to actually play Diretide).

So yeah, I am one of their target customers with this stuff. I'll probably end up with some custom wards.

I probably would be, too, but I'm trying to reel it in a bit. I've spent $300 on LoL and probably twice that on HoN. I've promised myself I will not spend a dime on Dota 2 (even though I'd much rather show my support for it than the other two), but we'll see how long I can maintain this not-so-stoic resolve.

I spent probably 100 bucks on LoL, almost exclusively on champions.

I'll end up spending a lot more than that on Dota 2 over the it's lifetime, I'm sure.

While the Eye of Sauron would be awesome, it would probably get Valve sued. Though if Valve was ever going to do cross promotion, that would be a good one.

LOTR eyeball ward would require a LOTR character, since thats what all the wards are themed after.

What they need is a Wisp ward.

Oh Jakiro and Huskar, how I love to stomp pubs with you.

If I solo queue these days, I almost insta-lock Huskar and go mid because I find more and more I can win games at my skill level by myself that way.

I caused this poor Viper to rage quit the other day. He was doing okay until I got Life Break, then every time he showed up in lane I just jumped up and killed him almost instantly...jump, huck, huck, dead, activate regen to run away from the tower laughing.

I was 4/0 when he finally rage quit and I proceeded to steam roll the rest of his team.

One of my favorite lane combos is Riki/CM. Riki invis. + Frostbite eats pubbies who aren't paying attention.

A really fun combo is to take omni along in lane with Husk. Like the one and only time your Repel will have some early game value. Omni is also a nice lane counter to Husk too.

  • GnomeTankGnomeTank What the what? Portland, OregonRegistered User regular
Huskar is such a level dependent character, I really prefer him mid. The only item you really NEED on Huskar (at least if you're playing the build I use) is Morbid Mask -> HoD. He self-scales so well, I usually just go straight BKB after that. I may make a Satanic super late game.

Armlet is pretty core on Huskar too, isn't it?

So do you not level the spears at all?
