I know I'm the only one, but I really dug the oni characters. It made sense to have some grunts from hell show up, and Drahmin was probably one of the most elaborate character designs they've ever done. I thought stylistically, it was a great choice for integrating more of the bullshit Kung Fu mythology into the games without leaning on the Outworld stuff to pull it off.

Naw, Moloch and Drahmin are awesome. You're very far from the only one to like 'em.

I have to say so far the new characters for MKX look brilliant, in both design and move set. So for the first time since arguably 2-3 (depending on your opinion) MK looks like its setting up a fertile future for new characters

I think opinion in this this thread is that there have been good to great characters from MKs 4-6. It's nice to see some well designed new characters in one game, though, rather than spread across three.
Also, I don't think there is a miss in the MKX bunch right now, compared to some of the horrible and/or bland designs from the post MK3 era (and even MK3 itself).

I don't hate or despise the inclusion of other series, but I, personally, didn't much enjoy the intertwined storyline.

MK6 and up felt like the developers didn't have a passion for what they were creating and in a lot of places seemed to just be going through the motions, trying to get a product on the shelves.
MK9 really felt like it was a work of pure love, by comparison. Like the devs are MK fans themselves and have a personal conviction to see it done right. I hope MKX turns out the same.
I really wish you could cancel digital preorders. I want the discounted Kombat Pack that comes with the Premium Edition, but I already bought the regular one

I can't really agree with that unless you amend it to say "7 and up"
Which would basically mean Armageddon and DC
Deception felt like the biggest, coolest fan-servicey project I've ever seen from a developer
The Konquest mode was so damn fun

You know I mulled over whether to say 7 and up because I did like Deception for what it was. A lot of forgettable characters make their debut in that entry, though. That Order Realm shit puts me right to sleep.

How big was the gap between 4 and Deadly Alliance? Cause I really liked DA's return to the core cast (for the most part), fairly solid story and I loved the style system (and of course the behind the scenes stuff, talking about the various animal styles the used and invented, and of course watching the classic "Cooking with Scorpion").

MK4 was '98, Deadly Alliance was 2002
EDIT: Five years! MK4 was actually '97, I was confusing it for the release date of the console versions

Man, I remember that five year gap feeling like the MK series was dead. At least in time between MK Gold and DA.
MK6 and up felt like the developers didn't have a passion for what they were creating and in a lot of places seemed to just be going through the motions, trying to get a product on the shelves.

It was the first time I felt connected to a character since MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero. It's the reason why I'm so antsy to see Shujinko get injected back into the story. I spent plenty of hours just running around as him trying to unlock everything.

Ya I absolutely loved that game. The single player/story mode was just so satisfying. I was actually kind of surprised that when SF4 came out on the 360 and such they didn't take anything from the MK series when it came to single player offerings.
MK9 was clunky online. I played it for a little bit, and it was fun, but with MK you can actually buy them for the single player and get your moneys worth.
I honestly didn't hate MK4. They were trying out a TON of different things with its release. They maintained roughly the same combo concept the previous games had, and I was actually decent at the game with combos, particularly with Reiko.
It was also the first game with summonable weapons and interactables in the series, and the first with full voice acting for story.
I really enjoyed it at the time, and found it a blast to play. I remember enjoying the endings at the time, or I think I did, and liked the new characters and fatalities that were there. It hit at the right time for me as I think it came out right around summer vacation or something. I know I had at least a week off of school and had friends over during the day playing it. It probably stands out in my mind because my GF at the time liked MK I found out when I got it.
Looking back at it now though, it just looks really bad.
In MK4s defense that's true for almost every PS1 game.
Its generation did not age well.
I agree with this, but rewatching the endings, some things in this game are just hokey bad. Like, it's going for a fairly realistic art style, yet the blood that splashes on screen is so cartoony looking it's comical with the contrast. Some of the endings are just hilariously hokey and lazy as well, along with the leg break animation. Which I remember abusing against the computer ai to get the endings.
I enjoyed it when it came out, like I said, but looking back it looks lazy and bad in more ways than just being a PS1 era game.
So, question: Is the Xbox 360 version of MK9 any good? That's pretty much my only option for playing that or X at the moment, but knowing how the Dpad and such can be, especially in fighting games, I'm wary.
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!

I would say yes, although I used a stick to play it and remember some complaints. The moves are all pretty easy and with a pad in mind. I'd think it'd be fine for a play through unless your picking it up for serious business fights.

If you're worried, I hear the transforming D-pad helps a little if you have one.
Turns out it was just a suit and they finally found the zip.
Well, you see that's the previously unknown third brother.
The original Sub-Zero having been resurrected as Noob Saibot, the second Sub-Zero becoming a cyborg, and the new Sub-Zero taking up the name to honor the previous Sub-Zeroes while seeking vengeance for their deaths/cyborgizations.
Second guess: that's Sub-Zero Sr. The father of the previous Sub-Zeroes, showing up to take the name back and show his fuckup sons how to do some real ice ninjaing.
Is ninjaing a word? I don't think so, but it should be.

I was wondering when the projectile focused characters would show up. Anti air guns makes me think a Noob Saibot angle. Hopefully he has a stance that makes him more close range friendly.
I wonder how well a projectile character can do in a series where fast teleports and armor moves are everywhere. Even in Injustice where projectiles were fairly strong it didn't help much against Batgirl and Scorpion and those kinds of characters are even faster and more vicious in MK.

On the MK9 tournament scene projectile spamming with Kabal and Freddy seemed highly effective.

Sometimes, a character earns the right to become an evil asshole, and that makes it a lot more fun.
Also a Shaolin trailer with no Kai. Hah, suck it Kai, nobody likes you!
That Liu Kang fatality is just...
That X-Ray attack.
Is it wrong that I have an erection?
Nothing wrong about putting a hardened rod into a greased cylinder.
