Yeah btw, sleeping dogs runs fantastic on my gtx 460. I was worried when people where talking about problems on better cards, but I have everything maxed with hd textures running with no hitches.
Yep, Sleeping Dogs is exceptionally well optimized considering how fantastic it looks. The only odd thing is that the max AA setting KILLS my 670s (like 10fps), but dropping that one setting down to "normal" jumps me back up to 90fps.
Admit it, the only reason for this post was to wave around you dual-670s to make all of us question our manhood. Braggart.
I don't understand how it'd even work. I mean, I'd love to play my PC games on my TV, since they're currently both in teh same room, but I'm not gonna get that long of an HDMI cable to run the things to each other. How could Steam work on a TV, unless it came built in? And even then, it'd have to stream info from you pc to the tv, which seems no small feat and would require a lot of bandwidth.
Or am I totally misunderstanding what it is?
I've been waiting for this.

It'll be especially nice to finally be able to read Achievement pop-ups, which are super tiny on my big TV.
I've had my TV as the monitor for my main home PC since 2006, so I understand. Steam definitely does not have a "ten foot interface." The only issues with PC gaming on a TV are tiny menus and occasional problems with wireless kbam.
This is definitely a good thing. Maybe I'll even show up in chat now that I'll be able to read it from the couch.

Hah. It's just unusual because I normally can on most games. And I tried turning down a bunch of other settings and dropping my res, but max AA still drops me to the cusp of single digit frames per second. I'm suspecting it's some weird Nvidia driver thing.
But hey, the game looks great on any setting, really.

I'll have you know that the game doesn't even currently support SLI, so I'm stuck running this thing on a single 670 like sort sort of riffraff plebeian.
But really, my habit of overspending to ridiculous degrees on computer hardware is hardly a point of pride for me. If I did this at a casino or a bar, there's be a 12-step program for me. As it is, I've got the Steam thread.

How does that work out for you? I have a downstairs game room and was thinking about leaving the PC hooked up to the TV for awhile (can't use it as a simple cloned display because my monitor isn't widescreen, TV is). I already need a new mouse, was thinking about just getting a wireless set and kicking back on the couch with my Steam gaming quilt.

Hey. While your here, I thought I should tell you as a fellow adventure game fan, you should really give the Blackwell Series a try.
They are pretty damn good.
I think I have the first one that was gifted to me in the sale. It looks great, and I'm hoping to check it out as soon a I finish off Sleeping Dogs and Darksiders 2z

Alan Wake is a great game in spite of the combat being pretty crappy. No matter how well you time your dodges, the guys that attack twice and can throw will wreck your day. I still think that had they put in less combat sections, less ammo and less super obvious ambushes it would've been a contender for the best survival horror game ever made. Instead it's like they looked at old RE games, decided hey, "we should make combat awkward as all get out, cause people like that."

i feel bad but i also can't stop laughing at this
hahaha, I can't help but laugh. I'm just glad its only the PSU that needs changing. Still a big chunk of my money gone and it means I have to cancel the presents for the kids but alas, priorities. (They're not my kids, the parents are aware of my situation lol)
A contest type thing sort of, but still using the Steamgifts engine.
PM me the strangest dream you've ever had, and you'll receive the url for this private Steamgifts giveaway.
Now, the winner will be chosen at random by the RNG, but that dream will also be posted in the thread because, well, yeah.
It seems like a good idea, so I'll see how it works.
Like all my other contests, you have until Midnight on this coming Saturday. Another thing about the Steamgifts is that it keeps me to a deadline, which is always good.
I'm going to be starting another contest featuring another game that everybody should already own, but I need to think up an awesome entrance metric.
But, in order make things a little less David Lynch and a little more Michael Bay, I will be adding a second contest.
If you would like to enter a private Steamgifts Giveaway for Just Cause 2
Then you need to PM me something that is FUCKAWESOME FUCK YEAH!
Is it possible to give away Steam keys? Like, I have Puzzle Agent and World of Goo from various indie bundles, but I received a key for each from beating The Heist on iphone. I know I can't add them to my account as a giftable item, but am I able to give them away?

It works out great, but it does depend on the size of your TV and how close you are. Ten feet from a 42" probably means going down to 720p, but on a 55" at the same distance 1080p will be fine. If you have to lower the resolution, the screen can feel pretty small. You'll also want to pay attention to which wireless kbam combo you use since some are meant to be used a desk. I have an older set that was good at the time, but isn't perfect. They're fine for Oblivion, but wouldn't be fun for an 80s style platformer. I'm sure the ones now are better. A mouse on a leather couch works fine and a full sized keyboard on the lap feels much more comfortable than using a laptop.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

BEST. NEWS. EVER! Amazing technology this volume slider on videos!
Valve Announces Major Update to Steam Video Player
Innovative new technology deployed across Steam store
August 17, 2012--Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Ricochet) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the launch of Volume Control, a major improvement to video playback in the Steam store.
After two years, and six teams of engineers, Valve has added the ability for gamers to control audio volume of videos within the Steam store. As of today, all video players within the Steam store now have an intuitively-designed slider to let customers adjust their preferred level of audio while watching trailers, teasers, and short films.
“This is literally the most significant development in video playback technology on Steam since we added [Adobe] Flash movies years ago,” said Julius Willmott at Valve. “We finally had to form a special task force to address this long-standing feature, as it clearly wasn’t going to build itself. We’ve play-tested the feature with multiple focus groups and think we’ve finally hit on a winning combination of usability and sleekness.”
In addition to the volume slider, Valve has added subtle yet important gradients to both the video loading bar and the video playback progress bar.

This is fantastic news. For some reason they always play god awful loud on my desktop. Which is annoying when using speakers, but quite painful when using headphones.
