Just got a random text saying I won, legit?

I just got a random text from 716-980-7138 saying I won a gift card from best buy and a tinyurl link. Clicking on the link (on my iphone) takes me to http://bestbuy.myrewardshouse.com after a redirect or two, where it is currently asking for my email address.

My question, is this legit?

I do have a rewards card, I have entered best buy contests in the past which is why I'm not just dismissing this right away.

I have my suspicions that if Best Buy were going to contact you to say you've won something, text messages would not be how they'd do it. Whenever you get a weird text or a confusing phone call, google the phone number. Usually one of the first results will be a listing on 800notes or other similar sites for scam calls or texts. Googling this particular number turns up nothing whatsoever at the moment, but googling "Myrewardshouse" turns up people talking about something similar with Target gift cards that was definitely a scam. So yeah.

Googling any info you get from these sorts of things is a great way to find out if stuff is legit or not, because usually you're not the only one who ran into the scam. Similarly, you should try to post stuff online when you find out about these kinds of things (if you can find the appropriate venue) so other people know to stay away.

If you have to ask, it's a scam.

No. Best Buy makes it difficult for current reward members to get gift cards, they aren't going to randomly text them away.

I figured it was a scam, but I can always use a best buy gift card so I was hoping it was real
