....i have a bucket load of gems waiting on me that i plan on converting the second the server opens and the gem conversion rate drops like a rock.
I'm a little confused; why convert gems when the rate will be at rock bottom? I was expecting [gold/gem] to to be at all-time low at launch, and slowly creep us as more gold becomes available... Am I off?
No, you're right. When the game launches, everyone will just have a copper or two in their name. A year from now, couple of thousand gold.
second off, buy 3 extra character slots, reserve 3 additional character names
third off, wait until America is asleep and then painstakingly make my characters perfect-looking
I will very likely not actually play because I leave on vacation like the day after, but WHATEVER THEY WILL BE BEAUTIFUL AND APPROPRIATELY NAMED
I spend more time than I feel comfortable admitting in the dye portion of character creation
i could never spend that long on it in character creation
because i know that i'm going to spend about 5 minutes every time i get a new dye colour fiddling with the new combinations and possibilities before i realize "oh shit right out in the field" and start attacking the dude hitting me

The first 20 minutes the servers were open for BWE3 the gem to gold conversion was a about 1gold per 100 gem, an hour later it was at 40silver per 100 gem.
And you guys are all nuts, orange krakens is where its at.

I have never stuck with an MMO past about 1/3rd towards max level. I'm terrible at these games (well, I'm terrible at all games but MMOs especially!) And yet now that I have a new laptop I have paid out extra money to get access three days earlier. Perhaps I can use those three days to get my crazed flailing down to minimal levels before the floodgates open I guess?
I should have known that watching youtube videos about this was a terrible idea. And this thread has just got me more hyped! What am I going to do now!?
P.S I would totally join a guild called Spoiler Winky. And I am loving the octopi.
See? "Spoiler Winky" is the perfect name. It's ineffably PA, it doesn't cause weird semantics issues with some people and... it's... well... appealing.

What's up with all the random peeps comin in and tryin to change the guild name? I mean i know i haven't been a part of this the longest but it seems like the kind of thing that's been established long enough to be our identity and shit.
On a positive note, i had a dream that it was here. I was running around as an asura and guild chat was flooding with people so exited about it all they could type was gibberish. And it was AWESOME.

Just to add to the discussion for a second.
I own the candymancers.com domain, but I believe the WAR guild is still using it?
But, if they don't mind, and we want some form of hosting for whatever reason I can arrange that.
That said, I don't really think candymancer fits the game well. It is really a WAR thing.
We're still using the candymancers domain and still have the guild. I didn't know you still owned the domain.
Alright you guys arguing over the damned guild name.
As I understand it, the name is "We are Nice Guys." There is no reason to ever change it to "What a Nice Guild" or anything like that, because the first WANG has been a PA guild name forever.
If you don't like that one, get a document together with some name ideas or some crap and hold a vote. We don't just name guilds based on random shits of whimsy. (Well, we totally do, but we try to make it awesome whimsy that has common ground for hundreds of people.) Find a comic that inspires you to laugh about an aspect of the game, and borrow something from PA for a guild name. (Examples from other games: Kansas City Hotsteppers, The Obsidian Spur, The Six Mouths, The Candymancers, Broodax, etc.)
Then, once you've done all that, realize that "We Are Nice Guys" is a perfectly good guild name and quit thinking that since you stepped into the thread like 30 minutes ago you ought to have a say in the guild name. There's like 12 officers who've been setting up and organizing this for awhile, all operating under the guild name, "We Are Nice Guys." You're stepping on their toes because you're hyped to play the game. Be hyped to play the game. Just realize there's some dudes who were already doing the legwork to organize things for you, and don't be jerks about it.
Edit:
As a reminder for why we all giggle together, this seems like a decent Guild Wars-esque comic:

Well that.. I was trying to be nice about it.
Apparently at gamescom there was some info given out. One piece of it was that endgame isn't 100% complete. People are apparently going 5 year old tantrum over this. It disgusts me that people in normal mmos rushdso hard to max level just to sit there and whine there isn't anything to do. In this game its just downright idiotic. Not only do you not need to be 80 to enjoy it, there are other things to do, and if that's not enough and you want more finished after you maxed in 2 days, come back when its done.you aren't paying a monthly fee. Plus its being compared to the d3 situation. A game where the goal is to level as fast as possible vs one made to give you more to do than you could possibly do in one run to max? K.
-You're not playing to get to level 80 so you can switch to raiding mode or something. Enjoy the game out the gate, it's not supposed to be needlessly padded.
I'm looking forward to getting one character to 80 quickly. A friend in the alpha for over a year has told me great things...

Please keep in mind, I won't be in the PA guild, and it's unlikely my guild will be on FA...but I will add, as a member of a community that's been preparing for this launch for months now, I can fully support this statement.
This blogger is giving away a free copy of GW2 for people that register and follow him. I mentioned this in the GW1 thread. Figured i'd mention it here too. Easy pick up for someone that doesn't have the game yet.

Wvw is finished. What more endgame do you need?
Complete and absolute hearsay anyway. From the information being gotten from a French representative(not even a dev) given to a Portuguese fan and then translated through text into English a lot of shit must have gotten mixed around. On top of that, someone in the closed beta has basically said on reddit that "Yeah it's like 80%-90% done, mostly just polishing."
We first had the guild name discussion when all the classes still weren't revealed.
Just sayin'. . .
This is what I'm trying to say. It is not that everyone shouldn't get to be an active, valued member of the community. They should be, they are, and they will be. (Except YOU. You know who you are.)
It's just that the guild name is usually selected for these communities a couple months ahead of time. When that happened, all the active members got together and picked the name. That train has sailed with the summer wind... or something.
Having an emblem design and vote event is a great thing. That's where Corehealer and the leadership are at. They've got a design they can throw in immediately, but the community can still pool some ideas, vote for an awesome one and participate here, in the stage of the game where we're at. We're just already past the naming part of the community timeline. Core has said he's willing to talk guild name until the last minute. That's mighty generous of him. If people really want to talk it, then get a formal vote together with some good names, run it through Core so he can make sure the vote is done right, and do it fast because the freaking game launches in five days (oh my god five days goooo).
What is this I don't even.

Which is what i figured. Not done does not mean not started. Its just i found the link on Reddit that linked to guru and well I'm sure you can figure out the rest.
I just can't fathom people caring about this. In any other game maybe in this one? I'd take the small % we had in bwes for a month and be happy personally.
It's seems really weird to me than people are already complaining about the lack of content in an MMO that hasn't even launched yet. That seems so odd, especially on the Internet.
Can someone tell me why everyone is super excited for GW2?
Not that I'm trying to take a huge shit over everything.
Whenever anyone asks this question, I always point them to this Amazon review. It sums up most of the major "mmo" nonsense that they totally designed out of the game.
Isn't everything in the game endgame content, considering you get downleveled? >.>
Well there are zones designed just for level 80 with tons of stuff to do.
The big difference is that the activities you do at level 1 and max level are the same things. You get to do big events with hundreds of people at level 1 and also at max.
The game still has endgame armor sets and what not... it just doesn't take "raid scheduling" and that nonsense to accomplish. Also legendary stuff apparently is earned solo through quest chains and stuff.

YES!!! There must be some way to make this happen!
All you need is Wuv, all you need is Wuv.
All you need is Wuv, Wuv, Wuv is all you need.
Seriously it will take me a long time to see most of the rest of the game, judging by what I have seen of WvWvW
I'm off all week yet somehow its just as long.
You picked the wrong week to be off...
