Marvel wants James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy!
After a lengthy search, sources say that Marvel executives now are talking exclusively with Gunn, whose previous credits include the genre films Slither and Super. The studio is said not to have ruled out others in the running — Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man) and Half Nelson helming team Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden were in the mix, according to sources — in case talks with Gunn's reps do not lead to a deal.
Marvel is said to like Gunn's sensibility and his ability to mix comedy elements with action and horror, a quality he shares with The Avengers director Joss Whedon, who, with his exclusive contract with Marvel, is now a major architect of the company's expanding universe.
Marvel declined to comment.
In case any of you haven't seen Super, it's fantastic and you should fix that!

Slither's good too, but you can find the clips on your own. He also wrote the live-action Scooby Doo movies and the Dawn of the Dead remake.
Earlier this week a potential logline leaked for Guardians, but most people think it's fake since a new writer just got hired to do a new draft. Still, here it is:
A U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.
Seems like it's getting a bit close to Green Lantern, but hey it could be good if it's true.
So yeah, I think Gunn is a great choice and now we should all start guessing who Nathan Fillion is going to play.

it seemed like an unhappy movie
gets pretty dark
I can buy Spider-man shirts at the Disney store
thought that the first scooby doo movie was poorly written even as a kid
saw the giant bomb quick look of lollipop chainsaw and thought it was awful and I didn't like the dialogue
Sounds like someone needs to brush up on their cosmic Marvel. But yes that's where he's from. He was first re-introduced in Annihilation: Conquest though back in 2006.
And Marvel seems to know what it's doing in the film department. All in all, seems like good news.
Why I fear the ocean.
And Dawn of the Dead was a decent remake.
This is the extent of my James Gunn knowledge
The first Scooby doo movie was great. It has some issues because a lot of the jokes for older fans were altered or removed by the studio but the lead up to the villian is classic.
Writing quality is subjective obviously but it's not like any other Scooby property at that time gave them anything to work with.
Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne and Linda Cardellini as Velma might be too much for me to handle
So Isaiah Mustafa was tweeting last night about an exciting new role that would be on TV and also result in him being in movies.
He's already shot down Luke Cage and Black Panther, but he could be lying, or maybe he's Blade or something.
Yeah I can see that. I think to truly appreciate it you had to be older.
Spoiler for Scooby doo people! Brave new world!
I mean even as a six year old I was never sure why they needed someone to emphasize that Scooby and Shaggy were cowards and at the same time be completely worthless.
So turning that up to 15 and making him a villian was perfect.
not that it matters, I didn't like Joss Whedon's work at all before Avengers and I loved Avengers
Watch Slither. It's very entertaining. IIRC he directed a Troma film, too.
That's what bothered me about the Scooby Doo film.
They are well cast. Cardellini is fantastic. Steals every scene she's in.
it was fun and self-aware of how Scooby Doo isn't actually all that great enough to be funny
i had fun with the old scooby show as a kid, though not as much fun as a pup named scooby doo
Scooby Doo was pretty goddamn terrible
the only Scooby Doo I ever liked was Mystery Inc, which was also very self-aware
