I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm psyched about this one. The new Harvest Moon game for the DS looks and sounds absolutely sweet.
Features:
-The core Harvest Moon gameplay is intact - raising crops, fishing, interacting with villagers, mining, getting married, festivals, cooking, house expansion, etc.
-Players can capture and raise monsters in lieu of livestock.
-Combat! The storyline involves the hero (default name: Ragna) trying to uncover what's the deal with monster generators located in the caves. Zelda-esque swordplay, magic and hilarity ensue.
-Significant graphical overhaul - characters are now 3d models, and the backgrounds look absolutely beautiful.

While this reviewer sounds easily impressed, the game sounds highly promising... We'll find out sometime in Q2 2007.
Does anyone with the import have any impressions to contribute?

Well, We'll get it when Natsume decides it proper.
"It's totally coming out in April of 2007, you guys!"
"Oh, wait, no. We meant August! LOL, sorry!"
"Did we say August? November."
"JUNE '08!"

Ah well, I've still got a lot to do in Magical Melody. I'm so glad that one turned out as well as it did - it more or less washed away the aftertaste left from Wonderful Life.
Q1 from Rising Star is what I heard. Which means by Q3, I would quess.
I'm so all over this thing tho.
YES.
After seeing those screens, I'm even more excited. It actually looks really good, and it seems to have a general newness about it to keep it from being "just a slightly sharper Harvest Moon(and not in a bad way like Magical Melody...)," but it's still got just enough similarity to keep it connected.
Looks like all you can do is trade items and send screenshots.

You could in HM DS. If the game worked. It was a Super Legendary Field(TM).
I'm really looking forward to Rune Factory. It's not something that I want to see done with every HM game (because Harvest Moon is fun without the violence) but it's great for a spin-off.
I'm also really looking forward to the "Island I Built With You" Harvest Moon game also for the DS but Natsume hasn't even announced that one yet so it will be awhile.
Magical Melody for the GameCube. DO IT!
Friends of Mineral Town for the GBA is equally good.
I'd recommend Friends of Mineral Town on GBA. It's basically the PSX Harvest Moon with better inventory management and more items and things to do.
Edit-assuming you don't have a GBA since you didn't list it...I'd honestly recommend Back To Nature for Playstation.
If you have the urge to get everything in a game though, don't get FoMT because you'll never "finish" it and it will taunt you forever. I know it's taunting me anyway. Stupid Goddess. I'm one fish away from meeting all the requirements to marry her (well besides being on year 5 or whatever) but now I've forgotten the controls to the game. It was never meant to be Goddess. It was never meant to be.......
As for this game, I feel iffy about it deep down inside but I have faith it will be good. Hopefully Natsume won't delay it for 5 months though. It always bugs me when they do that because you know it's not to fix problems or typos. I don't think they even have a reason for their delays.
Yeah but I was wanting her more for bragging purposes. None of the girls in FoMT really appealed to me anyway. I liked Nami from A Wonderful Life but there wasn't really anyone like her in FoMT. You had the nurse, the shop girl, the jailbait, the moron, and the librarian girl. I think that was all of them, besides the Goddess of course. The only ones I could've possibly wanted would've been the nurse or librarian. I couldn't stand the stupid girl on the... chicken farm I think and I never liked Karen. She was the shop girl right? Then there's the jailbait girl and she was the closest to being like Nami but she looked a teensy bit too young, even by Harvest Moon standards.
Rune Factory seems very interesting. I'm wondering how much you can dungeon crawl while neglecting your farm.

Damn kanji. They have a perfectly serviceable alphabet, why do they need those kanji characters too?
In my 3DS: Super Smash Bros, AC New Leaf
Last game completed: Steamworld Dig
Magical Melody is great but you get money REALLY REALLY easily. Still fun tho.
More Friends of Mineral Town on the DS is the best handheld. Yeah, you play a girl and marry the guys this time (finally!) but it fixes a lot of the glitches and errors in Friends of Mineral Town.
Really? Even in the first Spring I had so much money I couldn't even spend it all. The second anything became available I snatched it up; land, houses, tools, furniture... It was pretty nuts.
Kind of gave up on getting through the sixth year, though. It had devolved to a steady routine of the same thing every day for the entire year.

I repeat, I always had more money then purchasable stuff. Always. The game was still twelve flavors of fun, don't get me wrong. The real "game" there is to make all the stuff able to be bought, not getting the money to do it.
Obviously, I spent most of my time making money.
That's quite an interesting question really. The grammar and syntax of japanese is downright stupid-simple compared to most languages. They also have fewer phonetic sounds in their language and fewer ways those can be assembled. The language is really to simple to support modern discourse without falling back on the extra layers of meaning provided by Kanji.
Edit: And in addition to Kanji they actually have two perfectly servicable alphabets. Not that it does any good when the language they are used to represent is so moribund.
