That is about how I feel about it. For what it's worth, a lot of that frustration is deliberate on his part. It's an interesting experiment and I'm really glad I read it but in some ways it's a hard book to write.

Speaking of things that start exciting but don't come to a satisfying conclusion.
Birth numbers. Probably number of births by the look of it. The last two are 番号（ばんごう）the first part is birth 出陳（しゅっちん).
So number of births or it could be initial numbers something like that.
It was so boring. And again I will say no matter how much I love Jennifer Lawrence whose is a gorgeous women she is not Katniss. Katniss isn't a women yet. She is a half starved girl. Should not have hips or a body like that at all.

The main character's situation is quite frustrating but I liked the overall atmosphere of the novel a lot, the central "quest" of the fleet is fascinating and at times riveting. It's my "favorite" Mieville but I'm not even sure what that means. I love/dislike/am annoyed by The Scar. I wish people behaved differently in it. I wish Mieville knew how to write/wanted to write heroic characters. I feel like his experimental approach detracts from his stories.
