Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server.)[HELP!]

edited August 2012 in Help / Advice Forum
I restarted my computer last night and when it finished booting I could not connect to the internet.
After running windows trouble shooter I recieved this error:
Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server.)
I still have internet access in Safe Mode w/ networking. Computer is using wired and running windows 7 64 bit home premium.

List of things done so far:
1. Different ethernet cable.
2. Different port on Modem. (2wire modem/router.)
3. Ipconfig /release,flushdns,renew
4. Hard boot modem.
5. Updated driver software for broadcom netlink gb adapter.
6. Works in safe mode with networking; disabled all non windows processes in MSconfig and still can't log on.
7. No new programs installed aside from Guild Wars 2 in the last 72 hours.
8. McAffe antivirus. Toggled firewall without result.
9. Tried manually setting static ip/dns settings. Tricks windows into thinking there is a problem with the modem instead of a DNS error but can't get online.
10. No proxy set.
11. Ipv4 and v6 protocols set to obtain ip and dns settings automatically.

I can't think of anything else to do so I'm posting this here hoping someone
with more knowledge than me can help.

from an admin command prompt, run

    netsh int ip reset C:\reset.txt

Done from safe mode, restarted into normal windows...no effect. Back in safe mode. Thanks for trying.

... Do you have a router? Your PC is reporting a public IP address, which implies that your computer is not behind a NAT or router. That's bad - the router should be providing DHCP on a 10, 172, or 192 IP address.

Reboot your router. If needed, completely reset it. But it looks like it's in some kind of a public point to point mode, or your PC is in the DMZ.

Router reset to factory settings. No change; works in safe mode but still not in regular windows. -posted from my phone.

Fixed! %$&# you mcafee anti virus. Thank you very much for the assistance.
Running the Mcafee virtual technician solved the problem, i'm guessing a corrupted patch or a bad install. thank you, Athenor, for helping.
