Annoyance about mesmer PVE: most mobs attack so slow that I sometimes don't get any Confusion off at all.
Stay away from Confusion in PvE, almost pointless in the Open world. It is nice to throw on when a big attackj is coming but cannot rely on it for damage vs most Enemy Types. Dungeons are a different matter as they tend to pump out attacks much faster.
Good god! Last night I accidentally found my way into 2 colossal jumping puzzles in Lion's Arch. Weyandt's Revenge and Trolls End. Took me over an hour each without looking anything up. Couldn't use any of the levelled loot I found at the end, but it was totally worth it just for the experience. At the end of Weyandt's Revenge there's also a tier 1 cultural weapons merchant who sells pirate themed level 40 weapons, yellow quality.

So all of the events on Orr are broken on my server due to a guild of botters.
I, as a thief, just went 1v1 against a sword/shield guardian, using all my cooldowns, critting like mad.... and when I died he was still at full health, and I melted. I'm okay with losing but that was stupid levels of strong, the damage he did and resilience he had.

I had my first taste of wubwub last night. Me and an engineer took on a greatsword guardian. I did most of the damage as my thief, and almost killed him when I went down. I thought my buddy would finish him off, but then he pulled off a bullshit full heal and slaughtered both of us. Neither of us were familiar with guardians, so we had no clue what he was doing when he stood still and pulled out a book. Next time I see that happening, I'm immediately going for the interrupt.

I was under the impression from the lore that humans had first taken Ascalon from the Charr, and the Charr took it back before the whole coward king sword plunging, ghost making thing happened.

On the flip side of this, i took my pet tank build to spvp today for fun. I was able to tank both a guardian and the guild lord for like 2 minutes before i realized i couldn't kill the guild lord with him there so i switched to the guardian and made him use his full heal and still brought him down after a few others came, and while downed the other guys kept trying to run but had to reconsider twice as i was killing the guardian while downed. It was pretty hilarious that i had them call in half their team to stop this one ranger from taking their lord.
Is there any place online digitally selling this? (I'm Canadian so I can't from Amazon) I haven't played an MMO in a long time (WoW at the end of Wrath, dabbled in CoH, EvE and recently Star Wars: TOR) and I've heard a lot of good things about this. The no sub fee is tempting too as my interest in MMO comes and goes usually and it'd be nice to be able to hop in and out when I want to.
I thought digital sales were suspended... retail box is the same price anyway.
Yeah just checked. It's "sold out" on their website right now. I'd just go to the store and buy a physical copy. I would have liked to do that if I wasn't so impatient and had to play it early.
Are the bonuses from the Digital Deluxe worth it? A retail copy will end up being 68-ish and the Digital Deluxe is available at Gamestop's Digital downloads for $78.
So Fireheart Rise is 60-70 and the adjoining zone Frostgorge Sound is 70-80. If you enter from Fireheart Rise, guess where you end up? Its not in the level 70 side of the zone.
My mistake. I should have known that I should have entered the zone from Wayfarer Foothills, where I've never been and is only 15-25. Sigh.

A lot of the bonuses are temporary shit that you can find in a Black Lion Chest. I know one of the goodies is a miniature, but their mini-pets are one of the worst ways to handle it that I've seen. It's like going back into 2004 WoW.
The only other thing is an Elite skill, which probably can't be used in sPvP. Honestly, you are better off just buying 20 bucks worth of gems and using that to get some extra bag/bank space and dyes or minis.
Played around with my warrior in sPvP last night, took a rifle and hammer and the trait that gives you a 1sec immobilise when you cripple someone. With throw bolas I had a total of 3 immobilises a knockdown 2 knockbacks and a couple of AoE stuns. Switch to the rifle with sigil of intelligence for the guaranteed crit to hit with kill shot for 6k+ which is great on those glass cannons who are stacking crit chance/damage.
Pretty devastating all in all, finished top of the scoreboard for 90% of the matches and with ~28-29k health (can't remember) I was very difficult to kill.
I think this is the build (going from memory) if anyone wants to give it a go.

For all my cynicism and pessimism, the game did turn out to be pretty great. If I had complaints it's that there's not enough character slots to test all the classes, and everything feels a bit too (Stay with me here) condensed/focused.
What I mean by that, is that everywhere I go in the game world (Besides cities) there is a fight waiting to happen. Sometimes I'd just like to gather some resources for extra xp or for experiment purposes, but there's always monsters around, and usually aggressive ones rather than neutral. I'd like to stop with my party and do whatever (trade, talk, formulate a plan against a really strong monster coming up) but only a few yards away there are monsters and creatures and an event or a heart. The second example is more a nitpick, but still.
Also, I really wish there was a large social place to go to. City of Heroes/Champions had discos, The Prancing Pony in Lotro is usually very full with players (At least on the server I went to). I think guild homes would be helpful. Perhaps even some sort of guild vendetta system (Max Payne 3 has this) where we can mark a guild that we've been facing on another server quite frequently and there can be base assaults, the victor getting money/glory/resources and such.
I still think that AN would steal instruments from Lotro. Steampunk electric guitars.

I like GW story, I've been playing on and off since the game's first release. And unfortunately humans were made the punching bag race for GW2. At least for the first expansion. I have nothing against humanity being in decline and no longer top dog, but unfortunately they don't seem to have a major advantage or unique attribute at the moment. That's unfortunate for everyone.
Do regular enemies ever get interesting? I can't believe I'm saying it but there are two nitpicks that are driving me insane as I try and work out my class problem. One is the fact that if I'm using two weapons (actual weapons, focus/shield/etc... don't bother me) there isn't even a token animation for the second weapon (except for pistols when using abilities). Stupid, I know, but it's like getting a song you hate stuck in your head. However, not much to be done about that and my other major problem is everything is so identical!
Other than the occasional bow/gun or mage-type, which are only different in that they attack from range and sometimes drop a circle to move out of, every fight plays out exactly the same. EXACTLY. I didn't realize how insane that was until a game showed me the difference between the standard (every other MMO) and the statement taking literally (GW2). I thought it might have just been the enemies in the first two tiers but now that I've reached the third it isn't any different. In other games I at least occasionally have to think about the enemies in a pack I'm going to kill, prioritize, and potentially slightly alter how I engage the enemy but that's gone here. The only thing that makes any difference is how many NPCs I'm going to fight in a pack. Doesn't matter if there are healers, casters, archers, whatever, they're inconsequential to the overall fight. Hell, even the question of ranged vs melee is only barely important. Does it get any better near 80?
Your statement is still riddled with hyperbole. The enemies in this game are fairly varied, but anything at your level is going to be cake. It's no worse than WoW or Rift, from my experience.

I actually like the idea of keeping the player scaled to events. Sure, it's fun to blow through mobs, but after a while you feel like you're sort of 'cheated' of content at the lower levels. I use to love re-verse side kicking in City of Heroes for that reason.
Enemies are actually pretty varied, but given that most battes I've been in involve a dozen players and an appropriately ridiculous amount of enemies scaled to that, most of it involves "more aoe for the aoe god".
But if I wander off and fight one or two of them by myself you see a lot of difference (between type anyways, I imagine one wasp isn't that much different from another wasp).
Your statement is still riddled with hyperbole. The enemies in this game are fairly varied, but anything at your level is going to be cake. It's no worse than WoW or Rift, from my experience.
You could always head out and fight enemies over your level.
In fact, you get more exp and have boosted Magic Find when killing an overleveled enemy.
The problem isn't challenge and I didn't mention anything to suggest that. The problem is each fight plays out exactly the same. Occasionally there will be an enemy with a knockback or stun, but they don't mean anything except I may have to sit on my butt for a few seconds if I don't have a break/ranged weapon. In WoW, or LotRO, or whatever, I have to look and see "Oh I have to kill this guy first because he's going to do X which will make the fight a pain", and I just don't have to do that in GW2 at all. Unless it's a rare fight with a veteran, it's simply run in and kill stuff. Doesn't matter if he's a caster, has a stun, can heal, applies poison, are higher or lower level (only affects how many I can fight at once), so on and so forth. If it's a difficult fight I'll still have to dodge and snare, but the actual execution of the fight never changes. See a group, run in, pick something to kill if they're spread apart, switch to AoE if they all collect, move to the next group. I never thought about how I prioritized healers or CC classes in other games, or made allowances for particularly annoying melee, but now that I'm not doing it with GW2 even just into the low 30s it's really sticking out that I'm not doing that.
In WoW, or LotRO, or whatever, I have to look and see "Oh I have to kill this guy first because he's going to do X which will make the fight a pain",
Examples? I could see this for dungeons re: WoW (never played LOTRO myself), but I'm just not seeing your argument re: questing and mobs out in the world.

Been a couple years since I played WoW so I couldn't give exact mob names, but you'd occasionally have a pack with a healer and if you didn't kill the healer first it'd extend the fight out by however long, so you'd want to kill the healer. Or there would be one type of caster who instead of just slinging spells like arrows they'd charge up a high powered spell that would take 5-10 seconds to cast and eat half your health if you didn't interrupt it. And sometimes you'd get synergies where the long duration caster would be put in a patrol with a mob that had a knockdown, making it harder for you to get over and interrupt in time. And again, it's not challenge, it's just the break in monotony.
Anyone else think that the crafting system is kind of fucked up? I'm a Tailor and Artificer as an Elementalist and I'm level 22 with about a 30-35 rating on both which means there's a very good chance that I'll be somewhere between level 30-35 by the time I reach the second tier 75 rating in both of the crafting. By that time, I'll be so far out of the tier one crafting materials, it seems like it will be ridiculously difficult. Jute is so difficult to find and it's pretty expensive on the Trading Post when it's not down for maintenance.
Man, learning how to fight thieves and warriors was pretty easy. I've gone against many guardians, and I still don't know what to do to them, what to dodge. They seem ridiculous and half the time I can't kill them even if I start to get the upper hand, they just run away and somehow regen health faster than I can damage them.
And that Mesmer I fought in that final round of tPvP I just did. Good lord, beat the shit out of me and I couldn't tell what was going on. Fought him 3 times. I can bait and dodge Eviscerates, no problem mist forming hasted thousand blades and hasted dagger storm, I do okay against Backstab/Heartseeker builds. But any Guardian and whatever that Mesmer was, I feel so helpless against.

Cloth seems to always be the limiting factor with tailoring. Make sure you're always discovering, and if you're looking for skill-ups, mentioning to friends that you'll make bags for them in exchange for any cloth they send you can help.
Edit: as for the rare mats, the trading post will help. Bottom tier mats were going for a few copper after a few hours, and the highest I saw were bones selling for 5s each, but even those normalized under 1s eventually. Again, ask friends for help.
Soooo, I got the monthly experience survivor achievement, went oh hey, I didn't realize I was close to that, then right on cue, a dredge used a knockback to blast me off this scaffolding and I fell to my death. It was seriously like 15 seconds after I got the achievement. I thought that was so funny.

Thanks for the reply. It's kind of odd that the cloths are so rare. Hopefully it'll be alleviated a little bit once the trading post opens up.

Ah, like I said that sounds more like a dungeon thing than free-roaming world mobs. Which... doesn't mean it wouldn't be cool for GW2's world mobs to involve more thought, but I don't think "like WoW's do" is particularly valid. Most questing in WoW still involves hitting your button over and over while the mob hits you back, aside from the more innovative quests that don't just involve killing X bears or collecting X bear asses.
The lack of a mob cast bar in GW2 has driven me a bit nuts though. I kept dying on one event boss, getting one-shot, and could not seem to fix it. Between the mass zerg of players on the boss, and the relative size of the boss, and all the various elemental spell animations going off from player abilities, I couldn't see shit. I assume the idea is I'm supposed to watch the boss's animations to be able to avoid his deadly abilities, but in practice... what.

I found that as I approached level 50 in leatherworking it got progresively more difficult to gain levels. I was stuck in the mid 40s for ages. But once you reach that milestone, crafting becomes a breeze again. You can discover more recipes and gain huge amounts of XP from doing so. 50-75 was super easy. 75-100 even more so, as I'd been saving wool and thin leather for quite a while. I slowed down again once I ran out of materials as I reached 125.
I imagine that I'll soon reach 150 with ease after crafting myself a set of Strong Noble Armour.

I actually like the idea of keeping the player scaled to events. Sure, it's fun to blow through mobs, but after a while you feel like you're sort of 'cheated' of content at the lower levels. I use to love re-verse side kicking in City of Heroes for that reason.
But if I wander off and fight one or two of them by myself you see a lot of difference (between type anyways, I imagine one wasp isn't that much different from another wasp).
Am I just fucking up or is this a problem?
This game makes metrosexuals of us all.
