Promoted four classes for the cause yesterday. Oh lordy lordy, how I wish I hadn't. Silver was an agonizing experience. There's a lot of people who'd be a lot better of in bronze games (yet still try to kick your level 1 guy). A Javelin I does not belong on a human vanguard. But since bronze is a ghost town right now... ended up soloing a few bronze games and then hightailing it to gold.
On an unrelated note, not overly optimistic about Op:Alloy. Most people I know just promoted two guys and called it a day.

I never understood people bitching/kicking about bronze.
It's fucking cake. A lvl 1 soldier with a Predator 1 might struggle but he'll probably die of boredom first.
Bronze is where you try out new builds, gets some easy xp for lvl 1-10 and generally dick around. If I'm on the other side of the map (either as a Vorcha or vanguard) and I die on bronze, I don't expect anyone to come get me, and I give the same courteousy to my team mates.
Edit, I only managed to promote 2 this time. Wanted to go for 3, but it's a vanguard and I was having Internet issues (getting dropped on wave 9 and losing all my earned xp) and serious desyncing issues. I'm still one solid silver game from 20. Hopefully my buddy promoted all 6 of his.
I promoted soldier and sentinel, which are the two classes I don't really play very much. I could level them back up but I think I'll just wait on some character cards.
The community goal seemed pretty easy to me to be honest; if we fail it it'll mean the population has really declined
it was the smallest on the list but

Sure is. But with the addition of Platinum, seems no one is playing bronze matches anymore.
Hopefully we will get a XP bonus after this, like the promotion weekends of old, but they don't seem very interested in doing that sort of thing anymore. Has there ever been a reason given for that, or can we just go ahead and speculate?

The two bonus XP weekends were just filler back when the operations were weekly.

I don't like the promote character events and since I was away most of the weekend I figured I'd pass on it. The permanent increase to my N7 ranking for a random chance at a gun I may want just wasn't worth the extra effort of getting access to the game and doing it. :P

I wish they would add a filter to matches where anyone under a certain level isn't brought into the game. I get a little tired of levels 1-5 showing up in Gold lobbies and thinking there is nothing wrong, come on bra. Even worse when one person won't kick them so you have this stupid little game of patience going on.
Speaking of Nova, what's a good strategy for it? I'm about half-way through ME2 with my Vanguard Shep. Once I hit ME3, I'm going to stick with vanguard. I tried the class out in ME3 before, but something felt off to me, so I switched.
Nova's that ground pound move, yes? I assume that, ideally, you want to charge into a group of mooks and then use Nova. But you have to wait for cooldown. Then again, I guess with 200% cooldown, it shouldn't be an issue?
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Nova is one of a few moves in ME3 that has no cooldown. It sucks up your shields instead. At 200% cooldown you can Charge, Nova, and then Charge again immediately.
If you screw up that combo you will die horribly, though, and enemies are often a decent distance away from each other so Nova won't hit more than one or two at a time, typically. On any difficulty below Insanity, though, Charge/Nova non-stop is a very viable combo

i'm not a huge fan of it though because i still like how weapon-centric ME2 vanguard is
that's why i roll kroguard; i get to bring big-ass guns

The slowdown effects ruin my timing whenever I try to Charge/Nova in singleplayer. Rather just shoot with the Graal.

Also be sure to have one of your biotic squad mates throw out something so you can couple in an explosion or two. Area Reave is one of my favorite if you have Kaidan along, or Dark Channel if you have Javik since it jumps around.

It's true, but they did come after the promotion weekends each time. So you never know.
It'd behoove them to do something, even if it were a little thing like bonus xp, just to keep the game in peoples minds with the release of Leviathan tomorrow.
If someone has clever things to put in thread titles, feel free to give them to me.
My biggest problem with 'clever' thread titles is that they're usually not funny after a day or two, and they tend to stay for weeks. At least with informational titles if someone just wants to know what the event is, or a DLC date, they can just see it without having to search through the thread.
Has there been any indication there is a game patch coming with this DLC? I havent heard jack except Bioware crowing about how great the supposed patch is.
Its funny playing as a Destroyer every destoryer seems to use a typhoon main, and pirahna back up. And its really fun. Its one of the few times I've played bronze and felt too overpowered for bronze and needing to play a higher level.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
There was a great technical break down of the gun in a bioware thread last week. Apparently its really buggy. Dont use it with AP ammo. It doesnt gain the benefit of reduced armor damage reduction using it. Warp ammo only.

Apparently the next MP update is suppose to be the biggest one yet. Not sure what that means but we'll see.

I would never use any of the piercing mod or ammo with any of the guns that have innate armor pierce.

That was discussed also. Armor piercing is different from reduction of the armor damage penalty.
All the guns with native armor piercing like the Widow or Javeline can penetrate a certain amount of cover but they take the full armor damage reduction. So on Gold for instance its 50 damage off per bullet.
Armor Penetration mods give both piercing and damage reduction removal. Armor piercing ammo does the same thing on MOST guns, but not on the Typhoon. It gives only further cover penetration. People in the thread theorized this bug was apparently introduced accidentally in the last round of nerfs to it and has greatly contributed to the negative perception of the gun.
Do people really use AP ammo that often? I swear these forums and biowares forums exist at a higher level of play than most people I've ever seen playing the game ever achieve.

The guys in this thread actually used memory extractors to pull out the exact damage numbers of the gun with various mods and against various defenses. It was pretty hardcore.

I'm hoping that by bigger they mean big changes and not just more content. I mean, two relatively small things that other games do that would be big would be the ability to queue a party to join a public match that you're not hosting... or maybe even choose a lobby from a list... or filter a game grouping by maps you don't want to play on... Geth/NOT White/Gold, for instance. :P
but idk... guess we'll find out soon enough.

I really want to see PvP. Horde mode is fun, but I can't flex my epeen properly unless I'm making another persons head explode with a well placed talon shot. Also, when playing a computer, it's as if I'm in a fist fight with my toaster, sure, it can shock me if I use fork or burn me if it gets a good grip on my hand, but it's still a toaster.

I imagine a big part has to do with the Typhoon being, by far, most suited to the Destroyer. There just aren't that many other classes where equipping the Typhoon is going to be an optimal load out.
I should also take this moment to apologize to the Particle Rifle for calling it the UR version of the GPsmg. A week or so I finally got around to equipping it on the Destroyer and it really shines there.
