I finally got a Wacom tablet, Intuos 9x11, and wow is it great!

This is the first thing I really tried to draw with it, I just traced a photo of Jack Sparrow from the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, it was one of the best I had around for detail and such.

Get back to work, tracing won't help you much.

Also, it's not something to show off.

Damn, that's an expensive tablet for your first one.
I've had my Graphire 6x8 for a while now and am very glad I didn't spring for the Intuos. Of course it's a nice tablet, but the Intuos is way more than the average tablet user needs. Unless you're doing professional work, I'd always go with a Graphire... and judging from the fact that the first thing you did with it was trace a picture of Captain Jack Sparrow.... I'm assuming you aren't using it for professional work.

Congrats on getting a tablet though, they're nice to have. It will get to be more fun once it "clicks" on keeping track of your cursor. It's strange using a tablet for the first time.

I do a lot more than this kind of stuff, I just did the tracing basically as a way to get myself used to actually using a tablet. Most of my work is actually drawing and 3D graphics work, the tracing was just a test of how to start drawing with a tablet.

And a big part of why I wound up getting the Intuos was because I have a widescreen monitor and only Intuos are made for those, as well as the fact that I'm going to school for graphic arts stuff, and have a few projects I'm working for personally myself, and I want to have the best I can, and intend on this lasting me for quite a while (OK, terrible grammar there, lots of "and"s, sorry about that.

Ah, yeah... the widescreen thing. I use a normal 19" CRT so that wasn't an issue for me, but I can understand.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean to imply you wouldn't get your money's worth out of it, I just don't see it being a persons first tablet very often. Once you use it for your first piece, post it up, I'd like to see something original done with it.

I found it to be pretty weird using mine at first, but I'm starting to get better at using it finally. I don't use mine as often as I had hoped (kind of stopped drawing a bit after I got mine) but I'm getting back into it now.

This thread should help you DredZed you don't need to trace anymore : P

My first tablet (I just got it 2-3 months ago) is an 4x6 Intuous 3. I had no idea it was aimed for professionals o_O, wacom's online survey just suggested what they thought was best for me (small drawing, traditional art feels, etc.). Are Intuous tablets really meant for large computer screens, because my monitor can only go up to 1024x768...
