What were the three failed projects by Paragon Studios?
They never even made it to the alpha stage, so they never got announced. If you remember back that far, there was a decent amount of dev chatter on the official boards about a "secret project" that made everyone lose their shit over hoping it was CoX2. It wasn't, it was a new IP that never went anywhere because paragon had one of the worst management teams in the world.

It's incredible, really.
Atrocious project management, a laughable database & a ridiculous agreement resulted in one of the best games in it's genre.
And, not so incredibly, so many broken hearts. </3
CoX meant to me, so very often, more about everything not involving clicking on a door, moving through a sewer while pressing 1-8. It was often just about being able to make dumb stuff, and see how it interacted with the world. it's why I loved the Penny Arcadians so much. It was silly to see Phoenix Wright bouncing all over the city yelling OBJECTION! at everything. The fact that no other MMO out there gives you the ability to break the own genre so readily has a lot to do with it. You can make a dude with a cape and cowl, or you can make Inspector Gadget or Mumm-Ra, and still have the guy be a perfectly viable toon within the context of the game.
The only thing that really lets me dick around with the world as much has been the Lego Superhero games. Obviously not in terms of copyright skirting, but more being able to stage silly things like
and like
stuff that is obviously not touched upon in a Lego game made for kids.
My friend and his brothers got this game when it came out, I''d always play on his account with his younger brother. Whenever we were doing an instance and couldnt decide which direction to go, we'd roll the die. We eventually made a supergroup around it, The Dicers, with ranks like Snake Eyes. Those were the days.
Superjumping around Paragon was the most free running fun I've had, even more than doing it in games like Prototype.

I'm currently staying with one of my older brothers, who was (and still is, as much as his adult life and ambitions allow) into comics. He wouldn't have played this game, but I would've loved to sit at character creation with him for hours. I showed him just a couple character screenshots and he was disappointed that I couldn't fire the game up.
There were a few times the little brother from my previous post resubbed just for the character creator. Hed have every server full of level ones that never logged in.

... source code... why has no one expanded this to be an actual game yet? You've got that shit all right there. Loading maps, NPCs, characters, jesus that's like 25% of the game.
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

The rest of the game (combat/powers system, missions, etc. etc.) is entirely reliant on the server, and that source code hasn't been released to the public, to my knowledge.
IIRC there was some progress on emulating the server. Last I checked, however, the furthest they'd gotten was being able to stand around with other players at the spawn point in Outbreak. No chat, no movement; I'm not even sure other people's costumes were loading properly.
Oh, thread! I've missed you! This means I can show off The Thing I Made.
There's a Let's Play goin on in Something Awful about terrible Girl Games, and the idea of Games 4 Girlz in general. I brought up that despite it not being TOTALLY perfect regarding it, CoX was pretty banging about its dealing with Gender Issues.
Because in what other game, could you make something like this
CoH pioneered having more than just binary genders.
I mean. One was "HUGE" but, still.

i was digging through some old boxes today and found a CD with the original CoH beta on there
see if you were invited to the testing and had problems with download/installation, they could send you a physical copy of the client
i wound up getting it in the mail after the game had gone live and i was fairly irritated with that, but i was a younger man back then, filled with brash and immature viewpoints
i set the plastic case containing what i think was just a CD-R up on the shelf as if it contained the ashes of a once living creature

Saint's Row 3/4 comes the closest (in fact, I can do just about all that minus the wings). But you can't flaunt your creation to hundreds/thousands of people at once.
Saints Row IV was the CoH action game I always wanted but never got.
Now, they just need make Saints Row V, amp up the super powers, then cut all the Saints Row stuff out of it and buy the CoV license from NCSoft. Can't be that hard, right?
I'm so hard up for a good superhero MMO. And nothing fits the bill.
I like DCUO and CO, but neither have longer term appeal.
I miss CoH =(
Sad but true. The funny point is even STO offers more then CO in that way. My Gorn Engineer pretends to be a villain, using Orbital Strikes that chase down enemies, throwing 2 minefields around that obliterated groups of enemies plus I have a crew of manics with me that burn down things with flamethrowers and robot cannons, not to mention he can run super fast with some event item.
CoX definitely needs to do more Hydraing.
CoV/CoX has fallen, where are my two new (or possibly 4 new) Superhero MMOs.

BRB, gonna make that my new character.
God, if it had a hero creator though I'd probably be all over it.
Damn was that that a flash from the past. Running through Downtown was almost like running through Steel Canyon.
There's no cure, it just comes up once in a while.
Saints Row 3 and 4 are the closest things to supervillain games that will ever exist
You basically play as a more violent lex luthor but there's no superman to stop you and you get elected president

Head here, read up, and cross your fingers that you might be able to get your fix again sometime soon.
