Nothing is more fun, nay, hilarious, than pub people even suspecting being against a premade team. Just had a case of it, which ended up with us (pubs) carefully coordinating ourselves. My Dragon was providing long range fire (love the UAC5) while providing AMS cover for our Atlas, which they were trying to light up. The rest of the team sticking together, distracting and covering eachother.
Commando time yesterday was hilarious after i threw the biggest XL engine in my commando, i just ran into everything, over and over and over.No regrets.

Yeah, premades only really roll over pubbies who are disorganized. We've had at least six matches in my mind that we were down one or more member due to disconnects that we still won simply because we stayed cool and used what we had most effectively against pubs that simply ran into the waiting jaws of doom. But occasionally we have pub groups that challenge us pretty well, simply by actually forming up and using basic tactics such as focusing fire on a particular target or not standing around waiting for targets to file through a choke point or making sure your assaults have escorts so a Jenner can't just tear them apart from behind.

There are few things I enjoy more than terrorizing the fuck out of enemy lights. Most are so, so bad at running away. Most of the rest are even worse in a circling knife fight, especially with regular lasers. So to reiterate above, if any of our Big Daddies are getting harassed by lights and call out a grid and/or target designation for help in vent, You better believe I'll be on the way.
I'm perfectly okay those rounds where I have a low damage score and one kill, as long as that's because I spent the whole match keeping their lights off our stompiest mechs' backs by chasing the lil' buggers across the map, shooting their back the whole way.
I'm not sure I'll ever seriously go back to driving assaults or heavies after playing scout. Too much fun shit to do as one.
I just wish there was a way to track my Atlas kills. Sitting behind one that is preoccupied by a teammate and peeling off its back armor from full to cored isn't the most exciting thing in the game, but it is satisfying!
There was a game on caustic we lost like five to disconnects and had a few pubbies. So the three of us went the long way around H3 and as their whole team danced with our randoms around the rim of the caldera we capped. Even basic communication can overcome a numerical disadvantage so use it!
And if it is a bad situation you can disengage. Its okay really. So many people think once you make contact you have to fight until one side is dead.

True, I think many people still aren't aware of how durable a mech can be, and think any attempt at running garentees getting killed (like it can be for a lot of FPS), rather than a viable tactic.

Not only are you more durable than you think, and therefore able to survive, but running can really wreak havoc with enemy organization as people succumb to the bloodlust and give chase. It can be relatively easy to bait the enemy into following a damaged mech into a line of reinforcements. Likewise, once you start running doesn't mean you can't stop. Many times I've ducked behind obstructing terrain, killed throttle and turned just in time to deliver an alpha strike to the face. It can be surprisingly effective - but not recommended if your internals are hanging out!

Yeah, running away can be a weirdly, but devastatingly, effective strategy. People key to your fleeing and figure on an easy kill; sure, breaking through back armor is optimally easier than back armor, but it still takes a good bit of damage to get somewhere. In the meantime, they all turn their backs to your team which, with focused fire, is a fatal error. Then you turn back around to use your battered, but still present, front armor, and now the enemy has to get through that again.
It really is neat how back armor can be a useful combat tool, and not just to keep a sneaky Jenner from frying internals in a single alpha strike.

That and, chances are your back armor is still intact after your front armor was deep fried by alpha strikes.
The dragon feels very underpowered in the Boom-Boom and Bang-Bang departments for its size. Think I might just stick with my centurion.
Great little battle last night on Frozen city. Pugging as usual in my cent, I notice our atlas/awesome group heading for the tunnel and our cats heading around the far edge hoping to get the longshots cat pilots dream of. Knowing I'm not gonna serve any purpose in the tunnel behind 3 assaults, I stump along behind the cats to protect while our jenner goes tearing off and our hunchback...sits in the base. Oh well.
Turns out most of their mechs were pouring into the tunnel as well, so what did they send our way? A commando and a hunchie with a cat for fire support. The commando finds our cats and obviously starts thinking he's gonna annoy 'em to death. Then I come around the corner and present my own idea that he should explode instead. He runs right past me trying to clear the next building over and just before he makes it my ac/10 catches up with him and his arm goes flying to land in the snow and smoke. Beautiful sight.
He doesn't come back around and a moment later I get the message about our base under attack. I figure our hunchie is dc'ed and head back to finish off the commando since our cats are now in a duel with theirs and too busy to worry about the cap. Not that I was worried about handling a commando. But as I'm nearing our base, surprise surprise, the hunchie pilot was actually there and guarding! I see the flash of weapons firing and the commando comes running back around the corner right at me. I am ashamed to say I was surprised enough that I only managed to just barely tag him with my lasers before he slammed into me. Does speed make a difference for how likely you are to be knocked down? Anyways, our hunchie pursued as well and the commando blew up before either of us could stand back up.
Unfortunately, the tunnel fight did not go our way. It ended with 2 atlases (one looked pretty rough at least) and a cat coming out and pushing right to our base. Hunchie and I were no match for that. Hell of a battle though. Really loving this game, some of the best MW I've played. Now if they can just get the house affiliation and storyline going right I'll be very happy. Has there been any talk of an actual release date?
The Dragon's a weird mech. Was in TT and still is here. The GIANT CENTER TORSO (SHOOT HERE YO) is a liability. The default mech has a lot of tonnage tied up in the engines, and the armoring was never max for tonnage in TT.
Your best bet as a Dragon pilot is to use the arm mounts to your advantage. You should never, ever be facing your target head on for more than a split second. You cannot go pound for pound with anything above your weight, and even a stock HB will core you quickly if you give him the same profile.
Circle strafe when in space, retreat and torso twist/side aim when constricted.

So the main site lists a few other mechs like the Jager and Stalker. Any word on when the rest of the mechs will be put into the beta? If I was in it I might have seen traces of the Cicada and maybe Raven, but nothing usable yet. I've seen people mentioning NARC as well but not seen. Supposed to be coming soon? I'm not going to have any interest in piloting a light until I can NARC someone and watch the rain come in.
I wonder how the raven will do without all the fancy tech level 2 stuff. I mean, according to sarna, the base model already has FF on top of all the EW stuff

The Raven has a stock XL engine, among other things. Its introduction has the potential to be highly amusing on a lot of levels, I'll say that much.

Looking into the chassis/variant history, looks like the Raven had a limited run before it got upgraded with all that fancy level 2 gear, and I can see at least two variants (the 2X and 4X) that we can run around with before everything needed for a proper 3L Raven is in.

I think he was talking about how are they going to introduce the Raven into the game when about half of what the stock variant has (FF armor, ECM, Beagle Probe) isn't in the beta yet.
...but yes, seeing everyone rage about the XL engine comming standard will be much fun.

I know. The XL engine is just the part I'm looking forward to the most.
Bet you at least half the people who bother with the Raven at all switch out the XL and all of the EW equipment and just try to run it as an ordinary light.
I'm interested to see how the Guardian ECM and such work. ECM could potentially be really fun. Friendly stompies getting pounded by LRM boats? Run in and hide behind their legs and disrupt the lock! Etc.
That, and riding around in an Awesome named "Tiny" is just fun, even if you're the only one who knows the joke, at least for now.
It's also fun having an Atlas named Big McLargeHuge.

I don't think Raven XLs will be an immediate issue, unless PGI also throws in engine damage actually meaning something. XL costs are crazy but there's no reason to actually pay for those repairs right now, so I expect that Ravens will get a fair spin without everybody avoiding them due to XL engine costs.
Just got lucky with some pub matches. Three games in a row the enemy team didn't get more than 2 kills. Granted I'm in a medium laser boat Awesome. I killed two opposing Awesomes in 30 seconds thanks to headshots.
shit. ive been trying to play all week. stupid obligations and beeing sleepy come 10pm. i even got up at 330, played one round then went back to bed i was so tired. blech.

Yeah, but that's not going to last. No one in their right mind thinks its intentional that there's no downside to a nonrepaired piece of equipment. It's still good for testing, but eventually these crazy numbers are going to mean something.

Oh, Raven. Now that's a light mech I'd like to drive.
