At least most of the Jenners you face won't in your commando won't have any of those XL engines
I really like the 2 SSRM and 2 Med Lazerbeam! Commando varient, can drive by and component snipe from a distance at top speed... Also you greatly help your team when 3 assaults turn around to chase that easy kill they just know you are!
Sigh But shooting unarmored Atlases in the 4SP Hunchback I finally got the cash to upgrade to a 245XL yesterday was such fun!
Closed Beta is still closed beta. On the plus side, I think I've refined my Open Beta/Launch progression plan, and it'll be kind of helpful to see how this works out anyway.
If they're really doing a wipe without giving any advance notification except to what appears to be a relatively small and almost randomly selected group of people, they are going to deserve some of the forum rage that ensues.
Not all, but some.
Err...who really cares? Is advanced notification going to somehow help you NOT lose your mechs, cbills or XP?
You can make this argument for any patch or change to the game. "It's going to happen and you can't stop it, so there's no need to let you know it's going to happen."
So, no prior notice for any patch/maintenance/change from here on out? Everything just happens suddenly with no warning and have fun finding out what's different afterwards? Actually, like I said yesterday...the way they've been doing on patch schedules, they'd probably be better off not telling people about those in advance, at least as far as dates are involved. :P
It's just courtesy to the player base. Especially since they've basically always given advance warning of wipes before, and the last word was there wouldn't be any more wipes until open beta.
Not telling the players about an impending wipe/rollback, and then having it suddenly occur without warning after the plan was leaked, is what the company in The Trenches does...and a major theme of The Trenches is that the company in the comic is horrible and dysfunctional and doesn't care about their players.
Now, I'm not saying PGI is any of those things, and an important difference in Trenches is that the game in question there was live and had paying customers already, but my point is that stuff like this will only exasperate your community in the long run. And "lol beta" is not an excuse. There is no reason to think that their community management/customer service is magically going to take a giant step forward when the game goes from beta to launch, or from closed beta to open beta or whatever their arbitrary milestone is. Yes, the official forums are largely populated by Morlocks, but there's no reason to antagonize them or give them an excuse to rage. It doesn't excuse the fact that PGI's communication leaves a bit to be desired. It's not terrible, but it's a little shoddy.
Assuming a wipe really did occur, which I guess we'll find out...soon?
And the only evidence that there's going to be a wipe is from someone on the internet claiming to have received an email that nobody in this thread can verify. Can we keep the panic to a minimum until it's official?
EDIT: And they're back down again.

it's too bad this game is allegedly terrible to play using a joystick.
edit: or did they finally address that issue?
I think it's supposed to be a crapshoot right this second. Personally, I can't stand playing without the joystick part of my joystick/mouse setup because I can instantly control five different aspects of movement (throttle, turning the entire mech, torso turning, pitch, and free aim) without taking my hands off of anything, but joysticks right now have only digital control available. That means that no matter how far you push left on the joystick, the turning is simply "on" or "off" with no gradation. Which is kinda weird, since I use the joystick y-axis as a throttle and that definitely deals in analog input.
Probably has to do with the fact that the vast majority of people these days aren't sporting joysticks and the game is perfectly playable without one so it's not a priority issue. I use a modified joystick setup and get excellent results, but if you were to use just a joystick, you'd probably be unhappy with things the way they are now.
EDIT: Also, servers down for maintenance now, so looks like patching is for-real this time.
Client loader says servers are still undergoing maintenance.
It appears the login server was back up for a moment, but I think it's down again. Regular forums are up, but I think the Beta forums are related to the beta servers, and both seem to still be down

They've said they're planning to address that issue, but that it would take a significant amount of resources, so it's low priority for right now, because the current system is functional, if not optimal.
Wipe sort of grinds my gears because like a lot of people I was saving up CBills. If i knew last week there would be a wipe, I would have spent them on something like a new engine to try some crazy build out or something.

Yeah, it was only up for a moment. As soon as I reloaded the page I got kicked back out.
Just a question is it ever a bad idea to shoot the right torso/arm? It just seems for so many of the mech's that is where they keep all the hurt...
I like dropping my opponents weapons as much as possible before I attempt to core/headshot them (Also the fact that most people run once they become zombie's means I get to core them in the back which is a lot easier)
Either they're planning something crazy or the stats page is wonky. All my MC has been refunded and my Cbills show 75 million. I only had 5m before they took the servers down.
Edit: Removed everyones mechs and items, but gave people their Cbill cost? So its a wipe but you can get right back to where you were?

Honestly it depends on the build. Most Hunchies come stock with the ammo in the non-hunch torso, so that's the best place to target (because ammo explosion = lolz)

Just to note, I run an Awesome variant that I call my "Handyman" build. Since there's no ballistic or missile ammunition needed (except) the mech is nothing but pew-pew and heat sinks. I stripped all armor off of right arm, and recouped the weight in heat sinks.
Plus it's hilarious to watch your arm fall off from colliding with anyone.
My K/D W/L etc stats are still there. Maybe no wipe.
How many C-Bills does it say you have?
Some people on the official forums are speculating based on suddenly getting a huge infusion of C-bills that they wiped 'mechs and refunded the purchase prices of all the lost 'mechs.
I am showing all 20,000 MC back and 21mil C-Bills. Seems like a decent theory.

Entirely situational. For instance, I've got a mech I run with a single weapon: a giant cannon in one arm. Unless my center torso is super-ultra damaged, people should always shoot that arm first, since destroying it means I'm not a threat any more. Dragons also tend to have a ballistic weapon in an arm, so that can often be a worthwhile target. But if it's you and some other people facing off against an Atlas that only has a medium laser or two in each arm, you're far, far better off almost always focusing fire on either his left side (he'll probably have a heavy-duty ballistic weapon there) or putting damage into his center torso to bring him down fast. Unless, that is, the Atlas isn't firing at you and one or both of the arms is heavily damaged and he's got heavier energy weapons there (medium pulses, large lasers, ER large lasers, etc) and you aren't in a mech with a big knockout punch; knocking out his arms would destroy a fair amount of his flexibility in hitting targets and make him less of a threat to whatever else he's facing. And generally it's pointless to even bother with aiming at arm weapons in lights because you're more interested in just hitting them than picking them apart; if you can hit the light reliably, it'll go down in short order regardless of arm weapons.
So like I said, heavily conditional. There's a definite learning curve to it, as with much of this game. Just remember that even though limbs can carry a fair bit of armor, they have no front and back ammo pools; any damage dealt to any point on the limb damages the entire limb, so they can often be easier to hit if a target is twisting a lot. However, destroying the LT or RT section generally blows off the attached arm as well, so you're often better off trying to do that.
I seem to have a bit over 15M cbills, which seems reasonable considering I had both a Raven and an Awesome8Q. Maybe I'll use it to run an Atlas RS with ERPPCs...
So I commented: He is correct. AND In glycogenesis, free glucose 1-phosphate can also react with UTP to form UDP-glucose, by using the enzyme UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase. It can then return to the greater glycogen structure via glycogen synthase and wiener butt dick while farting.

yeah I think a lot of it comes down to "Oh he's running this variant, I should shoot this place" which should net you the best payout once you start knowing what each variant is and where it's likely to have key stuff. Sure there may be some "non-standard" builds that end up putting wiener things in dick butt locations, but those are likely to also be bad or very situational builds that will still be felled by the same strategies while farting.
Someone pointed out that your current Cbill total is simply equal to your accumulated Cbills per match, times the number of matches you've played. So if you bought something with MC, then sold it, you actually lost that money, because you got the MC back.
That person is actually suggesting that they just changed how the stat page works and didn't actually refund any Cbills, but who knows right now.

Stupid, knee-jerk hysteria. It's a refund for the value of your wiped mechs, I guarantee it. I'm reading something like 30 million C-bills, equal to the value of all the mechs I had before today plus what I had left in the bank, plus a return of funbux equal to what I spent on a mech.
So whoever said that is an idiot, because we've just been refunded the value of our stuff, not been screwed by a re-kajiggering of the money/stat system. Cripes, it's like people just lose it if they don't have real things to complain about; they just go right to making shit up instead of thinking for two seconds.
Well damn, I don't think its going to patch in time for me today. I've been F5in' like crazy

If they hold to the usual patch schedule, maintenance probably won't be done until 1 PM PST. When the email/post the patch notes seems less consistent, though.

So it's just coincidental that the C-bills total is exactly your average C-bills per match multiplied by the number of matches you've played?
Because it is. I just checked mine.
Perhaps a bug in the stats page?
The forums appear to have gone down again.

If it was just a shift in the stats page, then why would I have been refunded the exact cost of the one mech I bought with funbux? There's no "average earnings" involved with that.
It also could've been too complicated to refund exactly the costs of each mech in C-bills, so they just took all the mechs away and gave people a super-easy sum of average credits earned per match times matches played.
Basically, I'm just writing off anything that comes from those beta forums as worth about as much as a dead frog's wiener dick butt. While farting. If 1/100th of the actual doom those boards make up came to pass, the actual world would end rather than MWO just cratering like was supposed to happen months ago (according to the beta boards).

OK, good for you. But my C-bill total being displayed is the number displayed in the "C-bills per match" box, multiplied by the number of matches I've played.
I am looking at my stats page right now. I'm not some mouth-breather on the official forum. Are you saying I'm just making this up?
It also could've been too complicated to refund exactly the costs of each mech in C-bills,
Why? It's not like those costs vary.
so they just took all the mechs away and gave people a super-easy sum of average credits earned per match times matches played.
Wait, I'm confused, I thought you were saying it was a 'mech price refund and the average-times-matches-played thing was "stupid hysteria"?

Interestingly enough, mine is about 8 cbills off. My XP doesn't work out perfectly either. So whatever calculations they are doing, it's not implicitly based off the displayed Per Match numbers.

So whoever said that is an idiot, because we've just been refunded the value of our stuff, not been screwed by a re-kajiggering of the money/stat system. Cripes, it's like people just lose it if they don't have real things to complain about; they just go right to making shit up instead of thinking for two seconds.
Why? It's not like those costs vary.
