We got through it and it was a ton of fun. Only fight that gave me any trouble was Adelbern, and that's because I wasn't getting out of Foefires in time. o_O

I think a lot of what made it go so well is that I made sure to Call Target on every single pull, so that everyone could focus correctly. I had a ton of condition removal on my mesmer as well, which ended up helping dramatically.

Honestly, people who are beating their heads against the wall are probably playing with players who aren't very good at the game yet, or aren't as good at the game as they believe themselves to be. If I can beat a dungeon in the most PUGgy of circumstances, then anyone can.

People have said, at length, the problems that people have had with dungeons in the few posts above your thread. :/

Right now skill points are easy to acquire, but eventually, you will only be able to get them via completing levels past 80. How long does a level past 80 take? An hour?

Could you earn more than a gold in an hour at level 80? Looking at some of the prices for the high end ore on the AH it seems like you ought to be able to. In which case, at least if you are planning to get a legendary weapon, spending a skill point to get a gold might not be a good move.

On the other hand, gold now is much better than gold later, especially if you want an initial stock of funds to play the market in the expectation that prices will rise. And having an extra 10g at level 80 may not mean much but having an extra 10g at level 40 may be extremely significant.

But most importantly...feeling like an auction house magnate by finding and filling these imbalances in supply is FUN :D

In a decent DE cycle you can pull a skill point/15 minutes easy and that's with my very limited knowlege of the game. I'm sure that once people are zerging the best cycles it'll get even easier. 6 months from now, people that play daily will be swimming in skill points.

This happened to me on my engineer- I was running into an inquest compound for god knows what reason, and then I got in over my head

Then I saw a necromancer fighting to take down a few Inquest jerks, so I tossed my elixirs her way and she lived. She came over and helped me right as I went down.

After the fight we stood around recuperating and I noticed she was in NICE, and then we joked about stuff in gchat.

We then grabbed a broken golem arm, fought through more inquest thugs, used the arm to open a cage and destroy their macabre experiments.

i thought I'd just share an anecdote from last night on why this game is great:

I was trying to level up my armor smithing around the 200 range, taking advantage of the fact that the tier 3 mats are much much cheaper than the tier 2 mats ( a trend I don't anticipate staying that way for long). I ran over to the trading post in Lion's arch to pick up some more materials, and noticed a plant farm on my mini map in the upper far left corner of the game.

"Oh cool!" I think, "I found the Lion's Arch farm! Should go grab some plants for my daily achievement"

I run up in that direction, only it's extremely hard to get to. I can't figure out how, it is up on some kind of plateau. I ask in map chat if anyone knows how to get to the vegetables in the NW corner of lion's arch.

Eventually I think I've figured out how to get there - I can make my way up to one of the difficult to find vistas, and then travel along the top of a cliff to get on top of the plateau...but then it becomes apparent the vegetables are on top of yet *another* plateau, and I still can't reach them.

At this point a friendly random player messages me and tells me if I group up with him, he'll show me how to get to the cabbages. I thank him and tell him I think I'm close, I can see them! I describe the path I took from the vista. He tells me it won't even get me close :p

And he's right! It turns out those vegetables are part of the secret hidden overgrown well jumping puzzle in LA . He leads me through it, and I am acing every jump and doing perfectly, right up until the very last jump where I fall off and fail ignominiously. Oops! I keep trying over and over, proceeding to fail jumps I had made the first time, while he waits patiently. Eventually I get up there and harvest my vegetables! I am amused at the thought of some mild mannered old retiree hopping those pillars and teetering along those planks, watering can in hand, every morning, to water his little cabbage garden.

Then he points out that the jumping puzzle isn't over yet, there is a chest at the end! I navigate my way over and I get the chest. I thank him for showing me the ropes, and comment on how well hidden this jumping puzzle was. He asks if I know about the other Lion's Arch puzzles, and I say I've found them, but not finished them. He suggests we go do the sharkmaw cavern one together, because it's easier with two people in case you die on your way down. We die several times initially, but then he lives on the drop and rezzes me, and we proceed on our merry way through the very long and very tense pirate one. Then after that, flushed with success, we go do urmaug's or whatever. In the middle of all this I level (I think from gathering some plants) which is a nice bonus.

Anyway...hours have passed, I've done amazing things and made a new friend, and my vial of blood is STILL sitting in the auction house all lonely :D

Man. The global market makes things fluctuate really fast.

I see a rune up for sale for 95c. I just made a bunch to level tailoring and they're no good to me, so I toss mine up for 90c.

Five seconds later I see 37 of them up for sale for 55c.

Yes. While I admire the elegance of their system and general extreme ease of use of the auction house, I wonder a little bit at the decision to make it global across all servers. I guess with the ability to server switch and 'guest' they had to do it that way.

It does mean it's pretty volatile, but it also means your orders get filled pretty quickly, which is nice.

That pirate puzzle was so much fun to find! I didn't even know it existed so when I got up to the top and was taunted by the pirate to jump into the mouth i was so excited.

Sadly I was alone so dying twice trying to get INTO the mouth involved climbing all the way back up twice.

NONETHELESS! It was amazing to find that there without expecting it and working my well all the way through.

Pretty funny dialogue along the way too!

Can't wait to stumble on to more of them.

It really depends on the PUG, I had the opposite experience of my group falling apart because we couldn't deal with a pull with three rangers in AC story mode.

I don't know if it was me and my brother's fault for being bad, or if the other three group members weren't pulling their weight.

I'm hoping my brother and I can try again tomorrow when we both have time to be on and after I've worked on my build and gear a bit. Hopefully we can find some people from the guild who want to group up too.

    That's good to hear.

This might also be a good place to share some good DE chains.

In Kessex hills there is a set of them that chain and repeat together pretty fast in the western part of the zone

You defend the bridge against masses of centaurs. Once you win that, a quest pops up to destroy three centaur lieutenants to the south west. Once they are dead a quest pops up to destroy the centaur overlord to the south. They pop almost instantly and when I was in that zone there a lot of players that knew about it and would instantly run over to the location (it's far enough away it doesn't show up on your minimap, but it does show up on the main map) so you had to hurry or you'd miss it.

In Arathi highlands there are a couple good chains: there's one involving Kol: where first you defeat the giant, then you help the wife find her husband, then you help them blast through a secret rock door and assassinate some centaur strategists, then you fight the centaur boss, including his summoned earth elemental, and claim the area for the seraphs, then you defend against centaur attacks trying to retake it. It flows pretty smoothly from event to event if you just stick around and watch.

There's also a pretty hilarious event chain involving an asura inventor who has been exiled for rata sum trying to gain some elemental bits from lightning elementals. He clearly says "I'm going to go start the experiment now" when you turn in the bits, but everyone always just runs off into the distance. But if you follow him, he puts the bits in a machine and then says "Oh this experiment is going wonderfully! I've barely started and already the device has exceeded safe operating parameters! How exciting!" haha.

I think the exact composition of the spirits is random, and the ranged are way way harder than the melee. Also having a good guardian who knows how to use the missile reflect / block stuff can make a world of difference.

Using boulders or not makes more of a difference the more melee focused your group is. I think a melee group that does not use boulders is going to suffer a lot more than a ranged group that does not use boulders.

I do like not having to worry about what classes are in the group though. I'd be happy running with two guardians and 3 rangers, for example.

@Caedere they are talking explorable, not story. Explorable is very challenging, and don't think I would pug it. I would call it akin to pugging MC in vanilla WoW when it was the highest content available.

I wonder how much 250 skill points is worth in gold...

That's the real question. I would potentially buy one for a shit ton of gold. As I don't really want to level a billion crafting professions. I don't mind working towards one... but this would allow me to potentially have 2 legendaries and be a true e-baller.
With regards to this, and according to recent information being researched about them, it is looking like the skill points are going to be the cheapest aspect of legendaries. The rumored mats are seeming to total a cost of 250+ g easy. And that's just the things you can buy.

Quick question about runes that I can't find the answer to on the wiki - I'm level 51, so I can't use superior runes yet, so I'm going to use major for the moment. Can I put both major and minor runes in my armor, say 4 Major Runes of the Dolyak, and 2 Minor Runes of the Dolyak, and get the benefits from both, or does having the major override any minor benefits?

@Geod That's an excellent question, and one I think you can answer without putting on the runes. If you have one rune of ANY type in the Major category and is on an item, bring a minor rune of the same type and see if the first item is highlighted in it's list of properties from the hero screen. I assume not because major to superior runes don't have the same properties (like the % chance or on hit items in the 4th and 6th slots of the superior runes). Who knows, let's find out!

I've made a horrible mistake. I started reading about this game. Now I want it. Badly. But it's 60 bucks. And I'd have to actually go to a physical store to get it because it's digitally sold out everywhere it seems. If it were 50, or even maybe 55, I'd be on the way right now. But damnit, 60 bucks is so much. Especially on a minimum wage job. WHY ARE GAMES EXPENSIVE RABBLE RABBLE.

Everyone stop buying this game so they reduce the price to ramp up sales. it's selling too well right now, stop it.

When they first announced the end game stuff they did a video that talked about combining the two blades so that at night it is Twilight and at day it's Daybreak (I think that's the name).

Nothing more has been said on this. I do not know the procedure other than I want to make it happen.

Game needs a keyboard shortcut to toggle music.

If you're talking about turning Soule's amazing music off, you should be tarred and feathered and called a goose. GW2 should come with a brain-computer interface to pump that shit directly into your mind.

It gets kinda old with the same handful of tunes on repeat for 80 hours.

    YOU TEASE.

But you said you liked the look... so did they show the blade in this video? Do you know where this video was? I WANT TO SEE EEEET!

That's awesome, congrats! So what kind of mats do you need for the crafted exotics that are different from the rares?

Guardian is a phenomenally fun class. It's my main. I roll greatsword and mace/focus or mace/shield from pull to pull in dungeons, max tankiness basically. Constantly blinding enemies, being disruptive, and always having light fields up so people can cleanse their conditions with projectiles and what not. Oh, and the virtue of justice active damage is based on each person's condition damage, so people with high condition builds get even more out of that already awesome ability.

What traits you using and abilities you using?

I guess I meant I liked the look of them individually and in my head they look awesome as one. :)

Is cooking as annoyingly costly as the in-game warning messages make it out to be? The Toughest Crafting Discipline and all that? I generally like playing the obscure but possibly very helpful crafting types but the warnings are scaring me off.

A lot of it is bought with karma.

I would still like to see this picture of them individually... or was this from the video?

Do you remember what the video was called? You've got me all hot and bothered.

One thing I really wish they would add is the ability to craft straight out of your bank and/or collection. Especially with cooking, having to have everything in your inventory is quite a pain.
