What class doesn't have this armor? Because I'm going to play that next.
First it was the diaper pants. Then it was the mittens. And now I look like a sex slave. Everyone else looks bloody cool but none of my sets do. I'm tired of crying as all the other heroes laugh at me.

All the DoW classes start looking really cool at lvl 15ish. DoM wear mostly robes and such so you might try them?

I tried convincing SE++ to also roll Sargantanas, but they had misgivings about being on a Legacy server. It seems they are currently agreed on Behemoth.

Well, what can you do? If they want to be shafted on servers with no alternatives to poopsockers controlling crafting markets for a few months, then...eh?
Within a couple months, tops, it won't have made any difference what server type you started on; I wish they had never made the distinction because it's causing more problems than it's worth.
The thing I appreciate a bit with this game is that the ridiculously baring armor is just as ridiculous on the guys as the girls
And that even better most of the heavy armor looks like actual armor most of the time

So I am currently stymied, because I put in my Beta key, but it now will not allow me to log into the FFXIV forums and download the client. Literally the only indication in my account that I have the Beta key is buried under the links under options list for FFXIV.

It is unfortunate the whole PA community can't be together on one server. I also found it rather silly they felt choosing a server with a name they thought was cooler than Sargantanas was more important than a larger group of PA people on one server.
Yeah, all of the Legacy servers are 'ultimate' weapons/equipment from previous FF games; all of the 'fresh' servers are 'creatures' from previous FF games.
Does no one in SE++ have 1.0 characters they want to hold onto? That seems unlikely.
But, ah well, what can ya do? Folks want to play on 'fresh' servers; even if I find the reasoning a bit short sighted, it's their choice in the end.
I do think it's less reasonable to ask someone with potentially significant time invested in old characters though; which apparently is more common here than there, to give that up because some folks are afraid of some 50's.
Depending on peoples sub choices though, you can have alts so, hey, you never know.
And if not? Well, what can ya do? I'm sure there'll be plenty of great people to play with, PA or not, on any given server.
SE++ went for behemoth because there was already one person on behemoth, more people got beta passes and joined him, and there you go, now we're on behemoth.

I agree 110%. It just makes sense we all just go into one server, have a bigger free company and be able to quest/fate with a larger selection of people.
Even now I just don't see how legacy servers would apply to anyone except the most hard-core people that are aiming for world/game first from release.
SE++ went for behemoth because there was already one person on behemoth, more people got beta passes and joined him, and there you go, now we're on behemoth.
Is that just for phase 3? Come join us on Sargantanas in phase 4. We have money and crafts we can gift on to new starts, plus we'll all probably be rolling with low level classes in order to enjoy the new content.
On matera. At ~lvl20 you have a story quest that teaches you how to convert 100% soulbound items into materia. But there seems to be another quest that requires a (non-Cooking) crafting class lvl19 to learn how to place them into equipment. Correct me if I'm wrong here.
For content that requires a party, users can utilize the “duty finder” function, which is an automatic party matching system that allows users to conveniently and casually participate in party content without the stress of forming a party. However, the game design will be different for end-game content, which begins once the main story has been completed. The difficulty for end-game content will be geared toward the extremely hardcore player base. The end-game content introduced midway through FFXIV version 1.0 was received very well by MMORPG gamers, so we would like to use this as a foundation for highly challenging end-game content.
Separately, chocobos and Magitek will be implemented as mounts. In addition, from launch, chocobos will also serve as player companions that fight alongside you in battle. Magitek is also scheduled to become available as companions later on.

So, I'm not part of the SE++ community, but I just want to point out this kind of attitude would not help make a case for having them join us. It's very condescending, and generally people don't respond well to that.
So I got in the beta last night and played for about an hour. I'm really liking this game. I started with a Highlander Gladiator, cause I think I want to push towards Paladin as my first advanced job. However, this morning I messed around with making a Duskwight and I really like the way she turned out. I also checked to see what she would look like as a Gladiator in the event that I job change her from Thaumaturge, and I actually really like the look of her in that armor. So I might end up going with my female Duskwight instead.
However, I do have one question regarding the opening character scene plus the game in general... is there not any voice audio in this game? That scene at the beginning where they say "hear, listen" and all that stuff, it just seems like there should be voice there. Also, it seemed like I should get some voice during that opening carriage ride while talking to the merchant dude.

Wasn't there a schism between G&T and SE++ regarding servers with the launch of 1.0? I have this vague recollection.
It's funny that people get as adamant about servers as they do - if it's anything like last time, half the people who get so worked up about it will play a few weeks and quit.

It's not in beta, but yes the main storyline cinematics will all be fully voiced. If you play up to level 20 in the beta, you will see these cut-scenes, but they will not have voice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHnxfrvgdqw
What the hell is up with my cat constantly passing out?
Also, for anyone from Ul'dah, who is Avere? I have a dialogue where he is mentioned as having remembered me, but I can't remember who he is. He wasn't the guy on the cart in the opening cinematic, was he?
Also, I just got Trololololo'd by a Bubbly Lalafel. I feel so dirty.
I think the guy on the cart was Brennan, maybe. I've made two characters in the last 12 hours and one of the starting dudes was named Brennan. Maybe both were. He was the same guy in both towns.
Have they given any indication of when Arcanist, Summoner, and Scholar will be added to the game? Are they planned for release or are they going to be in a post-release patch.
Things are pretty lonely in Lomsa right now with Marauder being the only starting class there.
Also, one other question. Let's say I start in Ul'dah and my friend starts in Gridania, how hard will it be for us to meet up and start questing together? What level would that happen at?

Disciples of Magic (Conjurer, Thurmaturge, and soon Arcanist) don't use that stuff.
But everything, also, has clown colors for whatever reason until you can dye them.

My theory is that it creates an incentive to dye them, causing people to seek out the Dye quest

I need to find the dye quest ASAP.
I got that done earlier today.
The dye icons are not a very good reference for how the actual colors will turn out.
They also need a preview option before applying the dye.
