Also, make sure you are paying attention to both the occupancy and the room type. For example, when it says "Single, king bed room" that means single occupancy, and you're getting one bed. When it says "quad, double bed room" that means four people and 2 double beds.
I'll chime in with my displeasure regarding the lack of availability into Sunday at the Westin. It's nice that I can just book elsewhere nearby (1 mile walk is nothing) but it's an inconvenience I'd rather avoid. Anyone flying in from out of the country is likely to be flying out Monday morning. That being said: 2 of 3 parts booked! At the very least we can show up to the outside of PAX and live vicariously through the throngs of happy nerds coming in and out
Westin has mine as 2 guests with 2 double beds. I'm guessing I won't have a problem if I decide to throw 4 people in there. Anyone have experience with that size room from last year?
We're booking at the Courtyard by Marriott Boston (not on the on peak site). it's only 2.5 miles away (we drive it each morning and park at the convention centre). Parking is free, internet is free : all for $159 a night (however that's a no cancelling allowed price), it's $39 more a night if you want the option to cancel. Breakfast buffet is $12.95 but we'll be utilizing the mini fridge in the room and buying stuff at Target for breakfast most mornings (Target is within walking distance (about a 5-8 minute walk).

Well, they charge more for 4 people. If they discover that you're being dishonest, there might be additional charges. This is all speculation of course, but one can reasonably assume that the rules matter for something

I've just had the other guests wait somewhere else in the lobby while I check in. I normally just request 3-4 keys and go on my way.
Those three hotels are definitely not the bulk of attendees. Obviously people have wised up about wanting those hotels, but tons stay in the other sets of hotels as well. Also remember that there are exhibitors and enforcers that have to get hotels too, and likely also want to be as close as possible. It's a lot of people with a small supply (of ultra close hotels). It's going to sell out fast.
I HATE that this went up on a holiday, even if it is a psuedo holiday. Normally I am on top of this 100%; today, I finally get the luxury of a day off and I took advantage and went out for the morning. So I missed the good rooms and only got a king bed at Westin.
PLEASE, in the future - no launches on holidays, even if it's just a BS one like Columbus day. Seems a lot more fair for everyone.
Ok, so I was freaking out over the Westin being sold out. And then I refreshed the page, and magically, a room appeared! I filled everything out and got confirmation in an email...but is this legit? How could I have gotten a room if it has been saying everything is sold out?
Why did you guys have to do this to the rest of us
I was able to book a double at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront, which I've never heard of. Apparently it's closer to the BCEC than the Seaport, but I've never heard anyone talk about it. Anyone have any insight/experiences to share so I can learn about the hotel/hate everyone who got the Westin?

People cancel, people had a room partially reserved but never finished their reservation, etc.

Some people cancel/switch hotels/etc. When a room frees up for whatever reason it shows up there.

I certainly don't control anything to do with PAX. In addition, sometimes something will happen on a day that is not good for you. There's no way to make sure it's always good for everyone.
Got a king bed room at the Westin. Glad it's just me and my wife, crazy how fast the larger rooms went.
That's exactly what I was thinking. It's just me and my husband and we got a king room at the Westin Waterfront just two hours ago. I wonder how many people are confusing Waterfront and Copley Place, though.

Of course, and thanks for the info. I'm just venting. I can't complain TOO much, I did get a room, after all, but it just seems silly to do this on a day off for many.

I didn't even know it was a holiday till you mentioned it. I don't think *that* many places are off on Columbus day. Think of it this way, if you were at work, you might have missed it because you were working! I'm sure plenty of people would much rather have things go live when they have off. No way to please both sides at once.
I got the Twitter update through text message at 6:30 in the morning, but was still too groggy to get up and check it out, figuring it was only a warning message and that the hotel reservations would go up later today. Forgot that PAX East related things would probably be on east coast time, making it a reasonable 9:30 in the morning over there. Luckily, I had to get up at 7 to get ready for work anyway, but even then, the Westin was already out of single-bed rooms for Sunday night. And here I was expecting booking for single-bed rooms would be easier.
Feels to me like there were an oddly small number of rooms blocked off for Sunday and Thursday nights. There seem to be rooms available when booked through the hotel, but at nearly double the price, I am hesitant. What are the chances that the hotels will honor the event pricing if you ask to extend your stay by a day?

True, true. Personally, I'd never miss it if I was at work (24/7 at the PC), but you're correct. Oh well, we will have to make due.

The Ren is a great hotel. Walking distance, it's closer to the Westin than the Seaport, but not closer to the BCEC. It's still super close though.

Depends. It could be that the hotel has business folks coming in for the week on sunday night, and therefore doesn't have as many rooms available for people leaving PAX. You can always call OnPeak and ask, or call the hotel directly (although they won't know anything about your actual reservation).
I wouldn't bet on getting the event rate outside the block though.
Just a reminder to people, room availability will change over the next couple months as people up-date or cancel their reservations. I got a 2-bed room (thurs-sun) at the Seaport last year about 4 weeks before PAX East because I kept a diligent eye on the hotel availability page.
By the way, PAX East tickets are now available. Once again, no twitter update.
There were sneaky hints on the PAX Twitter page. I just happened to be on there reading them, and was scratching my head wondering if they meant what I thought they meant. :P

Speaking of the hotel availability, do my eyes deceive me or does the availability by night page on OnPeak refresh automatically?
your eyes do not deceive you, it refreshes automatically
BUT, do my eyes deceive me as I don't see anything about a shuttle service this year?
This is something that really needs to be addressed. Did they just forget to put the shuttle image next to the hotels that used it last year or are the shuttles completely gone, making us walk a good distance or pay for cabs?
I managed to get one at the Seaport for Thursday through Sunday. Hope to get a Sunday spot if one opens up, but if not, then I have a reservation at the Renaissance.
The question I have, similar to the one above, is would the hotels have any problem with 4 people in a two-bed room? I thought I noticed something during reservation about two-bed rooms with more people (like two-bed, three people under the listing), and I don't want to have two people get kicked out. I know @zershul mentioned overcrowding, and that kinda makes me worry too much I suppose.
My point is that if you tell the hotel you are going to have 2, and show up with 6, that could be a problem. If you tell them you're going to have 4 and show up with 4, that's not an issue. Most hotels have strict fire code limits on both how many people can be in a room, and how many total in the hotel. These numbers matter to them. Some people break the rules anyhow, and have no consequences... but just be prepared that if you do something outside the realm of honesty you could be at risk. If everything is on the up and up, there's nothing to worry about.
I have a question regarding this too, specifically, in regards to the type of room I booked. I booked a two bedroom triple, so for 3 people, but there is a possibility I'll have a fourth in the future. Do you suppose I'll have much trouble with that? I don't think by the time that's concrete I'll be able to switch to the quad or vice versa.

Booked for the Westin and 3 day passes purchased! Hooray! Thank god I saw people posting about reg. going live on fb...otherwise I probably wouldn't have thought to check! I am going to NYCC this week so my mind has been in a totally different place!
I haven't posted before but I just wanted to let everyone know what I was able to do. I only needed to book a single room for me and my husband at the Westin Waterfront, so this may not be very helpful to those who need to book a group. I was only able to book a single room (double occupancy) for Friday and Saturday night (do not need Sunday night). Now I know previous posts show that there is some availability for single rooms on those 2 nights so that is not big news. But what I was thrilled about is calling the Starwoods Preferred Guest line (I am a member - you can also go to spg.com). There I was able to grab another single room for Thursday night. The only consideration we have now is that we may have to move rooms between Thursday and Friday but at least we won't have to drive between diff. hotels. However, the SPG rep also indicated that she made a note on my account and that the hotel may be able to accommodate our other booking for Friday and Saturday night and merge them so changing rooms may not be necessary. So anyone who still needs additional rooms outside of Friday/Saturday, I highly recommend that you call the hotel or better yet, get an SPG account if you don't have one and call them. They have been incredibly helpful and if you have been a member, hopefully you have some points saved up and you can use those for those bookings outside of OnPeak, like I was able to do. I have also been told that I may be able to use my points once the reservation is sent from OnPeak to the Westin, but I have not received a good enough confirmation that I believe that it is a definite.
