There is something about the guy on the very left of the comic that makes me like him. He looks friendly.

Gabe looks slightly off for some reason.

Very rarely do developers seem to take advantage of the most ingenious and robust ideas for game technology. I remember seeing so many brilliant design concepts for the Wii that never came to fruition.

Gabe should already know that ideas are already very cheap. They are, in fact, free.

That is a very good idea though.

This is like a perfect example of a game to make for the Wii U.

And it probably won't happen ever.

This would be even easier to implement without any new hardware, just existing online play mechanics. Of course, I guess you could argue that is less revolutionary than...couch...shared TV...protocol? At least in the theoretical Nintendoverse where everybody shares a Friends-style apartment with all their buds.

This game is actually being made, for the PC that is.

Now I kinda hope they make a Wii U version.

Or a game where three players face off against one boss player who controls a dungeon and various minions. Or like shadow of the colossus with one guy as the colossus. Or a simcity type game where one player controls disasters. Or a game where one person controls a bomber and the other three are turret gunners.

I don't think there's enough people interested in playing a Dungeons and Dragons game AND owning a wii to really support.

What is this I don't even.

Awesome though the idea is, the question will be if the money men think the 'four serious game playing people in the same room at the same time' demographic is large enough a market. I'm guessing no.

The demographic is at least as large as the D&D player demographic (you didn't specify console, silly).

Anyways, just add the ability for friends to drop in online to alleviate that (and add convenience for people who can't always meet up in person).

This joke can be taken in two different interpretations.

    1) They are giving out free ideas to Nintendo for a game that would surely draw the hardcore gamer demographic to the Wii U.
    2) They are tossing Nintendo a bone in the form of free advertising for a system which right now is on very rocky ground.

  • spatespate Registered User new member
The safe bet is that Jerry misspelt (misgrammared?) it in the script, and Mike left it in to publicly shame him again. :)

When you say "hardcore" do you mean people like us who post on video game forums or do you mean "FUCK YEAH BRO" people who play video games?

Well, regardless, they do need to start putting up very solid video games to sell that Wii U thing. I think the potential of the system is fine and all, they just need to prove it now.

    That's one's free.

    That is one's free.

They're just being poetic. What is it to have a free? It is to game with friends, to bond, to laugh, to cry. It is to have a revolutionary Wii U controller to bring new possibilities to your gaming future. With the Wii U, you are now free. It doesn't just make you free, it is your free.

I'm not making accusations. But I would like to point out that WingsOfRedemption made this exact same suggestion on the Painkiller Already podcast less than a week ago.

Perhaps this isn't such a crazy idea after all. I'd buy it.

    Great Minds think alike...

I had this idea when I heard about SmartGlass and the Wii U.

I also thought about a Star Wars U/SmartGlass using the WotC P and P rules and some tie ins for the newer Star Wars properties.

Unfortunately you can point out to the horse that there is a huge river of clean water infront of it and that it is thirsty, but that doesn't mean it won't try running all the way home before it takes a drink.

I can see this being made by someone, maybe not with the D&D license, but with something like it. Maybe an original world.

3 Monster Hunters vs 1 Monster

Actually I guess that one is harder, because you'd have three players used to an over the shoulder view.

I think that, in order to be successful, such a game would need a bit more innovation than simply taking the idea for Neverwinter Nights and remaking it for the WiiU. Creating a DM mode that is intuitive, robust, and fun, is no small feat.

Now I'm imagining a game that's something like D&D meets Mario Party, with each session being one big quest, and multiple sessions stringing together into longer campaigns.

Just imagine a Mario Party end-of-game -type screen, but instead of coins and trophies, the game is handing out experience and new abilities and shit.

How about a game where the tablet guy is literally a dungeon master?

Three guys exploring a labyrinth of shifting walls, while the guy with the tablet moves walls around, places traps, and summons various monsters to minotaur the place.

To prevent the dungeon master from just trapping them in unwinnable situations, the players have the power to knock down walls, or tunnel under them, or something.

Also possibly an idea for Hasbro/Wizards to use the D&D IP. I didn't hear the podcast but from the discussion in the D&D thread in CF, it sounds like Mike kinda savaged Mike Mearls about D&D5e. Also the way Wizards took the awesome character builder, turned it into an awful character builder which only after a few years turned into an okay one is pathetic. And how they have one of the most fun tabletop tactical combat systems (that I've played anyway) in 4E and somehow never gave the license to anyone to make rad console or handheld TRPG with it.

Registered to post this but I think it's amazing that somebody who was introduced to RPGs only a few years ago, rapidly graduated to DM/GM is now putting together what sounds like an incredibly fun and innovative RPG. I know my gaming group would champ at the bit to play this. It's a fantastic synthesis of the lessons of Dominion with the flavour of the Dungeon Crawler. Hats off to Gabe.
