I saw Dredd last night and it was pretty good! The 3D was almost entirely unnecessary except for the few times they used the (admittedly really cool) slow-mo effect, but it was unobtrusive otherwise.
As far as hyperviolence... there were a few standout moments, but mostly it was not that bad. I would put it on a level with Expendables 2 or maybe the last Rambo movie in that regard.

Mind you, there ARE several scenes of rather graphic blood spurting/gunshot wounds, made more intense by the fact that they are done with the "slow mo" effect that the drug in the movie induces. But they are incredibly easy to see coming, so if you have a problem with that sort of thing, you can avert your eyes with no harm done.
Aside from that, there are usually blood spatters that accompany gunshots, some dudes get lit on fire (but not in an overly graphic, charred-skin kind of way), and maybe a quick shot of a decapitation or two. I'm going to spoil something here, not really story-wise, but still... just for those more sensitive to things sexual in nature:
there is one slightly dream-sequency hint at a sexual thing that doesn't actually happen, it's just a thing in a dude's mind, but there's no nudity and it lasts about 2 seconds, but I understand that some people are significantly more affected by stuff like that, so that might be a thing you'll want to avoid.

I feel like i'm missing something.
it's a movie with an r rating. there is going to be violence and probably nudity. These things shouldn't be surprises? Who is balking at it?

I dunno, there was some hubbub in this thread yesterday, and some people had expressed a distaste for the level of violence that was supposedly on display in this movie. I was just trying to add some detail for people who may have wanted to see it, but are averse to hyperviolent or extra-bloody action scenes.
Also, yes, apparently children ARE going to see this movie. The showing that I went to last night (a 10pm showing, btw) had a family of four sitting a few rows behind us, including what appeared to be kids of the ages 6-ish and 10-ish.

first of all, that's crazy that kids are being taken to the movie.
second of all, I am surprised that the same forum that lauds The Raid would have a hubbub about Judge Dredd.

I like KC Green because he's not always on.
what on earth would require me, in my line of work, to minutely examine poop?

In fact, I don't think Archime was posted this week. Ehh, better not. It's borderline NSFW, but still pretty great.

Edit: Can I put it in the fanart section? If so, should it be credited to your nickname?

You can, sure. I may still work on it a little, and add some color, so if you don't mind replacing it with an updated version at some point...
You can credit it to "J. Giovannettone" if you add it.
