Ants in my car's pants. Ants everywhere. OMG ANTS.
I don't have any pictures but I'll take some when the sun is up. Basically, I have ants in my car. And on my car. And in the insterstices between the insides and outsides of my car. They're everywhere. I was just outside and they're crawling all over the top and hood and in the inside to a lesser extent. This is a new development (today). They're just a little bigger than fire ants but they aren't fire ants, which is probably an incredibly good thing. (I live in FL) I had a couple empty clif bar wrappers I had in a trash bag, in which they found crumbs I guess and were nomming on this morning. The food has been removed but the ants are still there. The car was driven, because damned if some ants are going to get me fired, though it was kind of an experience. One that I do not recommend.
I desire, very much so, to make them go away. I'm ok with killing them, because let's face it, they are ants. I'm pretty certain I won't be upsetting any delicate ecological balances. That said, what's the best way to go about this? I have no moral qualms about poison, but I have a dog that rides with me on occasion so that's a thing to consider. Help me, penny arcade. Help me murder some (all of the) ants that have invaded that sovereign nation of Josephine (which is incidentally my car's name).
Get some ant traps - make sure they're the kind that the ants are intended to take the food back to their nest to kill the entire colony. Put them in your car. When your dog is riding in the card, put them somewhere he can't get to them.
I'd probably mask off the HVAC and bugbomb the car (to kill the ants inside) using a dry fog (to protect the ceiling and upholstery) with a window cracked overnight, then drive it around with all of the windows down and the fan on for a while (to air it out), stop by an automatic car wash (to remove the ants outside/under the hood and to vacuum the ant corpses out of the interior, as well as do a complete check to make sure you got every wrapper/piece of food out), install the traps mentioned above, and then find a new place to park. Look around your spot during the daytime, you might be parking on an ant colony and not know it.
Also, you should check around the underside of your car for roadkill. You might have hit something small like a squirrel or a bird and not noticed, and the corpse could have become lodged your undercarriage somehow. This might attract ants that would later find your food wrappers.
No matter what, you're going to want to deep clean your car. At the very least, you'll want to remove your seats and vacuum the bejeesus out of it. You'd be surprised at what can accumulate beneath them over time, and ants are happy to go apeshit over the tiniest pieces of anything edible.
They probably went into your car when water started getting into their nest. Park the car in a hot spot with the windows open and they might just leave.
This will kill all the ants. Just sprinkle around where you park your car and they will flock out and die.

Place ant traps. They are way better and safer in case of pets and small children than springling some stuff inside your car.
Ant traps should solve the problem in a matter of days while you will still be able to use the car.
Do you have any idea how or why the ants got there? If you leave food or empty wrappings or sodacans stuff like that in your car, try not to do that anymore.
terro traps are a god send. they cost maybe $5 for 6 of them at walmart or lowes or home depot and using just two of them in your car should do the trick.
