Nintendo just finished their big launch announcement of the Wii U console. You can watch it here: http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu

The launch date for the Wii U is November 18th.

Bayonetta 2 is Wii U exclusive. Also there's going to be a Call of Duty game on it.

I blatantly stole the rest of this from the G&T thread

Release Date: Holiday 2012
Price: TBA
Specs: TBA

The Wii U is the sixth major Nintendo home console, and the first to feature full HD graphics. Building off of the success of the wildly popular Wii, the Wii U is hoping to pull back in the video game enthusiasts that were lost when Nintendo courted the casual audience. Featuring third-party support from major publishers such as Ubisoft and EA alongside the standard first-party library, Nintendo is hoping to make the Wii U the system for everyone.

At the heart of the Wii U is the new tablet-esque controller that allows the player to free themselves from the cruel tyranny of the TV. The screen is touch sensitive and can be used via stylus or finger. The controller features dual stick controller (and the sticks can click for extra functionality), four trigger/bumper buttons, four face buttons, and both accelerometer and gyroscope for motion control. Nintendo plans on having a healthy library of casual games that can be played exclusively on the controller screen. Meanwhile, larger titles will make use of the controller for a variety of gameplay purposes such as inventory management, aiming weapons, and so forth. This video shows the possibilities.

The Wii U can support two of these controllers at the same time. It also supports just about everything from the Wii, including the remotes, balance board, and so forth. There is also a new controller for games that don't require the extra screen. The Pro pad is intended to be a more comfortable controller for more conventional control schemes.
ScPEn.jpg

Another important thing to note: the tablet controller also features a camera and microphone. This will be utilized in things like Miiverse.

Hey, let's talk about Miiverse
At2JY.png
Nintendo is basically diving head-first into online. The Wii U will feature standard entertainment such as YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, and so forth. The real thing here is Miiverse, which is a network that shows what people are playing, and allows you to brag, get assistance, offer comments, or post crude drawings of genitals. The image above shows the Miis clustering around games they play, be they friends or some stranger from Utah, and comments/drawings will pop up every so often. Nintendo promises that they will make sure Miiverse doesn't spoil games for you or anything. Like when your friend tells you that Bowser kidnapped Peach.

Here's an annoying video to demonstrate the feature.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXfqtq_Yk0Y

Friend codes haven't been brought up yet, but there's a good chance that they might be on the outs. At the worst, it'll probably just be a per-system code like the 3DS as opposed to the clusterfuck of the Wii and DS. Speaking of the 3DS, the Miiverse won't just be a Wii U thing. It'll eventually be ported over to the 3DS, and you'll be able to utilize certain parts of the Miiverse on your PC, smartphones, and tablets-that-aren't-controllers.

Hey, let's look at some games.

Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends are enough to get me to buy this thing. (ZombiU also looks cool, but I have to see some more hands on gameplay impressions of it.)

Mario and Smash brothers were what got me to buy a Wii a week after launch, I'm waiting to hear what they're gonna do with those before I decide to pick one of these up.

I'm considering the Wii U but the only problem is space. My brother's room is the only area that has the space for it.

Yep, getting this for Bayonetta 2.
That is literally a 360 controller with the right stick and face buttons swapped

Also, this isn't a bad thing. The 360 controller is pretty comfortable. The buttons might be a little uncomfortable to hit, but we'll see.

I think the 360 controller has the best design out of any I've ever used

But that doesn't change the fact that nintendo's controller is a 360 controller with the face buttons and right stick switched

In the wake of Nintendo's original Wii becoming such a popular device used to stream video services like Netflix, Nintendo has announced a new entertainment initiative for the new Wii U: "Nintendo TVii."

Described as a way to "Find, Watch and Engage with TV, Movies and Sports," Nintendo TVii is a wildly cross-integrated entertainment solution that will turn your Wii U GamePad into a "second screen experience" while you watch your favorite content. Miis will be used to mark off personalized favorites for different family members in the same household, while the GamePad will let you control your DVR to record shows, set favorites, tweet your reactions to live moments on TV and more.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video and Tivo will each be integrated. "Bringing all of your services to one place," is how President Reggie Fils-Aime describes Nintendo TVii.

Nintendo TVii is included with every Wii U purchase, with no additional fees.

They could do much worse than emulate the current xbox controller, it's the best controller in recent memory aside from the d-pad
