I once tried to verbalize the reasons I had for attending midnight launches
I failed
I've never been part of a midnight launch. Looks fun, but I've never wanted something that badly that I couldn't wait til the next morning. :P
I've been to a couple midnight launches for products I liked and had a good time. This comic just makes it cuter.
ahh to be young and naive again
I have been to one midnight launch and one only.
...
Who's shamed now, huh?
That was my first and last console launch. It was hell and I did not get Zelda. Oh and some lady showed up at midnight accused me of being a pedophile and tried tomget my spot in line. Pre orders for life.
okay lemme think
I was at the Wii midnight launch
I got Halo 3 at midnight, and Burning Crusade I think
umm
and Halo 2 actually, first in line for that one
Of the phantom menace.
This comic is adorable, by the way.

Only other midnight launch I've been to was for GTAIV, and I was just keeping a mate company. (It was fucking cold that night too.)
The only video game related midnight release I did was for the first WoW expansion while in college.
Also been there when a store open on the first day of release for many many consoles/games/books.
I made it to TBC and Cata's midnight launches. I wanted to get to WotLK but I had an overnight job at the time. I won't be going to MoP's (I'm not even getting it).
Cata's was the only one I had a remotely positive experience at, and it's only because I made a display of myself when the manager found out an employee was hiding a Collector's Edition copy. So the manager started to announce it was up for grabs and I jumped on it before she could finish making the offer. But aside from that, at both midnight launches, I just stood around awkwardly among a bunch of people of varying demographics, and in both cases I was in proximity of people who were quite clearly making shit up about the game when relating their nerdy exploits. Like the guy who used to talk about how much fun he had running around with his skeleton pet as a warlock when the game first launched. What?
Same. I was supposed to go to the last one as well, but I was hanging out with a girl and one thing led to another and I ended up having much more fun than a midnight launch.
For the most part, I'd rather enjoy something when I'm well rested than when it first comes out. So old
Nope. The "Daddy Lies" comic comes to mind.
But teaching your son to survive the witching hour is a much more important thing.
I've done midnight for a Harry Potter book (don't remember which one) and sadly the toys from Attack of the Clones breaking streetdate at a Walmart. I hit a Target at 3am before opening because they were getting a Wii shipment too - but that wasn't too painful, they gave us numbers so we could go off, eat breakfast and nap in our cars.
I've never done the line camping thing. I live in a small town in region populated with other small towns all spread out from each other. Midnight launches just ain't a thing here.
I thought it was going to be a mini-PAX
It was not.
Burning Crusade line was great. Very Canadian. It was like -25oC. People were making Tim Horton's runs and taking orders for everyone in line. The guys at BestBuy went to a nearby store and picked up a few boxes of those hand warmer packs and handed them out to everyone. They had trivia contests and were giving away stuff like keyboards, mice, posters, mousepads, etc. It was fantastic.
Wrath was meh. Mainly because I was surrounded by hardcore PvPers who wouldn't shut up about how they were going to hang around the first Outland Zone and gank Death Knights and generally "pwn noobs". I, though I play on a PvP server(not by choice), couldn't give a single poop about PvP. The staff at BestBuy hardly handed out any free stuff. On top of that, it was actually a nice evening, weather-wise.
Cataclysm was an OK experience that was marred by the fact that I can go to BestBuy or Futureshop NOW and buy a copy of the Cataclysm CE. Best part of the line was when people would drive by and ask us what the line was for and everyone would say "Inception Midnight release. They're giving away an awesome keychain with it!" and people believed us...and thought we were nerds...which we are.
Same here. I then banned myself from the Internet until I finished it. After what happened with the sixth book, it seemed like the right answer.
I also bought this little Time Turner pendant thing.
Then we went back to the local bookshop and picked our copy up from a guy dressed as Dumbledore who was chatting in character to a group of totally hyper kids who had been allowed to stay up. Good times!
*edit* Oh yeah, the comic :P I really liked this one. The punch line in the last panel got a "haha awwww!" from me.

I know of this shame. I think I spent 6 hours in line for tickets and another 12 to actually get in. Mind you, I was in 6th or 7th grade at the time, and my father had pulled me out of school to go hang out with a bunch of Star Wars nerds for extended periods of time, on my own, so really it was kinda bitchin' at time.
MY IMMERSION IS RUINED, pre-order cancelled etc
I wish my son (7) would be asleep by 8:36 ...
