What the fuck, man. I'm the only Asian in pretty much every single friendship group I've ever been in.
Your assumption can kiss my ass.
I wasn't saying it to put you down or anything because it's been my experience among my asian friends that they arent the ones that peer pressure about drinking.
You have completely missed my point. Read my post once more and try again.
mrt, I think the problem is you made statements instead of questions.
Had you said "I know in my experience my Asian friends tend to be less pushy about drinking than my White friends, do you happen to hang out with a lot of Asian people too?" I think the response would have been much more positive because there you're just relating an experience and asking a relevant question, whereas the way you actually posted it comes across as making assumptions, and Viv is good friends like Umptions, so she don't like it too much when you make an ass out of them.

based on your posts, I am reading the following:
1. you are assuming all Asians are the same
2. you are assuming that because I'm Asian, there would be a "strong Asian component" to my friendship group (your words, not mine)
3. you are assuming that because my friends don't have an issue with not drinking, that they are Asian
4. you are assuming that no white people would be okay with not drinking and that all white people are jerks re: drinking
5. you are stupid
whereas the way you actually posted it comes across as making assumptions, and Viv is good friends like Umptions, so she don't like it too much when you make an ass out of them.

If that's what you got out of my comment thats your baggage, not mine.
You are making radical assumptions of people she hangs out with based on her skin colour.
Think what you are saying.
It's a more radical assumption that she is the only person of her race inhabiting a specific area and furthermore it's not an assumption based on any sort of negative stereotype of asians. I grew up with a large minority of asian americans where I lived, and it would be impossible to form an opinion that asians only hang out with other asians based on that.

1. nope, you're injecting the word all here.
2. why would I assume the opposite given your locale? Why would i think "Asian australian is the only asian australian in all her peer groups". Not that even making that assumption alone confers any sort of crazy xenophobic stereotype of asians.
3. it stands to reason based that my closest friends and numerous acquaintances are not the only asians in the world that have a similar level of conscientious behavior towards drinking (especially given the inability to consume alcohol without feeling flush and getting severe headaches.)
4. nope, you're injecting the word all here.

But why do you need to assume the racial mix to begin with?
But why do you need to assume the racial mix to begin with?

Y'know mrt, you could have just apologised for making assumptions based on race, because no matter how you slice it, that’s a pretty silly thing to do. Instead you’re standing your ground on this particular issue, and I can’t quite figure out why.
But why do you need to assume the racial mix to begin with?

this, based on your previous posts, tells me that since you think Australians are alcoholics to the extent that anyone living in Australia being okay with NOT drinking must therefore have a high chance of being Asian

2c. Your original assumptions did not ask a single question or pose any curiosity regarding my own experiences, you just assumed they were the same.
3c. You have missed the point of this. While you claim that you don't think all Asians are the same, you have also managed to imply that all Asians become flushed or get headaches when drinking, which is why you believe they do not drink as much. I do not get why being polite has anything to do with anything.
4c. This does not preclude the value/belief/idea that is informing your statement, which is that most Asians are like THIS and most white people are like THAT.

There are extremely few situations when the non offended is actually right.
Maybe you should make some assumptions based on those statistics and figure out if you are right.
