Okay. My wave of emotion and stupidity has passed and I've decided against starving myself (thankfully).
But I've been keeping a food diary and I haven't been overeating - except on one occasion where I ended up throwing it up afterward (yes, on purpose. I know, I'm dumb). My doctor says my thyroid and hormones check out fine, but I'm still way overweight. And according to my food diary I've been averaging 1800-1900 calories daily. Some days slightly over, some days slightly under. So should I cut down to like 1400? Because I'm still holding steady at 'disgusting' and I'd like to get away from this point. And even though I work out 3 times per week or so after work (a bit of lifting, some stretches, and ~8-10k of cycling at a good pace), that needle hasn't been moving.
My diet sucks. I eat oatmeal for breakfast. I eat apples and granola bars at work (1 apple one bar per day), and at night I'll eat a bowl of whatever I've made (I tend to cook food in large batches so I can just eat something when I get home and relax).
I obviously need to eat more vegetables and more fruit. So maybe I need to invest in a cooler pack and diversify my worktime snacky foods a bit. And perhaps I should learn the art of salad (but lettuce and dressing is so boring and it seems like any effort to liven it up just results in it being a huge meal). And I think I should eat more soups. Light soups. There's a fridge at work - so I could bring yogurt or whatever.
And I tend to eat only a minimum amount of meat (because I've seen a doctor about this and his advice was to stay away from dairy and animal products if possible), but a lean little cut of something in a stir fry or something would probably be fine.
Hell if I know. I guess because they're relatively high calorie compared to a lot of things.
I'm kinda sick of oatmeal, honestly. I miss eggs and toast. And I miss bacon (even turkey bacon). And I miss chicken breasts and all of that. I am the worst vegetarian.
It's hard to say without seeing exactly what you're eating. Oatmeal, granola, and fruit could either be a really good choice or loads of sugar, depending on your selection.
You could try upping your exercise. I know people in here tend to say it's the food intake that matters but personally I find my weight is basically directly linked to my activity level and doesn't have a huge amount of correlation with my eating habits unless they get extreme in one direction or the other. People have different metabolisms and body chemistry and what works for some won't work for others.

Yeah, I agree.....i can't imagine a reason not to eat chicken breasts, maybe if he said stay away from red meat i could understand some bit of where he's coming form but damn...if you like chicken breasts eat chicken breasts....don't be a vegetarian because your doctor is one
and as stig said, oatmeal and granola and fruit can bring about too much sugar (either through the natural sugar in fruit or adding a ton to make your oatmeal taste like something edible) which may not be the most healthy choice.....
The other day I had one of those cinnamon apple flavored oatmeal packs that was in the house because I was starving and the amount of sugar in it almost killed me.
I've lost a couple pounds since I've started eating a bit better. I'd like to get some exercise but work is doing its best to kill that desire this week.
Making yourself throw up after meals, even occasionally, is something that will really no fooling fuck you up. Like, coma followed by death fuck you up.
DDV, I would recommend against using weight as your sole measure of progress if you're also doing a decent amount of exercise, particularly weightlifting because of the body composition changes. Various skin fold and circumference measurements would give you a better idea of fat loss.
Your diet sounds pretty good to me, just up the protein with chicken or something and that should allow you to maintain satiety with fewer carbs and overall calories, which should speed up the fat loss.
It's true that when I lost all that weight before I was cycling to work. And the shit I ate there sometimes...good god. But that was ~12=15k of cycling six days a week plus a job where I was constantly lifting and moving around and running and ugh even then I was still overweight. Maybe I'll cut more and exercise more.

or if you REALLY want to stay vegetarian just up the protein with i guess maybe beans or tofu or quinoa or nuts or hemp protein powder..i dunno.....protein stuff....
I had a gif that was perfect for that racism fight and I can't believe I missed it. Frickin' time zones man, why can't we all just live at the same time.

Hey you guys I ran 40 miles before breakfast and also lifted some weights and also saved a drowning puppy and also had a threesome with some Italian models in the park. It was ok I guess, I might need to work out more later.

I still haven't had a chance to read anything about what I said I would.
Still plan on doing it, just not sure when.
Don't worry about it! I am still practicing. Painfully. Keep having to revise weights downward on account of weaksauce. Have crappy form on the barbell squat. Only doing light stuff every other day.
And then Beast be all "Oh those 2500 points on fitocracy? NBD. Could be better."
So I have been tracking my progress since October or so. Mainly just keeping measurement of my waist around the navel and logging my workouts in fitocracy.
I went from 33 inches around the navel in October to 29 inches as of last week.
Feels pretty good, especially since there was a three week period at the end of December and beginning of this month that I was not working out and not eating as clean.

You and me both Jimmy, you and me both.
Although my ass and thighs are getting too tight in my pants but my waist is staying the same size, yes it is.
