Dammit that sounds delicious but I don't have any of the ingredients here.

Spotted some forbidden rice at Whole Foods the other night, so I finally got a chance to make a forbidden rice pudding from one of Sherry Yard's books. A blend of forbidden rice and jasmine rice cooked together in coconut milk and whole milk with some lightly toasted green cardamom seeds and some sugar. The forbidden rice gives everything an unusual and cool purple color, and I wish I would have taken a picture.
It was a big hit with friends who were over, just like everything else I've made from one of Sherry Yard's recipes.

I've actually never seen alcoholic ginger beer, despite having sampled many varieties of the non-alcoholic type. Weird.

Oh, yeah, alcoholic cider always. Although obvs. some of the alcohol will boil offin cooking (hence the shots)
Usually when I do something like this. (ie mulled wine)
I add the spices (and I suppose the candy in this case) and then the bare minimum of liquid to cover, then I boil that to bring out the flavour (or melt candy). Then I add the rest of the liquid and just bring that to a lower temperature but still warm.
It was green! and then the blender got to the berries. And it turned purply.
might not use the berries anymore. because the color is kind of off putting. especially when i know it's not going to taste like chocolate.
@lonelyahava That happens! I hope it was still delish.
It was... interesting.
I need to work on balancing the flavors out a bit more. i think i got a bit too much spinach.
I think tomorrow morning is going to be some spinach, basil, romaine, banana, and maybe some of my lychees. as well as some lemon! or lemon juice. Lots of different things to try and can get all kinds of canned fruits down here.
Are beets a thing in one of these? can beets be a thing? hmmm
I think the secret may just be to get a insulated mug and a straw.
I don't usually put the root of the beet in there because I don't like super starchy veggies in my smoothie. Instead, I blend the greens in (minus the thick stalk) and save the roots to roast up for dinner.
Now I'm hungry!

yeah i'm getting ready to go make some foods.
beef stir fry with the longkun noodles tonight!
nom nom nom.
do you get the same nutrients in the greens as you do the root? hmm
So if I make some of that stuff what kind of ginger beer, cider, and brandy should I use?
well, the apple cider should just be whatever decent-tasting cider you can get your hands on. Not pear, that's too sweet, and you'd probably want it fruity rather than dry but eh, that'll be a personal preference. Brandy should be something decent but doesn't have to be great (if you can get some apple brandy, man, that would probably be awesome).
The ginger beer is more important - make sure you get something that's been properly brewed with real ginger root. Many companies just make carbonated sugar water and add ginger flavouring, which just won't be as good. Check the ingredients list, basically.

Ginger beer is my secret ingredient in my butterbeer recipe. Well no, actually that's the liquor 43. I guess that's more of a secret.
... Wait shit.
is it closer to beer or spirit? I assume beer.
As it's not called ginger spirit.
There is also ginger wine.
Which is closer to alcoholic content to, wine.
Satans..... hints.....
If you put a can of ginger beer, a litre of apple cider, a cinnamon stick and a few werther's originals in a pot on a stove
And heat it until the werther's have melted
And then take it off and pour it into mugs and add a shot each of brandy and liquor 43
You have a fucking awesome winter drink.
If you add a tablespoon of butter it's technically a butterbeer recipe but personally I'm not a fan, makes it oddly greasy.
ya'll have weird names for everything
was just checking
Stale do you not have Jamaicans up there, they drink ginger beer
took me until blake's post to realise this meant the alcohol content and you weren't looking for, like, photos to prove it exists
But personally I think it needs the kick.
IT IS ON
Oh my god.
Why did you tell me this after the real winter has ended.
Satans..... hints.....
I was hoarding it for myself in the snowy wastes.
Like if you had a choice and don't have to drive home.
Always hard cider

To be fair, you can get ginger beer that is non-alcoholic.
But why would you?

Gotta go booze shopping next week I guess!

Although, now that it's spring....

Rose river ginger beer.

Didn't know if it would be actually good or just a cheap gimmick.
@lonelyahava That happens! I hope it was still delish.
Just because Stale doesn't know about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist here.
This stuff is super delicious.
Haha no
