If you put a can of ginger beer, a litre of apple cider, a cinnamon stick and a few werther's originals in a pot on a stove
And heat it until the werther's have melted
And then take it off and pour it into mugs and add a shot each of brandy and liquor 43
You have a fucking awesome winter drink.
If you add a tablespoon of butter it's technically a butterbeer recipe but personally I'm not a fan, makes it oddly greasy.
that's kinda a crazy hot toddy

I guess we're staying north of SOMA on Howard Street at the intercontinental, but we've already got plans up near Golden Gate Park and the marina greens. Also gonna zip up to Mill Valley for a bit one day.
Really just winging this trip though so if there's some to-die-for place a little more out of the way that may work too.
Hello, does anyone know if there is a trick to getting water to boil in a pan on an electric hob quickly? I'm used to a gas hob and the electric one in my flat seems to take ages!
Sadly, there is no quick method of making electric stoves heat up faster. Just get it as hot as possible before you put it on, basically.
Although once I was having the devil of a time heating water for pasta on an electric stove. It would take me at least half an hour or more to get it hot enough.
After a few days I realised that the stove had very stylish, very flat, very black burner covers.

I do this but also I also prefil the pot with some hot water to initially warm it up, empty that. Then will it with ten or 15 mm of water first and throw it on the hob while the water is boiling in the kettle.
I made a pumpkin cheesecake with a gingersnap crust and I have no idea how it is because it's for my father-in-law's birthday so I have to wait until tonight to cut into it and the suspense is killing me
I ran 10km and treated myself to a dinner of seared duck breast and chips. it was awesome and delicious and now I'm gonna go draw while watching game of thrones.

i discovered yesterday that while roasted pumpkin seeds are delicious, they are probably not the best things to chop up and use in place of nuts when making pumpkin muffins.
Ooh those look nice! I made hash browns successfully for the first time this morning... I think the problem in general is that I never wanted to let them cook quite long enough so they were crispy outside, raw inside.
I think I want to try making hash browns this week. I can shred the potatoes fine with a cheese grater, yeah? About how much oil would I want to fry with, and should I dry out the shreds first?
I just went with what someone posted in here a while back - shred them on a box grater, squeeze out as much water as you can, and toss them in a pan with a little oil. I just used the pan I made bacon in and drained the fat until it was almost completely dry but it's a brand new higher end nonstick pan so I didn't really need oil for anything but flavor and browning.
I didn't even bother to peel the potatoes, also I had to cook them a lot longer than I always thought I would so that's another thing to keep in mind.
@neville and other foodbros, my cheesecake was tasty but fell in. What did I do wrong?!
Can be lots of causes, actually.
Usagi's point is correct.
Cheesecake naturally rises when baking (as do most/all cakes), but if you don't butter the sides, it may grow radically then fall.
Using a water bath can also help a lot!
Personally I don't care if it falls; I care more about cracks, if anything.
Yesterday my family went to a local brew fest. Dear lord. I had over 85 different samples. Southern Tier stands out as amazing beer all around. Also Sprecher the root beer guys are getting into real beer and they are great. And Woodchuck as an IPA that was pretty good
My Uncle took us to the Bouchon that's in the Venetian at Vegas when I was visiting this Summer. Their thing seems to be "pile fries so high." I had a pork chop that had been slow cooking for around 12 hours and it was still pink on the inside and so good.
When they brought the bill the maitre'd asked my Uncle whether he'd enjoyed his 98th meal there, so I think that's as good a recommendation as any.

Dim sum twice and a traditional Cantonese diner and so much snacks.
If I lived in this city I would have to exercise twelve times as much to work off the food I would eat.
The best was the barbecued pork in thin rice noodle wrappers and the crispy thing with golden syrup and the fried noodles with shrimp.

I picked 10 pounds of apples this weekend and I'm going to be making some apple sauce and freezing some of that and now I need to make a pie. There is a solid chance that this pie will go to feed a few of the DC based forumers as well. If I'm feeling so generous (likely not).

Made a simple meal of Moroccan spiced chicken, steamed asparagus with a cream lemon and chili sauce thing on a bed of caramelised onions. It wasn't too bad considering it was just a raid the house meal.

Thanks! It was my first one so I'm not stressed but I'd like to do better. I will probably try a water bath next time, I saw that suggested in the comments to the recipe I was using but I was baking late at night and it seemed like too much work. I also need to sort the crust out, it was too thick and very sticky so it made it a little hard to eat.

Hahaha, stylishly deceptive.
you didn't really want to see what the inside of those burner covers looked like
when I left i cleaned the kitchen to an absolutely spotless state and hoped like hell nobody would think to look at them.

and to follow up I made some hash browns:
Sadly the photos came out a little blurry this week, but no matter. Onward to next week!
that sounds like a lot of work

although i added an egg to the batter so they were more like little potato cake things.
i'm looking forward to doing them again with some sweet potatoes and some zucchini.
