My first Breakdown game bugged out :-( I'm thinking 26 Survivors may have caused it to freak? Not sure.

So I started a new one. First character has the Jerk trait, but he's also a Mechanic, Tough as Nails, and used to Tailgate (at hockey games, guessing from his hockey stick he started off with)... and has an awesome cowboy hat. So he's a dick, but he's a dick that's hard to kill and has two skillsets useful at home.

He also had the honor of burning through more coffee and energy drinks than I can count as literally everyone else was either injured or sick. I finally brought him home when he too fell ill. Thankfully, one of the new survivors got over her illness, and now she gets to take the role of "only healthy survivor". There's an enclave literally across the street from my home, so hopefully they'll join us soon. Because this whole "everyone is wounded or sick" stuff? Mildly terrifying.

If his last name is _____ Rassle or some such, you got the good cowboy character. There is another who is a Dimwitted Lawyer. Which is amusing but he is kinda not that great. (You can get better characters with research (I think that's his main asset) and who have better traits overall)

Interestingly the other character with similar traits to the aforementioned character is absent minded, so I guess it's just the games way of kinda telling you "we don't want you to use this character to do risky searching missions".

(the female equivalent has short black hair and a green shirt) absent minded sounds a lot better than dim bulb ,though . even if it's the same effect.

26 survivors in Breakdown sounds like a LOT of extra mouths to feed. And freeloaders who will just grab guns, and then be left behind when you take off in the RV.

I think I'm going to try something when I switch levels next. I'm going to grab as many high-priced weapons as I can stack in inventory, go to the next level, then trade them back in for some easy Influence. Then I'll at least be able to bring one or two people along with me to secure a home site and an outpost or two. I nearly died when going out on my own at the start of level 3.

Guys this game is fantastic. I feel like it plays best in short bursts. I hop on, do a few missions, make sure no one's killing each other, and then quit for the day.

    Although (minor story spoiler):
I felt kinda bad about shooting Alan. I took him to a far away place and shot him. He didn't say anything at all the whole trip and then just kneeled down on one knee.

Say what you want about the man, but he follows what he preaches. He got sick and knew it was time and didn't fight it.

Yeah, I thought they could have done a lot more with that scene.

I didn't feel bad at all though.

Trick is to have a few survivors there. When it's attacking one survivor, attack it from behind. Alternatively: unload an automatic weapon into it.

it was one of those besieged missions so there were several other survivors there. it actually just spawned in my face and trapped me in a corner. i was pissed but also she had spent quite a bit of time injured and i hadn't gotten very attached to her.

Yeah, the first few hours were tricky for me as well. Haven't lost anyone though, and I'm up to 46 people at the Warehouse. I just can't say no to anyone!

I've always been lucky and haven't had any hordes hit my RV.

Oh man I may have screwed up. Went on the Momento mission with Marcus. Sent him in there with only 1 snack, 1 painkiller, and a coffee.

I ran out of ammo and had about a sliver of health all the while the infested buildings were pouring out zombies and there were like 4 hordes. I saved and quit but I'm sure he'll be dead by the time I get back which will piss me off.

Have they set the Steam release up for KBAM? I don't have a controller so I've been waiting on that before I pulled the trigger.

Obviously I'll end up waiting a week or two either way for possible Winter Steam Sale discounts, but this has been on my radar for a while, as a couple of friends were fairly gaga over it on xbox.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

Mouse movement is odd though. I'm used to it now, but it certainly feels like a console port.

  • f3rretf3rret Registered User regular
Yeah, mouse is definitely jerky. Don't let it scare you off though, the game is pretty good.

Ok, let me be the voice of reason here: the mouse control in this game is terrible. Like, hyper shit. You can get used to it, but in the same way that you could get used to a colony of fist sized spiders nesting in your car.

Controller or bust. At which point you realise that there's no auto aim and shooting is a fucking chore. Other than that, great game.

Being able to aim is way too important to me to use a controller.

Can you mix the two? Can you move with the left thumbstick, and aim with the mouse?

  • urahonkyurahonky Registered User regular
I get the feeling their camera was designed using acceleration rather than absolute positioning and that's why it feels odd on the PC.

There seems to be some auto-aim with a controller. It's a pain in the butt when you're trying to lead though...

They should just put auto-aim in the PC too. Like, snap to head.

Or build in a hardware mouse pointer and go from there.

I play on PC, with a wired XBOX controller. I guess it's more of an aim assist than an auto-aim, because it doesn't snap. More of a nudge.

Aye, it snaps on console. The rifle specialisation talent doesn't work on PC because they removed the snap.

So I did the SweetFX thing, but it doesn't appear to be working.

Had it crash originally, then did as suggested and used the newer version and just copy the setting acorss.

Stopped it crashing, but no visible difference.

When you press scroll lock in-game, does anything change? If not, you did something wrong. Scroll lock dynamically toggles SweetFX on and off in a game.

    Yup, nothing changed.

It's most likely the settings file.

Did you download the new settings file? Once you pop that in it will make a bit of difference. I changed mine to include HDR and some increased AA because I loves me some AA.

Anyone have any idea why my roommate can't move into a new home? He has the population and has the materials. He NEEDS to get out of the church... Ton of infested houses there.

He went into a new place and pressed alt and nothing showed up.

What's stupid about it isn't that they make you do the quest (I actually like the story about Sally Savini (yay, Savini!) and the way Jacob gets excited about the tree fort), it's that it just sort of randomly appears when you go home, sometime after you rescue Jacob.

edit: I think The Ed Situation has to be resolved too.

Now that I think about it, it's probably after Jacob recovers from his injury. Maybe (and I can't believe I'm saying this because it means more of Lily whining on the radio to you) it would be better if they had Lily hit you up when that happens. "My brother's been bugging me about moving out of here. Can you come back and talk some sense into him?" or something. Better yet, have the mission trigger the next time you visit home after rescuing Jacob (and, of course, dealing with Ed's fate), injury or not. Suck it up, Jake, it's the apocalypse. You can ride around in a car for a little while. :)

I started dlc round 2 almost immediately.

Special infected are everywhere. Zombies are everywhere.... its dangerous.... I hear on 3 and up the radius of your outposts decreases and zombies no longer appear on the mini map.

    Can't wait.
