Just yesterday I found out that you can choose a specialization for your guys.
That roundhouse kick is the shit.
I have no idea how to do special attacks, and I don't think I've ever needed them... I should look into it though. I think I've only ever spent skill points for like, two people, ever.
You definitely need to specialize! The bonuses are awesome and really useful. For example specializing in revolvers and then maxing revolver skill out gives you +200% damage.

The roundhouse kick replaces the "E" attack.
I use a gamepad, what's the equivalent there? I usually just mash X until the zombie falls down, then LB + Y to execute.

The button you use to kick people around. I'm not sure what that would be. I'm guessing X is your melee weapon attack.

It would be Y. I believe it is only available to characters with the Reflexes skill. The Spin Kick skill is a lifesaver against a hoard. A couple of them will knock the entire hoard on the ground. Also, if you are near a hard vertical surface such as a ledge or a wall, a well placed spin kick will crush their skull when they hit it, resulting in instant kills. I've almost gone exclusively to characters with the Reflexes skill just for the spin kick ability. The only thing I really fear in the game anymore are Ferals.
So I have been looking at gameplay videos for this - is this game as awful looking as it appears? I'm looking at 1080P videos and it really does look like it's still an XBLA game. Was hoping the power of the PC would bring out the best of this thing.

Hmm. I think the game looks real good on PC. My only complaint is that the game has SO MUCH CONTRAST that sometimes it's hard to appreciate how good it looks.
The graphics are just fine. The pre-release PC version had some graphical issues, but they've fixed them as far as I know.

this was made as a live arcade title- understand its not a triple A game. that stated- it looks pretty nice....
OK i have gimped my self for the last time. how the balls do i put people in the rv. I had a murder squad all built up move to 3 and somehow missed them. Its rough.

So does the base game just sort of end? I haven't seen any story quests pop up in quite awhile. I only seem to get the "someone needs help" mini-quests. I think the last thing I did was
Find out that the woman at the truck stop place used to be a prostitute. whoopdee doo. Like that matters any longer
Not sure if I have to do something to trigger more story sections or if I'm bugged or what. Don't really want to go poking around too hard to find the answers because I don't really want to know what's next, just when it's going to start. On the plus side, I have damn near the whole city covered with outposts.

There are missions after that. The main story is driven by:
The military missions. Sgt. Erik Tan to be precise.
Moved into the warehouse last night before logging off. Pretty excited by it!
same.
I f'd myself by advancing to 3 with no one in the rv and it dumped me @ the fair grounds. so i had to ditch my stash and start over on level 2.... im all set to move on now with two towns to loot pre move and a fully safe and upgraded warehouse.
This game is so fun.

It's annoyingly easy to miss. When you choose to move on with the RV, just go through the steps very slowly. What you did was select the option and go through what looks like a confirm box. What you need to do is just press the button once, then go back to playing. At this point, you have the option of talking to people and telling them to get to the RV. Then when you have the people you want, go back and select the RV again to move on.

Ty!
Back on level 3. Fist fighting ferals.
If you get the sweep kick you dont need a weapon - you have ninjitsu. Sweep kick a mess of them down and finisher them all. On top of the fact this chick is a max shot gunner. Come at me dawg.

Fuck those idiots who wander off and get in trouble, it's always that prick Rylan, every fucking time. I wish the notebook told you what outpost was which unless I'm missing something obvious?

The outposts are numbered on the map, just mouse/cursor over them. Then in the notebook, they are in order from left to right on the base upgrade screen.
Figured out what my problem was. I guess the last patch broke the game for a lot of people in the middle of the game. No new missions will show up. I'm not the only one either as I checked the steam forums and a fair number of folks have the same issue. I guess I'll probably shelve the game for awhile then. Don't really feel like starting over a second time. I started over once after one of my better characters got himself killed doing who knows what.
Do I miss anything losing the courthouse? I didn't know it was a time limited thing and they've now all gone.
I think that was scripted. As soon as they called for help, I went to see them, and got a message that Judge Lawson has died, then Sherrif whoever has died. Then a couple no-name people joined me, and the game went on.
Well damn. I think my game bugged. It's been probably a week in game time and no new missions. Just the random "help ally" missions.
I don't think I can fucking restart AGAIN after playing as long as I have. I have 90 in almost all resources... Everything searched and done. I'm so fucking pissed right now.
Looked around and someone mentioned clearing out infestations because they're taking up "mission" spots or whatever. So I cleared out the 6 of them up near the Ranger's station. Then went back to my home and did 11 side missions. Still nothing.
I want my 20 hours back. Would be nice if these fucking devs could make a not-broken game.

How do you get 90 in all resources? Don't you lose a bunch per day?

Made a Greenhouse, upgraded the medical facility (had 90 meds just about the entire game), and fuel was never used.
13 survivors means they eat almost no food, but I also went out and scavenged while I waited for the new mission to show up.
whats the story with this new DLC? The breakdown stuff? I haven't finished the base game yet, really trying to take my time with things. Is it worth getting?

Man, I picked this up during the Live year end sale. Having a blast even if I'm playing it like a Rogue-like (1st death was dying at the hick brothers' place while getting the doctor, 2nd was losing a couple of people after I moved to the warehouse). So I'm looking to start up again and see what's going to be different.
Moving in my second game was a pain though because the Mill was full of houses with food/medicine but no damn building materials.
Also, I noticed the cute little Plants vs Zombies reference in one of the yards too.
I'm hoping the sequel builds on some of the promise of the first game. A more rogue-like variability to the progression/community aspects. Instead of having pockets of simple survivors waiting to die, have viable functioning communities with radiant routines. As your growing your defenses, so too should other communities grow around you, with tensions/trade relationships fostering depending on how you want to play.
Bandits are something that could be improved upon. (Potential story spoilers for newcomers):
I note that the evil family of hicks don't really do much, once you play through their quest line. There's certainly no resolution with them: they just kill that random group of nice people and, erm, that's it...?
Having a more dynamic trigger system, where "If I piss off x community for taking too much/accidentally wounding/making too much noise and attracting zombies, then they give us a warning/declare outright war/pick off our scavengers".
There's a huge amount of potential here. Here's hoping the sequel builds on it.
I'd also like a co-op mode. Not an MMO, which is open to hideous amounts of dumbing down by the very nature of MMOs, but a 2-4 player shared world would be fantastic, and immersive with friends.

I just skimmed it, but it sounds like they are analyzing people's save files, etc. It's a bug, but at least they are actively working on it.

Case in point, no word of a sequel yet, eh?
It's officially unofficial:

There's neat little references scattered all over the game. "Elect Richard Grimes for Sherrif" signs in yards, for example.
