The only real use I see for that Gideon is as a finisher in Control decks with Tamiyo, Martial Law, and board wipes and that sort of thing. But then why wouldn't you just add black and use Obzedat or whatever?
EDIT: And for the record, blue is the best color. Forget counterspells and all that nonsense, I love the quirky stuff blue does like Arcane Melee and combo-y cards like Intruder Alarm.

It's still a four mana 6/6. Some selesnyia decks could just power right through the demon with populate, at least there is nothing your opponent can actually do to this thing outside of removal.

It doesn't really matter if your opponent gains 10 or so life over this guys life as long as you get to kill one or more of his creatures each turn.
At least that would seem to be the argument in its favor. Barring removal he cuts through everything for several turns. Once your opponent runs out of threats the gains he's made in life should disappear quickly.

Shake up doesn't necessarily mean nobody plays those cards anymore.
This card seems built pretty well to make both cards weaker without taking them out of the game completely.
Less decks will play them and I could see siding them out when you play a red deck though.
