I'd much rather it be a Star Trek game. The away missions are the turn-based combat stuff and the "base" is the Enterprise. With different decks of the ship doing different things, and engaging in diplomatic negotations and other standard Starfleet stuff.
In fact, goddamnit do I want that.

Combine it with FTL and we have a drea ticket.
Well now I'll never be happy until that game exists.

I keep thinking the XCOM system would make for a decent Stargate game...
This would be so good.
Why hasn't there been a Stargate game (other than the SNES movie tie-in and the TCG) made to completion? I know there was going to be a squad-based shooter for the original XBox and PS2 and a MMO based on the SG-1 stuff, but they both ended up tanking, which just makes me sad.
Any deals on this, besides it being $5 cheaper on Green Man Gaming?
Honestly, even if tier 3 isn't activated, you'd probably get more trading away the TF2 hats than buying elsewhere
Where do you trade hats?
I was planning on trading them in the TF2 thread to the best offer, which would consist of maybe something on my wishlist? I have no idea how much those hats are worth or how that works.
EDIT: I did just visit a website that indicated that a suitably unusual hat could be worth quite a bit of scratch.

Those hats won't be worth anything besides another genuine or a couple of regulars. Its a highly preordered game, AND the hats will drop like normal if they're anything like all the other preorder hats they've done
So I just went on a really bloody mission on my current X-Com playthrough. Sectoid terror mission. Lost six soldiers, including my two sergeants, but managed to capture both a Sectoid Leader /and/ a Navigator.
On January 19.
Leader interrogation begins immediately after I finish Laser Rifles, I'm thinking.

See, this is why I think South America is a good choice for the base in the new Xcom - instant results from autopsies and interrogations ? Yes, please !
Yeah I would kill a man for a Star Gate game. It could work so well as a tactical shooter. Hopefully some clever person will mod XCOM.
That was my thought. The Geoscape becomes the SGC, you can still do much of the same stuff: research based on acquired tech, manage prisoners, manufacture goods, hire/sack soldiers, form/manage teams, etc. Could probably work in something involving the F302/3.
The battlescape/turn-based stuff comes in when you send a team on a mission.

Hell, it would work great for a SG Team! They're 4 man teams already! Why can't this be a thing too now along with that Star Trek game? Well... I do have Borderlands 2 and Torchlight II to hold me over... some FTL in the downtime... ha

'Ant Farm' becomes the SGC, the Geoscape becomes a Star (gate) Map, The Skyranger becomes the gate itself. Bam, done.

Skip the laser rifles. Hit Cydonia with nothing but regular old bullet rifles. This plan is flawless.

But he has a leader! He can begin the psi research, and allow humanity to take its rightful place as unstoppable psychic overlords of the galaxy!
I can imagine that using starting weapons in xcom isn't toooo bad, considering how powerful explosive rounds can be in the right hands. Using starting armor though... *shudders*

There's actually a TFTD play through where a guy wins the final assault using only starting weapons. It looked... Frustrating.
Same guy did original X-Com under the same conditions.
Video seems to be gone, but it's probably still out there somewhere.
I'm almost positive you mean Guavamoment's videos, and if so, yeah. Viddler's just started wholesale deleting all videos by people without a payed account.
HOWEVER, I just checked his youtube channel, and the UFO defense ones ARE up there.
Bear in mind, he mentions in the video for the final mission of terror from the deep, that he did the UFO defense challenge on beginner difficulty. However, TFTD was on superhuman.
Funnily enough, I only know this because I was watching the TFTD videos earlier.

Listen to me and listen well, maggot. You put your base where you live. Where you actually live, alright? I'm sure the African and South American and North American bonuses look good to me but I live in the UK goddammit, and that's where the base goes. For the same reason my squad are named after my family and for the same reason my shitty boss is first out of the skyranger. It's about emotional connection.
Now I'm sure all you white flag, juice slurpin' communist assholes want to optimize for maximum strategy and maximum efficiency but that's not XCOM. This is a game about crushing failure and frustrating defeat, about endless annoyances and keyboard smashing, flatscreen flingin' pure primal rage. Over and over until your screams are heard in the apartment above and your Facebook status becomes 'fucking chrysallid cunts' repeated fifty times in all caps. But it is all worth it in the end because your pure, blue-blooded patriot bootstraps have managed to cinch up that miserable failure of a squad until they are precision instruments of death.
It's all about the anger, son. And you don't get that by being some kind of left-wing, namby-pamby 'effective leader'. You follow your gut and you stand by your own people. Because when this intergalactic invasion is all sorted out, there's gonna be some drastic redrawing of maps going on and I aint letting any dirty colonial from across the pond get their hands on all that supremely advanced alien weaponry. You got me?

Oh, don't you worry - I'll be throwing squaddies at those alien scumbags with a gleeful disregard for life and limb, don't you worry.
But when Mulder, Scully, X and Skinner head out on a mission, and one of them comes back with a Skyranger full of alien corpses, I want to know I can instantly see what colour their insides are, and what makes them tick.
Then I can send Buffy, Xander, Willow and Angel out to put that knowledge to work !
Plus, I live in Liverpool - putting the base there would mean extra overheads as things constantly go missing. I can't afford to get to a mission only for Xander to realise his rocket launcher has gone 'missing'.

Terror Mission in the UK you actually fight these guys:
I'm unclear as to how much flexibility we have in base placement. The one video I've seen that deals with the subject seemed to suggest that you just choose your starting continent and then the game slaps down your base. In that particular case, right in the middle of the continental US. It's possible I missed a quick keystroke, though. I want control!
