I'm playing Normal Ironman first, then moving up to Classic Ironman, so I'll worry about skipping the tutorial and the base issue on my second run through.
god dammit, I do not have enough time to play all these games...
XCom: EU, MWO, PS2, Civ5, Orcs Must Die 2, ArmA2:CO, Walking Dead, Profit Motive Demo... fuck I need to take a month off of work...
Also:
Teddy Rooseveldt, Ronald Reagan, Andrew Jackson, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Best team ever? or BEST. TEAM. EVER.
And Dishonored.
Now Im going to be singled out like Tycho. I dont really see anything eye catching about Dishonored. I'll probably rent it just to say I played it, but the biggest turn off for me is 1st person swordplay. Heck, unless its a simulation like MWO, PS2 or ArmA (with ArmA I use my TrackIR headset, so it's managable and PS2 *should* have TrackIR) I am starting to dislike 1st person all together. I want to see my guy being a bad ass on the screen. I dont want to just see some wavy swords and disembodied hands a la Skyrim.
I guess Im one of the weird people that "likes" 3rd person shooters because seeing my character onscreen gives me ''peripheral awareness'' of them.

I don't want to derail this thread, but I'm in the same boat.
Wait I can rename soldiers to penny-arcadians if I get the PS3 version right?
Yep. Just have to name soldiers manually since you can't edit the master name's list.
Ahh so you guys are just making a nice edit to the ini and getting new soldiers from the pool you've created.
Nice. I probably should have waited for PC but I was recklessly filling my gamefly queue when I realized that the late summer video game doldrums had ended.

Also Cyberdisks explode when they die, so it would seem like it's either "live" capture or nothin'.
During that Giant Bomb QL, they did find a research upgrade for the Arc Thrower that would allow you to stun and capture a drone...
The logical progression is that there is another upgrade that would allow you to do so to its bigger, fully armed and operational brother.
Not capture, just gain control of until the end of the level. But who knows if you gain anything for taking control like that.
Ah, is that what that upgrade was for? I didn't pause it and look at it closely. I can see that as being an interesting upgrade as it will give the Arc Thrower a wider tool set.
I'm probably going to hate myself for this, but I plan to start off with Classic Ironman. If I don't, I'm just going to savescum my way through the game and that doesn't feel right.
I always just used the Xcom Utility to change the base layout to the better hangers on top version.
Also considering naming my rookies an alpha numeric name till they get rank. Like Alpha-1, or Bravo-1. Then any new rookies replacing others or being added after the previous Alpha-1 either dies or gets promoted gets named Alpha-2 and so on.
Depending on how easy it is to make a custom name list for myself, I hope to seed Hank and Dean Venture into the list. This may possibly lead to multiple Hank and Dean clones, but I'm okay with this. It also means that getting either or both of them is always a possibility regardless of how many times they've died.
Obviously, they will not be using the best equipment or training. XCOM newbie standards must be met.

woo 8 more hours, 9pm pacific why aren't you now!
I think i'm gonna do a normal mode to get the hang of things but at the same time turn on iron man. should be fun
I haven't done a preload before, is the game pretty much completely downloaded or is there likely to be a fair bit still to come?
It's downloaded but basically encrypted, so you will need to "unpack" it which requires significantly less time than downloading it and installing it, and obviously, internet etc.
Almost certainly under 10 minutes all told, unless you have a particularly hefty set of .NET dependencies to install or something. At least, in my experience. YMMV.

The vast, vast majority of the game should be downloaded, they just hold back some small key files. You have to get the files decrypted as well, but that doesn't take long. Once it goes live, the installation process for first-time play will likely be much, much longer than finishing the download, and installations these days take, what, five minutes?

It (and every other game sort of like it) just makes me want a new Tenchu. If ninja moves are going to be pulled, then I want to be a ninja-ass ninja.
And I know Mark of the Ninja is coming soon for Steam...

Neckstab no jutsu!
Edit: Actually, maybe you don't need to. You need to autopsy them, which doesn't require a live specimen. My bad.

The Giant Bomb Quick Look said that they can't be captured in disc form, and they were unable to test capturing one in "attack" mode.
The logical progression is that there is another upgrade that would allow you to do so to its bigger, fully armed and operational brother.

Seriously though. If you could actually manage to nab some drones, that'd make scouting ridiculously safe.
Only problem is the drones don't seem to leave the sides of Cyberdiscs or Sectopods. :P
You want to give me that patch, right? [/sectoidmindcontrol]
Sorry, my Will score is too high. That patch is all mine. Hell, its the entire reason I ordered a physical copy.
It's okay. As the old saying goes, "where mind control fails, plasma succeeds."

Just decryption usually. Though there might be a patch. But other than that, you should be good.
