Did you tender your resignation on the spot?

I'm actually happy about the opportunity because it'll give me a chance to work with our HL7 feed, which is a pretty valuable skill.

And the company I really want to work for (SAS) tends to do Java development, so maybe some more Java experience on my resume can get me past whatever filters they use. Though I think I'd need Python for that too..

The first time you go to create a recursive search function, and don't have anonymous functions to do it with, you won't be so fucking excited

Does anyone have experience getting Command-T to run on vim under Ubuntu? Mine keeps crashing when I try to do <Leader>t

I do ruby extconf.rb, then make. My rvm is set to ruby 1.8.7, and vim --version | grep ruby returns 1.8. Are these not similar enough?

Is remaking it not enough? Should I actually delete the whole folder before making it again?

Yeah we played around with that a bit. I asked them what their benefits were over Mirth.

They had no answers. A more stable product I think was their half-ass. Man what mirth is solid. Their software, though, crashed when they demoed it. Weeee :rotate:

But Mirth is like the worst thing, I hate using it. Fucking Java man. I'm half contemplating writing my own LLP piece in c# because man fuck Mirth.

I cannot get this damn glassfish application to run on this server OR another server. I get the same error and I'm out of ideas. I have used various versions of JRE and JDK. I have tried manually configuring everything; I have tried automatically configuring everything. It is just not fucking going on these servers... But on the Desktops they install fine.

The problem is that I'm not sure what could be the issue: JDK, glassfish, Windows Server 2012, folder permissions, etc...

e: Apparently the software uses H2 SQL too. But I doubt that's the issue... I was able to install another program that we've written onto the server and it was able to load up the database just fine.

unexpected token in your Java or some XML file? Looks like an XML parser issue to me.

That looks suspiciously like a SQL error, but yeah XML is just as likely there.

It's just odd that this exact setup will work on this desktop but not on the server. I followed the instructions exactly.

When you put in yours they will go into a conference room (without you) and talk for a bit. The conversation will go something like this:

"Are we going to walk him out now?"
"We could... but who will move our fans around?"
"You're right. Let's lock the doors and prevent him from leaving."

This is not entirely abnormal at places that require some sort of clearance to work there.

Biggest shit is they probably are going to try and not pay him, which is usually illegal/frowned upon.

Well yes, but that has more to do with Honkey working for the devil, not because that's SOP. I've been escorted out of a job with security clearance when I gave my notice, but I kind of knew it was coming, and they didn't try and screw with my pay. In fact, as my boss was explaining the whole "You know this means we have to...", he made sure to tell me I would get the two weeks paid.

Yup pretty standard in most places.

Then you get that retarded yuppie boss who goes "well you're not working so why should I be forced to pay someone?"

Well douche, they expected to be working for 2 weeks and were nice and didn't leave you out to dry. They could've just kept working and never showed up again.

They don't escort everyone out. A few other guys that I know, that quit, worked their full two weeks without bother.

In other news: Lockheed needs me to submit my most recent pay stub. What I provided them wasn't enough apparently (I went to our HR and asked for a pay stub, and it comes out looking like an excel spreadsheet). So I sent a question to the email asking if there was any other way to prove my employment without having them call my current company... But if there isn't I'm not going to lose sleep over it because they fucked over so many people I don't know why I'm giving them the courtesy.

You don't get a paystub with your check/ACH (Direct Deposit)?

... Do they pay you in cash or something?

Get a copy of the voided check. If they do ACH, you should be getting stubs every pay period.

If questioned by HR, tell them you're applying for credit. An excel spreadsheet is definitely not good enough. Though questioning why lockheed would need that..

Yeah, I wonder why a new possible employer needs your pay stub. I've never been asked by a potential employer to provide proof of anything. They are check my references, or they don't.

They had two options: Contact your employer (for a background check) or I provide a pay stub. I'm looking at the pay stub and not even our company's name/address is located on it. I'm suspecting this is on purpose.

And no we have to ask for our pay stubs if we want them.

That's pretty bullshit. I used to work for a company like yours honky, I can't stress how fast you need to run away. They have an obvious and callous disregard for their employees time and finances.

Speaking of wanting to give two weeks notice. My manager just pulled me aside, apparently one of our support individuals started a nice rumor that I had called them all names in a meeting. I was about ready to let him know I would be leaving the company.

Maybe it's just a washington state thing, but I was under the impression that you have to get stubs for direct deposit. I actually asked our hr guy to just throw them away except the last one of the year, and he said he was legally obligated to give them to me each paycheck.

Yep, I was right. I built it with 1.9.3 the first time, and somehow that kept all later builds from succeeding.

I did a little "rvm use 1.8.7", a little "ruby extconf.rb" and a "make", and command-t works now!

Are you looking at BeautifulSoup or Scrapy(which I think uses BeautifulSoup)? I've done some work with BeautifulSoup and it was amazing. I had a remote office that was supposed to upload an xml file via ftp every minute. Only sometimes someone messes with their setup and they send an html file which has xml embedded in it instead of the plain xml. I was able to use the same code with BeautifulSoup to handle both cases, plus one or two other variations that they also somehow managed to send me once or twice.

That is what I said..... But our HR department didn't have anything like that. I'd have to ask the COO and I'd rather not lie to her face... I'm better than her.

Sometimes, honky, I just dunno man. Your company is fucking you in the ass, hard. They won't give you a fucking official pay-stub. This is simply unacceptable. You owe them diddily shit; they don't cut you breaks, and they under-pay you. I'm sure you would rather not lie. How about "I'm in the middle of an application-process for some financial stuff* and I need an official pay-stub from the company with the company's name, etc on it. All HR can give me is what looks like an Excel spreadsheet and that's unacceptable. Can you help?"

    * A better-paying job is a financial thing. So, nyah!
