The only fair part of FTL is the tutorial.

How is it not fair? Everyone dies alone in the void.

Come on, that's not true. Sometimes they die together.

Because that was possibly the 10 minutes of skeeziest television I have ever watched, and I've seen 3 seasons of Survivor.

Wow, so uh, watched the first episode of season one of Game of Thrones and.

    Yeah that's a thing.

    A rapey, incesty, child-murderey thing.

I don't care how many emmys it's won, if it doesn't start getting less intentionally, beat-you-over-the-head vile, I will probably not subject myself to any more of it.

I can just tell you now that you should stop watching the show right now then.

Thanks. I had heard complaints that Martin used rape as a plot device overmuch, but heard nothing but praise for the show. It's beyond dark and there was really nothing in the episode that was compelling, other than I guess as horror.

Maybe I'm just drawing a complete blank but I can only remember one instance of rape/the possibility of rape occurring so far in two seasons, so don't get put off it just by that. I think it gets better, as it uses the childmurdery bit to set off all the throne-pursuing intrigue

I wouldn't stop after just the first episode, but if you found literally nothing about the story compelling it might not be a good fit for you

I don't necessarily mind dark and depressing. But I don't think I like to feel dirty from a television show. There were definitely some parts of Spartacus that made me feel like that, but it wasn't the focus of the program. This felt like it was the focus.

I don't know any scripting, unfortunately.

Really the change needs to be made by the developers of our software, on the software that's automatically stripping a necessary piece of information (as a "benefit"; they scripted it that way on purpose), which I am forced to manually re-enter on every order that has it stripped.

    Yes, golden.
the joke that I'm making is actually the opposite though. aside from a few instances (crown for king), the show really isn't about retribution at all. The whole series systematically denies the viewer retribution over and over, stringing us along with increasingly meager scraps. It's cruel and I love it.

I haven't felt like the dirty/skeevy stuff was the focus, although it always feels like the sexual scenes last a few seconds too long before cutting away.

None of that is true. The books have people being as young as they would have been in medieval times. So 13-year-olds can get married. That's it.

There is a princess who has an arranged marriage, is unhappy about the sex, but eventually they fall in love with each other. There are also people who have had arranged marriages who hate the other person and end up trying to kill them. Again, trying to look at historical arranged marriages realistically.

The prudish criticism I hear about AGOT really reflects badly on the people writing it, rather than GRRM.

It doesn't like, glamorize rape, or anything. I mean it was a very uncomfortable scene. I can explain in a little more detail how their whole marriage goes, if you want, but it'd spoil it for you, if you ever think you'll end up watching it.
