Man, is it just me or do Glamours get all the love in terms of Mesmer Traits?
Want to load up on Signets? Three traits, which give you... distortion and cure one condition any time you use a Signet, plus better recharges.
Manipulations? Two traits, the token recharge reducer and one that makes them usable at longer range.
Glamours? You can reduce their recharge time, extend their duration, make them Confuse anyone who enters or exits, Blind people who enter them, and put another stack of Confusion on them if you take the thing that adds Confusion on Blind. And since they're already AoE skills, all that traited goodness just gets better the more people you have involved.
Try a scepter necro.
You get ONE. 1. Uno. Just one.
Scepter trait.
and it's not even 20% cooldown reduction.
In fact, it's the only weapon necros can use that DOESN'T get a 20% reduction.
WvW was fun last night. Not many of us, but still fun. MaGOONba has been talking rather confidently about things in the official forums, about how they are out numbered and when its an even fight their tactics win. Well this has been true in the case of the single supply depot in a cave, they do indeed hold it for a long time with like 15 ballista aimed at a door.
Last night though, they got cocky and claimed the last tower and keep in the southeast of our borderlands was the "Alamo" and that we would never take it. They put up a fight... and by fight I mean 50 people on arrow carts in the keep lords room. We did wipe once but had a mesmer portal still up and then enough warriors (myself included) pushed in with endure pain and fear bombed them. So they had to eat their words there.
Then at least 3 different MaGOONba guilds piled up on champions supply camp (very south one). There was literally 3 of us, and I dunno 40 of them. They had some siege. We manged to have maybe 8 more PUGs help us, but due to over reliance on their siege and hit-n-run tactics we eventually cleaned them out. Their final stand was absolutely hilarious. 100% of them piled on top of the supply point and spammed AOEs and AOE heals. It was a total failure, because @Dysprosius threw down feedback and I feared/earthquaked the spot, they refused to move from that spot... so we just did damage, then retreated to heal a few times. Really, their zerg tactics don't work, I only really felt like bragging about it due to their statements in the official forum about "being out numbered and having better tactics".
I kept blowing stability and endure pain to get a kill shot + burst at a piece of siege equipment while they tried to burst me down, I think I killed five or so ballistas over 20 minutes since it was right next to a waypoint
Then when we finally went in there, my god, so much bloooooood. I have to say a rifle is so great for wuvwuv anything except keep assaults
BTW, their "new" tactic is building shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitloads of flame rams at a supply camp, and then they just wait around to get people in the #2 flame skill of it. I think they mix in ballista and arrow carts too.
It works fine, and its hard to take, because the rams flame defends the ranged sieged. But ummm it takes like 20-30 people to really fortify and man it all.... and that many people not moving around the map taking stuff is just hurting their overall score. I think thats one of the reasons they are losing so badly this week, they love to defend and waste way to much manpower on it so they rarely have a strong attacking force.
edit: I think for the meta to really develop, their needs to be a point increase in defending.... maybe through an upgrade, but make it really timely to achieve. So like, if you fully upgrade a keep you can then get extra points per tick for it. Cause right now its more points to just take as much stuff as possible before the point tick, and then if it gets retaken try and get it back before the next. Upgrades are ok, but also a waste in the long run, since night cappers are going to take it anyway. I personally think there should be a lockout period if you really upgrade something... not super long, but like a few hours and at a price. That way you can take something, defend it for a long time and upgrade it fully, then that defense actually pays off since you get like 2 hours of lockout on that keep and night cappers can still take it later.
Any improvement on the player invisibility issue? It's kept me out of WvW for the past 48 hours -- too frustrating.
To hard to say right now, it seems to not be an issue all the time. Like when there were at least 40 goons at the south supply camp I was able to see them all. I did test what Klyka said about turning off high res textures, and it did absolutely nothing other than.... well cause high res textures not to load, which is what I expected since 99% of things point to this being a server issue.
Hopefully a patch hits before friday for it... or maybe it really is just some settings on their end that need tweaked.
I'm hoping a patch hits just so it unbuggers some of the events. Like half of Fields of Ruin.

Re: The Culling™, I'm bouncing between GW2, WoW and Borderlands 2 at the moment so I've not been logged in as often/long as I was a bit ago, but I am absolutely not leaving the game. I've just been enjoying it at a slower pace. With regard to participation, I'm really not into PvP (did WvW enough to get the requisite 50 kills for the monthly achievement and absolutely didn't care for it) and while I would love to do the dungeons, I've heard enough about how brutal they are to want to stay away for a bit, at least until I'm better geared. However I have and still do participate in many group events with and try to help out other NICE folks whenever I see them around. Mostly though I have enjoyed just chatting with folks and having a information resource in case I have questions, which I usually do.
All that said, I'll happily step out for another, more active player if the guild needs it. Account is Necrys.5820. Thanks very much for having me.
But it's also the best necro weapon (aside from staff)
Staff / sceptre necro is so fun.
I normally run axe plus dagger/focus. Am I Doing It Wrong (tm)?
Edit: and staff, of course.
Not at all. Axe/anything is the less glass-cannon power build for the necro than dagger/dagger. You get to keep your distance, have an AoE cripple which generates retaliation for you and axe 2 is a very quick way to fain LF. Go 30 in spite to get the axe trait and the only way you'll do more damage is going full dagger/dagger glass cannon.
It's just that laying down 10+ stacks of bleed on a dude then spreading it to all its friends and seeing NUMBAHS ERRYWHERE is... pretty satisfying.
I have a habit of doing escort events and then staying in the new area and then wondering why I'm getting killed so easily while fighting 3 or so mobs +3 my level including veterans.
I'm looking at the GW2 wiki and reading on necro abilities. It sounds like they're set up to get conditions on themselves and then spread it to mobs... Am I reading this correctly?
It amazes me that there are people who don't type while autorunning.
It's rather difficult when auto-run isn't bound to any buttons. (R=8)
NumLock.
It's always NumLock. It has been since AC. Every MMO has had autorun, and it's bound by default to NumLock.
CoX used R.
I find all the different summon types for Mesmers confusing and the game doesn't really go out of its way to explain them (I had to manually go across all my skills to even find out what the heck the Shatter the utilities talk about is). So far I've seen powers talk of illusions, clones and phantoms... is illusions just a catch-all for clones and phantoms?
Yup! Clones are the lookalikes that don't do much damage (though some do apply conditions), phantasms are the spectral looking guys that do a single attack every once in a while, and both types are considered illusions.
Man, is it just me or do Glamours get all the love in terms of Mesmer Traits?

I think there is usually only one trait per weapon, so that doesn't seem too odd. Though speaking of necromancer stuff that only gets one trait, the Corruption line of utility skills is equally barren, with only a cooldown reduction trait. Heck, Spectral only gets two. Certainly looks a bit shallow compared to the eight Minion related traits (nine if you count Reanimator).
But it's also the best necro weapon (aside from staff)

I'm not going to tell you to play a different way. I will say I found axe and dagger on necro isanely boring.
Stacking / manipulating/ spreading conditions with the staff and sceptre (focus?) I found to be not only more powerful, but more fun and engaging as well.
If you haven't tried it, I would recommend trying it and see if you like it. If you are happy with axe though, I'm not going to tell you to do something different.
So something I've noticed about the special edition of the game.
Every character you create gets a 5 day golem banker. The banker appears to be account-bound. Seems like you can basically create and delete an alt every 5 days to get unlimited access to your bank. You do have to do that opening sequence on every character I think though.

I noticed that as well. If there wasn't already bank access pretty much everywhere, or just a short waypoint teleport away that may actually be worth the time, as it is though I've never really felt like it was difficult to get access to my bank in a pretty convenient fashion.

http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA has predictive listings. It looks like we have a chance to be blue on Friday! It really depends on how Tarnished Coast does in their match. Based on current socres, we are only about 2-1/2 GLICKO points up on them, so that could swing either way.
It's a pretty solid lock on the matchup though: Blackgate, Fort Aspenwood and Tarnished Coast.
Interesting. Since we'll be fighting SoS again, I wonder if there'll be a repeat with Tarnished Coast turning into this week's Maguuma, or will we become the Maguuma?
Last night though, they got cocky and claimed the last tower and keep in the southeast of our borderlands was the "Alamo" and that we would never take it.
These guys realize that every defender of the Alamo was killed, down to the very last man, right?
I bet we'll do better against Blackgate this time, and dunno anything about Tarnished Coast. Tonight'll probably be a Dishonored night for me, then back in on Friday.

Maybe... from what they say on the official forums now is that FA is a zerging hacking server, but they out skill us. So their Alamo meant they knew they would die eventually? Who knows, they seem pretty pissed if you even comment about their tactics on the forum.
I'm looking at the GW2 wiki and reading on necro abilities. It sounds like they're set up to get conditions on themselves and then spread it to mobs... Am I reading this correctly?
They have a set of skills ("Corruption") that do that, yes. But they can also do stuff with conditions on the mob or on themselves (heal themselves, spread conditions around, draw them from allies, etc)
Necros have alot of conditions and alot of ways to manipulate conditions and then they also have minions.
Alot of Condition builds are centred around applying a bunch of conditions to a mob and then spreading them around to all the other mobs and then eating the conditions this gives to you.
Personally, I go Ockham's razor in these situations.
They are kinda digging themselves a hole right now. I pointed out that their activity of camping a supply with siege and ALL their zerg means that people who want to actually WvW and take stuff are unable to and thats why they feel they are underpopulated. Someone replied, but right after a person from their own server confirmed what I said:
I intially just told them, having their entire forces in a single spot is why they are losing, period. But they only want to complain that they are underpopulated and we hack.

The minute guilds go from a bunch of like minded folks there to have a good time to serious business is the minute things start to fall apart.

WElllllll...
Necros excel in condition damage. Axe and dagger mainhand have about 0 condition skills. Focus offhand has 0 condition skills.
Scepter/dagger and staff both have craptons of condition damage skills. It's a different playstyle than dagger or axe, but it's terribly effective.
