My father in law has played hundreds of hours of Civ IV, and I was thinking of convincing him to make a steam account so I could give him the Civ V copy that comes with XCOM, but I don't want to waste it if it likely won't run well enough to be playable.
I think you have to buy something before you can be gifted something. Or maybe your account needs to be old or something. I forget, but when I tried to gift my sister Amnesia Steam wouldnt let me (which, really, turned out to be a good thing since her laptop cant run it, and you know, it might kill her).
I believe limited accounts only prevent you from starting chat sessions and sending friend invites. This is done to prevent spammers from creating hundreds of accounts for phishing and scamming purposes. I don't think Gaben would prevent you from gifting a game to a friend you just introduced to Steam.

The best gun in FEAR is clearly the shotgun. They are all great but that shotgun is the poster child super model of shotguns.
FEAR has the all-round best guns in any FPS I've ever played.
Shotgun, nailgun, dual pistols, the rocket launcher, repeating cannon. The grenades...
All so brutal, all so awesome.
I liked FEAR's guns, but there was a weird thing they did with the SMG and Assault Rifle that just annoyed me. Basically the sound effect for the gun isn't synced up with individual bullets (and in fact, even if you do manage to shoot single bullets, you'll still hear an "automatic" sound as if you've shot a burst). It just made those guns feel floaty and annoyed me every time I fired them because the sound didn't match what was actually happening with the weapon, bullets would be firing slightly out of sync with the sound effects (or not at all). Not as noticeable with the SMG, but you could clearly tell it with the AR.
I will say that FEAR 3 fixed this in spades because whilst the G3A3 can only burst fire anyway, it sounds like freaking hurricane.

Also, say what you will about RAGE, but it had a shotgun worthy to inherit the crown from FEAR's.
I love the time I've spent with Rage. Load that shotty up with some Pop Rockets and go to town. It's a really meaty and well done shotgun, even with standard loads. Definitely worthy of Id.

Hmm. Both Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai are discounted at -75% for the daily deal even though it doesn't show up on the Total War Sale page. Just a heads up.

Good thing you never need those guns. I've played through the entire game not using the assault rifle once. Played just fine, and was just as awesome.

Looks like Prison Architect is available for purchase, with early alpha access. They have their own Kickstarter like thing going.
Arcen have announced A Valley Without Wind 2, and if you have the first game you'll get it for free. The big change is the much maligned artstyle, as well as a City Management meta game.
I knew Arcen was awesome because of AI War, but now that we're getting a sequel to AVWW, with non-Windows-Screensaver art, AND we are getting it for free if we bought the first one...
All previous owners will be getting a Steam key when it's released, too.
I think I have that from a Humble Bundle and only ever checked it out briefly.
Yeah, I checked it out and had no clue what was going on it. I think maybe I stumbled into the level editor instead of the campaign or something? Like even the menus in that game gave me trouble.
