I have also received a Steam Key for Anamoly from @rikdaly and a MYSTERY KEY from @DoctorArch which I can't redeem until I get home from work in about ten hours.
Thanks to @an_alt for the Alan Wake pack. Given my usual reaction to horror/suspense games, I'll likely be spending some nights not sleeping while I sit downstairs with the lights on when I play it.

Woke up today feeling like I needed to smash the fuck out of some dude's skull with a tire iron and brain his buddy on a refrigerator. Turns out this is because @Lord_Snot sent me Hotline Miami! Time to snort some coke and do this right, thanks duder!
Not only is Crusader Kings 2 an excellent game, but it's been patched really well since I last played it. A lot of really useful tooltips have been added for when you're new to the game, a lot of quality of life improvements have been added to make things that should be simple, simple. Intrigue and ambitions are more interesting, which improves the character of these people. Assassination could still use a rework, but just about everything else is greatly improved.

I had a moment as Dogmeat and I left the subway. We snuck up the stairs and found two super mutant brutes with vindicators in a firefight with raider, one of whom was fruitlessly trying to kill the brutes with a grenade pistol.
With moments like this, I will be lucky to test, much less start New Vegas and skyrim, or finish Mafia II.
GUYS....I had a nightmare last night that Steam decided to have a week-long halloween sale. I dont think my wallet could handle that. Please tell me its just a dream...

So far Killing Floor and L4D are on sale, but it isn't as widespread as some of their previous Halloween sales.
If they have anything, I suspect it'll start Monday or Tuesday, if they have one at all, of course.
Edit: that said, their Team Fortress 2 halloween event just started up yesterday or today or so.

Winner of the "asked for something other than Alan Wake" category is @cardboard delusions who wins the F3:NV everything pack.
This is a nightmarish tale via my girlfriend, not that I don't have any fears, but I hardly remember my dreams and she does (which is a constant source of entertainment for me). To preface, my girlfriend is scared of going down stairs and ET. Stairs, she has to overcome, because literally we are faced with them everyday. She fell down a flight once and hurt herself pretty bad (which is not funny) but now, is always super cautious. ET, not sure where this stems from, but she is crippled by the mention or sight of him. She is especially freaked out by the image of his neck stretching and the noise he makes.
Last week we were drinking at her friend's apt and she lives on the 5th floor of an NYC walk-up. We got a little high and when we were leaving, I was 'enlightened' to the idea of combining her two greatest fears. I only pondered the question, and asked what she would do if she was faced with them in this scenario since we were looking at going down a tremendous flight of stairs. That night she had the most torturous dream and kicked the shit out of me. She woke me to recount that she envisioned running down that staircase from earlier, but she slipped and fell and tumbled for what felt like forever while being chased with ET and his extended neck screaming the whole time. When I say irrational, I mean she literally cannot function or move, so I had to spend the rest of the early morning talking about penguins and ponies and magical places where ET and stairs don't exist.
Winner of the fiction category is @MOVE IT WITH BUNMASTER!!! who wins nothing due to owning over 700 games and a wishlist that doesn't line up with my inventory.
I shift uncomfortably from foot to foot, glancing down at the slip of paper in my hand: thirty-six. The usual traffic of the entrance is somewhat more congested today. Passers-by hesitate midstride to gawk, at the red balloons, at the red bags, at the figures flitting from chair to chair, before they regain their stride and speed toward the elevator bank. A few slow, stop, and amble to the table, covered in forms, behind which something resembling a woman smiles widely and blankly. The banner overhead, stretched from column to column across the width of the lobby, roars its message: blood drive.
I vaguely remember the paperwork. It was all the usual things: how old was I? Was I healthy? Was I sure I was healthy? Have I engaged in sexual relations with members of my own sex? How indelible are the stains upon my soul? I feel my brow creasing. Were those usual questions? The concern fades as my number is called.
The chair looms.
I sit. "Make yourself comfortable," the shadow darting around my vision whispers, and I immediately become incredibly uncomfortable. "Let's see," the sibilant voice continues. "Ah! It's you."
Me?
"Number thirty-six. You're giving all your blood, yes?"
Am I? I squint at the paper as it is snapped in front of my face. Oh. So I am. I don't recall writing that, specifically, but there it is. Why did I do that? Isn't that unsafe?
"Oh, you're a doctor?"
Er, no.
"Well, then."
I nod, satisfied with that logic yet unable to shake the sensation of something deep within my mind screeching in alarm.
The shadow is continuing to zip about, while next to the chair a contrivance of sharp metal and twisted piping gradually rises. "There's a special t-shirt for giving all your blood," the voice mentions. "It's nice."
That sounds good. I grin as, beside the chair, the machine begins bearing down toward me, whirring louder, louder, louder.
The prize for best traditional nightmare goes to @testsubject23 who wins Ys Origins.
When I was a kid, I would have incredibly vivid dreams and nightmares, and would frequently sleepwalk. Sometimes I'd appear to be awake, but wouldn't know who I was or who my family members were, and would babble nonsense or talk about insensible/unknown things. (This is pertinent to the later details of the story.)
As a child, I was fond of this stop-motion animated TV show featuring a red and white stuffed bear who had a machine that could turn into just about anything - different configurations for different situations. I don't remember the name of the show, but I THINK this show was real - I remember watching it on TV a lot, so hopefully that part wasn't a dream too (though it's entirely possible it was all in my head).
In the dream, I had that machine, or maybe I was the bear from the show. Anyway, the dream started out fine - we made the machine be a car and drove it around for a while (I don't remember who was with me but I did have a companion). Things were dream-normal.
Then I found myself in a dark forest. The trees were close, but tall, so you could see fairly well without undergrowth because of the high canopy, but it was oddly still and somehow disturbing.
It was night in the forest, and we came to a clearing and stopped there. Suddenly my companion announced in a hushed, terrified tone that "the hunt was coming". Despite not knowing what the hunt was, I knew (as you do in dreams) that this was a Bad Thing, and a wash of fear came over me. For some reason, the only thing I could think of to do was to change the machine into a tower in the middle of the clearing. We hid at the top of the tower, while a procession of deer came into the clearing, and started running in a circle, in orderly single-file, around the tower. To my dream self, these deer were terrifying. The beating of their hooves in the dark was somehow awful and unnatural, and it was clear that if we weren't in the tower, we'd be in trouble somehow.
Then a man came into the clearing. His face was covered in a mask that had antlers attached to it. He walked up to the circle of running deer, and produced a long blade from somewhere, which he stuck out at neck level to the deer. They ran on, past where the man stood, and as they ran past the blade their heads were struck off, but the bodies of the deer ran onward, so that after a while there were a pile of decapitated deer heads near the man, and a circle of running, headless deer surrounding my tower.
Absolute horror is the best way to describe my emotional state, at that point. I was just a child, after all, and had never seen anything decapitated before, let alone survive it to continue on in some mockery of death.
Then the man *looked up at me*, right into my eyes, and it was like he saw into me. It felt like a violation, cold and menacing. Then I woke up.
I woke up in the hallway of our house, just outside the walk-in closet. My mother was holding me with a fearful look on her face. I was still scared, but mostly relieved to be away from the dream, so I let her put me back to sleep in my room. The next morning she told me she had found me inside the walk-in closet, rummaging through things and apparently trying to get toward the back of the closet. She tried to get my attention, but I wouldn't look at her, and when she asked why I told her it was because there were spiders on her face. Eventually, for lack of other options, she grabbed me, at which point I started failing my limbs and screaming, and then woke up.
To this day I have absolutely no memory of being in that closet, and I have no idea why I dreamed of this, but it still freaks me out to think about it. It was YEARS before I was able to get the image of those deer out of my brain.
To my adult mind, decades later, the dream reminds me of the myths of Hern and the Wild Hunt, but as a child I had no idea about these things. I don't even think I'd seen a deer before, apart from pictures. Even at the time I had no idea where such disturbing images had come from. Much of my dreaming as a kid was like that - as adults we can rationalize our dreams as reflections of our current inner state, but to dream of things as a child, things you haven't ever encountered, or even conceived of before, was really really strange, even at the time.
Finally, the grand prize winner of an all expenses paid trip to Alan Wake's package is @shdwcaster:
Until a month ago, I have never had a recurring dream, at least not that I can remember, much less a recurring nightmare. I should also add that my wife and I have four children, the youngest of whom is 18 months old, and do not plan on having more.
So while not a nightmare in the "Oogy-Boogy" sense, waking up out of a deep sleep because in my dream, my wife rolled over, looked at me and said "Guess what, Honey, I'm pregnant again!" has been far more terrifying than any other nightmare I've ever had.
Thank you to everyone who entered. Prizes and friend requests will be sent out shortly.
I knew I could cash in on my girlfriend's irrational fears one day!
I'm not really sure how to set up one of those giveaways, but I have a Steam code for Bioshock 2 that I'd like an interested fellow PAer to have. PM me with your favorite Lovecraft story (oh why not it's Halloween) and I'll pick a winner.
Does anyone know why Anno 1404 isn't purchasable anymore?
Because Ubisoft is stupid. Apparently they decided that they did not want to have parity between the retail and the digital download version patches, so it got pulled from Steam.

Unfortunately you can't. But don't worry about it, it's very hard to find anyone that doesn't already own BoD or CSTW around here.

Ubisoft didn't/wouldn't give Steam the latest patch files, so Valve dropped the game from their store.
And, yes, I agree. it is a very, very stupid situation.

Well fuck me, I came in here to do an Alan Wake giveaway and see that one's already been done. Well, that's fine with me I suppose, I'm still going to go ahead and do mine. Giving away one copy of the Alan Wake Franchise Pack (including Alan Wake, Alan Wake Collector's Edition Extras, and Alan Wake's American Nightmare). In the spirit of Alan Wake, all you have to do to win is write me a short horror story of your own creation.
Further contests will be incoming shortly.

I feel bad that I don't post in this thread more often. My current living situation makes it weird to steam sometimes though. i'm bridging wifi from my laptop to my desktop from a router across the house that barely reaches and if anyone else uses the internet I'm screwed. When online does reach here I play guild wars pretty frequently atm.
Thank god offline mode actually works now though.
plus moving here meant giving up the job so no new release hype.
On the plus side though I have been slowly working through some single player games in my list (almost done with spec ops. the last few chapters have been crazy. I'm on 12 or 13 now and set it aside after getting really mad at repeatedly dying to the same section

@Kalia is so classy, she gifted me a Bundle in a Royal way.
I am excite to check out Pathologic. The whole thing seems to be a lot of fun, as usual really. I've been looking forward to checking out Home too.
@Zebukiel hit me with L4D2 earlier as well. I'm going to be buried up to my brains in spooky fun stuff thanks to you guys.
Not to mention @Big Isy hitting me with a classy gift of Jet Set Radio with a jaunty salutation of Eid Mubarak. You guys are too good to me.
I can only speak to cryostasis being good and pretty frightening.
and I just beat spec ops. Holy hell. I have no words. I caught on to one detail of the ending from a detail in the previous chapter but I didn't expect the full extent of that ending. and then that post credits. Wow.
Posting again for the new page, anyone from a country other than Australia who has a $5 game they want? Will trade for an uncensored L4D2. Friend of mine is getting into gaming and we're trying to get him set up with some good coop stuff.

Not really. I think it's about the theme, and I think S3 is closest to "Halloween fright", by far, than S1.
