I hope to hell that the media can find their fucking balls and actually talk about how fundamentally romney lied, instead of pulling false equivalence shit.
it implies that Mitt Romney put forth positions incongruous to his actual positions
he may or may not have, because we don't know what his actual economic plan is besides "fix the economy"
Well "lies" is a perfectly accurate word when applied to the 'facts' he used, seeing as they were incongruous with reality.
Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. - Lincoln
I just loved how everyone was expecting Obama to win over Romney.
This debate will go down in history, today is the beginning of the end for the Obama administration.
John Kerry was at least partly perceived to have won his first debate against Bush. How was the Kerry Administration for you?
Only this time it is an overwhelmingly unanimous opinion from the media that Romney devastated Obama's policies.
And the media always reflect either reality or the voters' opinions. It's not like they have a vested interest in trying to sex up the story of this election so more people will pay attention to them or anything.

Dbrock just how big of a difference do you think the debates actually make on average for an election?

Romney played the debate pretty darn well. I felt like he controlled the narrative the entire night and kept to his strong suits. The question is how much will he gain in the polls from it.
538 is showing a bump already this morning, but he's got a long way to go to win the electoral.
Romney "won" because he spoke faster and louder while bending more of the questions to his script.
Obama's performance didn't do him any favors. I think part of why Romney kept hammering on the alleged Medicare cut was because Obama failed to rebut the charge.
I think Romney's performance felt like it was for short term gain. To some it sounded commanding and presidential - though to me he sounded arrogant and disrespectful for riding roughshod over the moderator - but there will be some who actually read his words and process what they mean, and that could potentially be damaging.
That CNN comment about finding out the real winner by turning off the sound gave me a sad - what's the point of debating if you don't listen to what they say?
I want to think that Obama let him have that one. Maybe it was to give Romney the stage to make a fool of himself, maybe it was to lull him into this false sense of confidence, I dunno. I'm guessing we'll see a different and more aggressive debater at the next one.
But more importantly, I'm looking forward to the flaming chainsaw battle that's gonna be the VP debate.
Feel free to wrap yourself in the warm blanket of "the media is only favoring Romney's debate performance because it helps their narrative"
their narrative for four months has been Romney is a buffoon, why change it?
The media blows everything out of proportion but ultimately there is a grain of truth under it all
Romney won almost unanimously among pundits
As far as "can a debate swinging an election", I'm confident Nate Silver will tell us by 3PM today
Maybe if y'all were voting immediately after this debate Romney would have a shot. There will be time to reflect on the details however. Already there are links to some of the lies he spewed. This isn't a snap decision, there is more to consider than a guy who can't wait his turn.
we thought we had this one in the bag but now we don't any more
obama should be more forceful next time around and just maybe bring up the fact that this is a presidential candidate who thinks 47% of the country are lazy and worthless

just maybe squeeze that one in somewhere
could be helpful
Obama missed tons of opportunities to substantially attack Romney
It was the posture of a man who thinks he has already won

Talking about how it was a legendary debate that will be "remembered for years to come"
There was a point towards the end where his expression was pretty much identical to that smug smiley.
just looking at that smug face I felt like Obama's arguments were worse for no real reason

well it won't. So NOW WHAT?
