I had to make a little run to Safeway to pick up some stuff like bread & juice.

Because before all we had was alcohol.

    Just beer and liquor...

I don't see why you needed the bread, you already had liquid fiber in the beer!

Going to spend this next year in shitty apartment saving money so I can buy a nicer place after that. **
** Assuming I still draw breath. I'm just going to operate under the theory I will be alive in 2014.

Actually bargain shopping for a place to live feels weird and alien. I don't like it.

Oh I read that at work and was gonna reply now, but ok. Hope it all works out, anyway.

... I finally got most of the boxes unpacked from my apartment? Spare room and entrance hall are still a junk heap but the rest is almost looking ok. Still need a carpet in the living room and a paint job basically everywhere.

Ah, I got rid of it cause I solved it. The issue was a new friend I hardly know wanted to move in with me, I do not with her for those who didn't see. I told her I wasn't too sure about things and it was all up in the air at the moment for me about when I'd be moving cause work busy periods pick up for me soon! She said she was in no rush but it was okay if it wouldn't work for me. Awkward! What would you have done, Tynic?

Err, its beautiful Tynic!!! It looks so cosy and nice :D Are you feeling more settled now everythings unpacked?

Little bit! But I've got to head off to Australia for maybe up to three months on Sunday, so I've been spending the last couple of weeks trying to sort out paying bills and stuff while I'm gone.

I'm not sure what I would have done - I've lived with friends and it's worked, and friends where it hasn't. I think cohabitation either draws you very close together, or ends up putting barriers between you as you try to negotiate boundaries, etc. The latter is more likely, and so in general I wouldn't room with a friend for a long period unless I knew them very well and had a very good feeling about it, or I didn't much care if we stayed friends or whatnot. So yeah if you can bow out gracefully it might be an option to try.

Three months? How come...? I think your place looks lovely, the kinda place I'd love!

Oh phew, I think I did the right thing then! I've just heard bad things about it so I'm glad I was able to. At least this time round when I look for somewhere new I've no deadline and I can take my time waiting for something good to come up.

Because its England and apparently here it's barbaric to wash your clothes anywhere except for the food preparation area.

A few of my apartments had the washer/dryer in a press but everywhere else I've been has them in the kitchen because it has easier access to the water.

It's never been strange to me?

Do you have to fill your laundry with water by hand? Because otherwise this isn't making any more sense to me.

    Where else would it go?

It has a window so you can watch it go round and round and round.

  • DruhimDruhim Registered User, ClubPA regular
It would go someplace more out of the way than the kitchen, like in a hall closet.

Bathroom is quite common, if you don't have a stand alone laundry room. Britain is the only place I've been that regularly whacks a clothes washer in the kitchen, although I realise that here it is standard practice.

I think you are forgetting that a lot of UK houses are limited to space issues, we don't really do laundry rooms etc.

I dunno, it just makes sense to me to have them there. Easier access on the ground floor and near the back door when installing them.

Maybe I'm just PG tips addled like you say though!!

But when you say 'live in the next four months' do you mean stay for a while, or live-live?
Cause unless you wanna teach English for a bit, getting a job overseas might not be too breezy.

Basically putting the laundry in the kitchen just feels like a bad consolation prize for not getting a dishwasher.

    belruelotterav-1.jpg

All the washing machines I've seen here in Amsterdam have been in the kitchen. Wait that's a lie, one actually had it's own room, which was really super bizarre and the entire apartment had a terrible layout so that ones a bad example.

It seems to be a space thing.

Either I suppose, I can write from anywhere

I have dreams of fleeing the states but I like my friends and speak English so I'll honestly prob wind up in San Francisco or NYC
