I have been playing Wii Tennis with my room mate. We are both around ~1200 rating. We keep facing 2000/1900 teams (computer controlled) and our ratings are not going up at all. But if we LOSE a singles match, we go up by 70 points.
This system is better when playing with others, but I can't improve my ratings if I play with someone? Ideas? Questions? Comments?
Your rating will go up if you absolutely dominate that team. My roommate and I have over 2000 point tennis ratings and we practically have to shut out the other team in 3 and 5 set play. Literally they cannot get over 30 points for a 3 game set.
Right now I'm at around 1200, too, but a friend of mine is over 2000 (it's funny because it shoots outside of the chart ). Yeah, you have to really wreck the shit out of the other team in order to gain points.
I'm not sure how it calculates point increases in singles vs. doubles; I think it's directly tied to the specific player's performance. I think that when you play doubles, because you're hitting fewer winning shots, your ranking doesn't go up as high.
Similiar question regarding bowling. I think my best score is a 206, and I've only recently become a pro. But now I'm going back and forth over and under 1000. My usual bowling game is around 140-170, and the 200's I've done seem like total luck. But I still want to improve my rating.
What do I have to bowl to keep my rating going higher?
And is there a way to play against a CPU in bowling?
Playing against a CPU in bowling wouldn't help, because technically you're still playing the same game. Having an opponent doesn't really make a difference to your score.
I'm sure that you can't earn points in Tennis when playing with another person, whether they're on your team or not.

Nope. I've gained almost all of my points solely through playing doubles with my wife and me on one team. If you're playing against another person, though, I don't think your ranking changes.
Wow. I can barely get my score above 1000 for my score. Any tips beyond the standard stuff (e.g. quick swerves, trying to return the ball where it's hard to reach)?

I suck at Wii Tennis. I got past 1,000 but that's about it. Like, I see all kinds of openings to get a point, but I can never get my character to hit the ball in that direction.
Like, I'll be wanting to hit to the left so it bounces way past the area they can hit it, but I always hit it back into the area where they already are. It's very annoying.

It's all about timing. Assuming you're a righty, if you hit the ball early it goes to the left, and if you hit it late it goes to the right. It's just like baseball. Reverse if you're a lefty.

Use the guy up front most of the time. If they keep hitting it so that you have to back-hand it, give them a really really light lob. Both characters will go after it, and they'll probably botch the return a little. If you're quick enough, you'll have a chance to hit it where they're not.
Also, if your front guy can't get it, always wait for the bounce. Nothing sucks worse than losing out on a point because you returned an out-of-bounds ball.
You kinda get a bonus in Tennis. The gallery watching you play gets larger. That's about it. No where near as cool as the [PRO] ball in bowling. Hell, if they had just given your character a headband in tennis that would have sufficed.

if you see that your opponent's front player might have a chance to hit it... start swinging and don't stop. It's very easy to beat them if you can return everything with your front man. I only use the backman to set up my frontman for the winner if it's taking too long.

140-170 is definately not enought to stay at Pro Level. To stay above 1000 you need to get a score of around 180 constantly.
If you're at 1000 right now, a score of 170 will make you drop. A score of 190 will gain you points...

What's this bonus you speak of for being a pro at bowling?
And yeah, it's all about the front man. I tend to bury their back guy in one corner then slam it to the other. One quick way to do it is bury them all the way to the right (You're right, not theirs) and when they hit back swing WAY early and you will hit it almost parallel to the left and they can't get it. Cheap as hell but works.

My friends still believe the higher your skill level the better your character will play despite me telling that is not the case several times.
