The 1st gen Pros are "good" ANC, but not a match for my over the ear Sonys or a set of Bose. Having worn them on a commute more than occasionally, I'm guessing you'll definitely have background noise, but it'll be "fine". Just won't be the dead silence you get from a pair of ANC full headphones.

Just got my 14 pro max. My god was a beautiful monolith. While my X is still running fine, the 14 pro is definitely faster, and the 120hz screen is noticeably smoother. Certainly a nice upgrade. I wonder what phones will be like in around 4-5 years when I upgrade again. Will I have a folding iphone then?

Folding iPhones are only going to be a thing if/when Samsung stops being a dick about screens and screen prices, someone else comes up with a viable design, or Apple bites the bullet and barges into that market segment too.
I'm sure there are folding screen iPhones in Apple R&D and I'm pretty sure when it happens it won't be like any other folding device and that people won't like it.
Death and taxes and people hating Apple choices that become standard.

Oh I’m also pretty sure they’re working on the technology. But it’s not going anywhere public until something in the small screen wholesale market changes.
If they can pull off the roll-out screens from Earth: Final Conflict when they do, then all the better.
Is there some sort of tolerance building most people have to do for ANC?
I get nauseous from using it for more than 15 minutes. Especially when I take one out before the other, I feel like my eyes and ears overload. It's so bizarre.

Can’t say I’ve experienced that myself but it is more or less literally cutting out a primary sense so… maybe try switching to transparency when you’re putting them in or taking them out, and go for the full cancellation once you’ve wearing them? Make the transition a bit less sudden.

I had that with the bose's I have at maximum cancellation, but winding it back to about halfway seems to be enough to cut out plenty of background noise without the really isolating/weird feeling.
yeah, it's something that definitely happens to some people. There's a thing with the frequencies that they use to cancel the noise out that doesn't jive with some people's ears.
Is there anything new and fancy with the charging cable that comes with the Series 8? Read something about faster charging. Just wondering if I should replace the one I have in the bedroom from my Series 5.

The USB-C based charger that was introduced with the series 7 charges the watched 30% faster, at least when the watch is closer to dead. Inthink the official verbiage is 0-50% in 30 minutes. If that charger is one where you're often putting the watch on it for 30 minutes and wanting as much charge as possible, then yes. If the primary use case is charging overnight then it really doesn't matter if the older charger is slower.
iPhone 14 Pro Max finally arrived. This thing is big and yeah that camera notch is large.
Beautiful though.

I got an early XMas gift of an IPad Air (5th gen)
It’s set up and everything but it’s a little different in use than the 2018 5th gen iPad it’s replacing
For one thing no home button but I figured that out
Anything I should know about this thing that may not be obvious
Edit: based on my unofficial benchmark of “how fast does Civ6 load” thing is insanely fast. Old IPad would take over a minute and this thing loads it in ~15 seconds

Yeah, it has an M1 in it. Same chip that powers the 1st generation MacBook Air and the 2021 iPad Pro. My iPad has never once felt slow.
It's a beast of a processor that is currently very underutilized on most iPad workflows.

The Continuity Camera is pretty great, except now it's defaulting to using my iPhone as my microphone every time I connect my MacBook to my thunderbolt dock and I need to change it back to using my actual microphone every single time.

What's the cheapest thing I can buy that will give me access to current macos? I really just want imessage on desktop and a web browser for email & etc. An older refurbished mac mini?
edit: didn't realize there was a macos thread, gonna cross post over there but keeping this one as that thread doesn't seem super active.

Yeah, either a new or used Mac Mini. I have the baseline M1 Mac Mini for when I don't want to or need to use my gaming PC. It's a great little machine.

I’d like to meet the apple engineer who decided that AirPods should switch from an active phone call on your phone to some sound effect on your laptop or iPad and tell that person they’re an idiot.

It's stopped for now, but I had a period where it was apparently very important to switch from the music I was listening to on my Mac to the iPhone so I could hear the lock sound.

Lol
I just turned off the auto switching and will do things manually. Losing audio during the few times I’m actually using my phone as a phone is too risky.
As I suspected

I’ve had an Apple Watch Ultra for about a month now and I really like it (after having a 2 and a 6). The trail loop is an exceptional strap as well.
That’s all. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

The dramatic improvement in battery life from the watch, and the extra button (which I set to be the flashlight) have made this my favorite out of all the watches.
It's a big watch, but not overly so, at least on a larger person.

If I hadn't just gotten a 7 I'd be all over the ultra. I look forward to seeing the improvements by the time the ultra 3 comes out.

There's some sort of 'suction'/'pressure' sensation that can happen, yeah; something about it, another page, some discussion on reddit.
