Disney will probably just reboot the franchise every 10 years, like Spiderman.
Although I do kind of see why Lucas sold it. He's old, he's retiring. He had to do something with it.

Providing Disney put in as much effort with this as they did with the Avengers I can only see this as being a good thing. Actually all of Marvel has been renewed with their presence, bar a few forgetable films. Bana-Hulk & Ironman 2 being the most notable.
Lucas took himself out of the game too long and when he got back the game had changed, but his playbook was still the same. I think a fresh set of eyes on the franchise could do wonders.
The visuals, audio, CG and acting were top notch, but that's where my praise stop. I feel the movie had flat characters and I wasn't crazy for the plot.
The beauty of the deadline is that its made me recognized how little of my fantastical world has been left unresolved or really gray in my mind. You'll just have to go for it with what you have, so dont sweat it too much.
I've been using the sticky notes chrome app to rearrange plot points and figure out this whole shit.
Yeah, I'm just relieved that I came up with this idea under the constraint of it being simple enough to execute that I could do it in one month. There isn't going to be any color.
I love worldbuilding, but I always get carried away and end up over-thinking everything. As if every little detail of culture in the world has to make real-world sense.

I thought (read: I overheard someone say once) that Marvel had some kind of "hands off" clause in their contract so Disney wouldn't have the chance to screw the films up?
Also, wasn't the last huge sci-fi blockbuster to come out of Disney John Carter of Mars, which as I understand it, flopped horribly? Even with one of Pixar's best and brightest at the helm?
I mean, a Disney Star Wars film is obviously going to make money just because of the name alone, but until some more details pop up, I really can't venture an opinion one way or another how good or not good it'll actually be.
Also everyone at work seems to be working at home tomorrow to avoid the traffic/train chaos anticipated for the Giants' World Series parade.
I'm sorry, but- baseball ,and parades. Two things that I thought nobody gave two shits about any more because they're generally incredibly dull compared to most other entertainment sources you could name, but a parade about baseball causing traffic jams on the expressways? Not just on the parade routes, but from people desperately clawing their way into the city just to see said parade??
I feel like I'm sucking down crazy juice, why is this happening??
I'm probably going to stay at home just so I don't have to deal with having my car tipped over and burned by a mob; and it's really sad that, while admittedly extremely unlikely, still has a non-zero chance of happening.

You forget that the Pixar guy was also given complete control over how the thing was marketed. He was the biggest John Carter fanboy ever, and thought John Carter of Mars was a household name.
If anyone was responsible for that thing being a colossal flop it was him.
Yeah, it is. Its also endless.

This.
It's been made painfully clear to me over the past few weeks how much detail I DON'T have. The benefit of NatCoWriMo for me has been the way I've been forced to actively think about the world I'm creating and make sure I have something handy to jot down details that come to mind. I think my story has changed more in the past 3 weeks than it has in the past year.

Absolutely agree with you there. I just think reactions like 'Mickey Mouse Star Wars cameos!' and 'R2D2 on ice', are stupid in the highest order. Disney don't spend 4 billion dollars in order to piss it away by making a quick turnaround by grinding out a Jar Jar Binks series of films. From what I understand, Kathleen Kennedy and the people at Lucas Film will still oversee the filming and editing, with Lucas employed as a consultant.
I'm not saying that it's definitely going to produce a great new trilogy, but the suggestion that it's doomed to failure is incredibly negative.

I'm actually really interested to see what will happen.
I thought John Carter was actually a good film. It was fun to watch and I was hoping it would be more popular so that I could see the other worlds and such from the books.
Not at all ! I think it sucked as a movie, the plot and dialogues are so cheesy, that Tarantino could have written it... only that the Avangers wasnt made in the absurd tone that Tarantino writes/directs.
It was like a long intro to a video game.
PS: It does serve the purpose of providing mindless action and shallow entretainment for a while.
Yes, with a quick verbal "boom." You take a man's peko, you deny him his dab, all that is left is to rise up and tear down the walls of Jericho with a ".....not!" -TexiKen
Yeah, that google doodle is the bestest. halloween
Also, I really enjoyed John Carter and thought it was a super underrated movie, so my hopes are high. Then again it's not very often my hopes aren't on the up side, no body likes the haterade.

If this buy out lets the original theatrical trilogy come out, remastered in 4k... I will be a happy lad. But I really couldn't care less about new Star Wars movies. They'll have to prove that they aren't just going to Jar Jar the series up again.
(Obviously Disney are better story tellers than Lucas... but I will fear the worst until being proven otherwise)
Jar Jar having his own daily show/s and becoming a huge success, a couple of years from now, you see jar jar binks merchindise on every kid, on every corner, advertised on every TV channel... you know its possible Napp, you know Jar jar is just waiting there... waiting for the moment to take over.

and I'm interested in how Disney handles the franchise.
If they get the right people to helm these films that they are contractually obligated to put out every 2-3 years, it could potentially be a really cool exploration of themes and characters we haven't gotten to see in any of the Star Wars films thus far. They could use that universe as a basic setting to tell stories that service the spirit of the originals, but aren't afraid to do their own thing in lieu of trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Or it could be all lightsabers and Skywalkers and references to the same goddamned characters that always seem to just show up everywhere something important is happening.
@nightdragon - I desperately miss Bob and Timmy's

Dessert pizza is a bizzare concept.....I don't think my brain could process it.
I can barely handle tandoori pizza, I like the taste, but part of my brain screams "This is an abomination!"

It is definitely over-rated though. The last 20 minutes were balls out awesome, but the rest of it was just okay-good.

Also fuck you Giants for beating the Reds and sweeping the Tigers!

I like the guy who played John Carter in Friday Night Lights as Tim Riggins, but hes not very good at doing anything else.
This.

I would watch it.
Don't worry; it's unwatchable regardless!
